5 non-placers
5 champions
I’ve taken the term “boom or bust” to the next level.

Wow...waited for those last-minute injury reports just before the buzzer. Nice.

Uhhh… do I get Goshen or Penn?

The first two replies being a flat “no” and “yes” is pretty much the epitome of this debate ever since the board has existed.

Feels a bit sacrilegious to not say teammate/friend Nick Crume (Q, 3, 3, 1), and while I predict he’d win the head to head more often than he’d lose, I have to choose Hunter Watts (6, 2, 1, 3) since it says “most accomplished.” Only Jimmie with a placement all four years and only to make it under the lights twice.

I think everyone shared the same level of shock/also not shocked feeling when Leavell pinned Shep.
Felt so reminiscent of Joe Lee/Tommy Cash. Stud freshman beats former 3rd and 2nd place senior in the semi-finals, then takes an early lead on former state champion senior in the finals. Starts to look like he’s going to cruise to his first state championship, and then BAM on his back a few seconds later.
Was admittedly pulling for Shepherd, not because I have a problem with Kyrel, but because of the possibility of looking back on this tournament in the future and seeing four different 4x state champions competing at one state finals. But congratulations to Kyrel. He showed up all weekend, and had a career 99.99% of high school wrestlers wish they could have had

I almost took a slice off because of the price as well. Ford Center has the second best hot dog of the season behind Mooresville.
It was a solid dog. $5 instead of $7, and it would have gotten an extra slice for sure.

Well?? How many slices?
I have it 6/8, but I accounted for price and size as well. Taste alone was probably 7 slices.

I say Leech counts as half a champ for East Chicago seeing as he is coached by one of ours.
Then we’re taking half a champ each for Kresja and Cressell. 3.5 it is!

Got to imagine Aidan Kincaide will be in the mix after being a semi finalist at a high weight for a freshman.
-
All five champs from 144-175 have some kind of ties to the Wayne. Obviously the three champs in Doster, Betz, and Leech, but also Kresja who started his high school career at Delta, and Cressell whose brother goes to Wabash and has Wabash listed on his own track profile.

Feel free to suite up and ref. I’m sure everyone would agree with every call you make.
And also, if you ever get a poorly-cooked meal, put on your chef apron and hat and save the restaurant. Not happy with your haircut? Grab some shears and take over for the stylist. You think a movie was awfully-written? Well, I guess that’s your fault for not going to film school and becoming a better writer. If you’re not a professional, always remember to just keep your mouth shut and not have any controversial thoughts.

In all fairness to DawgPoundRed, there are actually six Bulldogs in the finals. So he was close.

Overachieving is a very relative term. What might be considered overachieving to one spectator could be a letdown for the actual wrestler.
One example: I(very wrongly) had Elias Cressell ranked #8 in the semi-state. I’m sure all of Wabash county thought that was ridiculous, but for most of the state who didn’t get to watch him this year, it probably looks like he’s having the tournament of his life. To him, I would bet he was still distraught losing in the semis despite his ranking being much lower than his final placement.

You could argue the over-abundance of middle weights in 150, 157, and 165 seem pointless, but at the collegiate level, the weights are almost exactly the same (149 instead of 150). However, in contrast, there is a proper weight for wrestlers in the 180-pound range in 184.
Thank you, I’ve been so confused at this part ever since they made the switch over. It’s so inconsistent for the college weight classes. They added an extra middle-weight to represent the college 149, 157, and 165, but also combined 182 and 195 into 190 when there is a 184 and 197 in college. I don’t really understand that last part.

OTT Last Chance Qualifier
in College and International Wrestling
Posted
I’m going to go out on a limb and say TC7 has some good insight, so I’ll take his word for it.
Christian wrestled incredible over the weekend. Just keeps adding to an amazing resume before his first college season. I think he’ll be an immediate contender at 197 next season, and hopefully makes some noise at the OTT.
