I am not really too focused on the team championships; I am more focused on the implication for future So far here is what I have Greco Bad News Youssefi lost Forfeit to Israel, missed a great opportunity to test out a young wrestler Good news Emergence of Sohrabai as a potential star Dadmarz and Mohammadi won gold FS Bad News Yazdani losing in the finals Nokhodi getting screwed by the draw and the infamous IRI policy We did not find our 57 Kg future Good news Azarpara did not disappoint TBD Massoumi looks great so far Firouzpour brothers on track for gold I still like the best case, but unlikely scenario. 4 golds

really disappointed about Yazdani Junior but I just think he wasn't mentally ready for this tournament. but still a loss is a loss and he almost lost his SF too. MAYBE he is not as good as what we thought team title looks a bit unlikely now , but in age-level competitions I care more about individual performances. Azarpira did better than his juniors performance but still I'm expecting more from him. sometimes you can feel he just doesn't know what do to on the mat. I hope MS Firouzpour wins the gold tomorrow but I gave up on him long time ago. looking forward to see two other guys in the final. to me they are the most talented wrestlers in this team. a world U23 gold will help them in their path

  5. I would be honestly interested in a poll of every person that cares about wrestling, that isn’t associated with the schools you just named, if they really care about naming one of those schools a team state champ. Most people want the school their associated with and their home grown wrestlers to do well. Yeah I like a great dual with great wrestling but I also can watch that all off-season at any of the big dual tournaments that stack the teams with studs. To each their own.

OMG! Just go wrestle! Quit whining if a kid goes to a public or private school. You guys should know by now it doesn't matter what school you go to it matters how much off season work you're doing. 4 momths in a HS room isn't going to make a state champ wrestler or team. Look at the top tier guys and schools they are not just wrestling in season. I cannot believe we have people complaining from a 1200 person School that a little 500 person School is beating them. Tell your kids to get to work you are not going to get there by just wrestling in season. And if they're better than you then so be it if someone is better than us we don't complain that they should be in a different class we are going all the way to the top to find the best competition we can find. What else do you want from a 500 kid school? I thought wrestlers didn't make excuses!

Oh it's something well known, in his personality. We go to a restaurant and he can't even read half a page of a menu without getting bored and singing a song or something lol. He's still got some maturing to do. He's a kid at heart.

It's the concentration thing that is an issue for sure 100%. Defense is fine when he focuses.

I expected Baby Yaz to get gold. On another day he may have, but given everything that has gone on in the last month or so (injuries, the draw in Belgrade, a lot of the stresses and disruptions in training behind the scenes, and the situation in Iran) coming in second at the U23s that he wasn't meant to compete at is fine. And a fine consolation for him personally. The focus will be next year, Olympic Qualifier and everyone having a view at Paris. I am very intrigued who will get the 74kg spot. Nokhodi with proper weight management can definitely make 74. I would like to see what he is like at 74. Baby Yaz too if he fills out to that weight. And Emami is looking solid, but just not quite there to convincingly say he can medal for sure in Paris, even without Russia.

I watched the match again Here is my take His opponent was pretty good The match was a high-quality match, none of the points awarded were push outs or warning points Yazdani did show some good offense and his two take downs were pretty impressive Yazdani seems to have concentration lapses, were he gets caught off guard He was completely unprepared for the 4-point double leg take down. My impression is that the Georgian coaches may have coached their wrestler to go with that at the start of the half Yazdani did not gas and seems to be fighting till the end I would say he needs to work on his defense and on his concentration

  11. Everyone basically making my argument for me. It's time the IHSAA allows this to be an all in tournament like football, basketball, and etc AND it doesn't count towards the regular season dual tournament points for scheduling. Should have 2T meaning 2 state sactioned tournaments. The first being the single class individual tournament and the other the classed team dual tournament. I can see making a rule that a team has to have 8 weights filled to be able to compete.

Surely Nokhodi can't make 74. He's lean enough for 79 as is. I think MS Firouzpour should be the third guy to consider.

Of the three contenders for 74, (Yazdani, Emami and maybe Nokhodi), these performances place Yazdani the lowest in my opinion and Nokhodi and Emami around the same level.

I like Yazdani and love his high energy style. However, if he is not the best guy at the U-23 70 Kg, he needs to improve a lot before we can talk about him as a contender at the 74 Kg Senior level

In my opinion, a Senior World champion losing in the opening round, is the biggest surprise of the tournament. Nothing taken away from the shock of the other matches you guys are talking about

All 3 semi finals won - big win for AH to tech the current European champ. I didn't see Masoumi's match - looks like it was close? His final with the massive Georgian should be interesting. We must be in a better position for the team title now as Iran beat Georgia at 74kg and the Georgian at 92kg lost his SF. Gholami also pulled back into repechage at 86kg while the Georgian lost his SF

Carr has a tendency to kind if close off when gents make him get tough. Gantt, a gatekeeper at 74/79 KG who tends to make it a teat of grit and attrition showed this at the 2020(1) Olympic Trials, just like the Georgian did today. He is fast, slick, and very good... he lacks a certain element of toughess when it comes down to it, though.

Both Firouzpours are in the SF along with Masoumi. Masoumi will wrestle Yergali, AH Firouzpour will wrestle Akturk and MS Firouzpour will wrestle the Georgian who defeated Carr (USA). Habibzadeh and Gholami are both out. From yesterday, the 65kg guy won his repechage matches and will wrestle Ukraine for Bronze while Amir Yazdani and Azarpira will both wrestle for Gold later today. I'm not sure how the team title is looking but I would guess with a maximum of 6 medals we are close but not running away with it?

Big Firouzpour beats France (Russia) 11-1 and makes the QF, against Latvia or Canada Akturk could be an interesting match-up in the semis for Firouzpour, although I think Firouzpour should win that

  27. Man I really don't like that outcome... if it's bad enough to strip a champion of a title then it should be enough to make changes and award a new champion. Its not like we are talking about this decades after it happened. Should be an easy change. I agree with the article tho, ncaa should be a little more transparent in what went down.

Georgia really came to play for U23s. Their Greco was good and their freestyle team has been even better. They have 4 medal matches from yesterday and have been undefeated so far today.
