Did he suffer a concussion if so it will be hard to come back and practice like he needs to this week. 4 yrs ago people said WHAT concussions in wrestling no-way look now they are happining to the best week end and out. My son had 4 his freshman yr and another 3-5 his soph. it was brutal

trying to get him back to top shape. I wouldn't want this for any wrestler so hope he heels ok.

He has to go to a specialist today to find out his fate. In my experiences with this situation, I have found that most "Specialists" have you sit out a minimum of two weeks. Most are made to sit out 3 weeks. He also needs to have at least two practices in before he can compete, so that would mean that he has to be cleared by Wednesdays practice in order to wrestle on Friday. This will probably not happen due to the fact that Hartford was unconscious at Semi state. He had no clue where he was when they raised his hand. So in my opinion I would say that Black has a 90% chance being the fill in alternate for state. It was unfortunate that Hartford was injured, and it was unfortunate the Gaige will not be able to compete. The state tourney will be a little bit lighter in the pants at 120 now. I just hope that if Black is allowed to participate in the state tourney that he represents himself to his best ability.

Very well written my only thing is it's Hartman. Not Hartford. Just a heads up good luck to both brenden wrestled so well in the ticket rd. he wrested like a state placer. Jacob was injured in a match but has had a very good season overall both should represent the merrillville semi state very well

No.

I think regardless he should show up and walk in the parade of champs, then Inj default out if he can't compete.

if he does this, then black can't take his spot.......i myself would rather give someone else a shot versus injury defaulting just to be there......

you meaning, if you were in his spot?

Being a state qualifer and being a part of the state festivities is pretty special and nothing is guranteed. People might be angry but he's earned his right to be a part of that.

Hartman is a junior with only one more chance, Black is a freshman w/ 3 more opportunities.

Can't we have the best of both worlds??? Let Hartman appear as a state qualifier and walk in the parade of champions. AND let Black do the same and compete in that spot. This solution harms no one and everyone involved gets something positive.

absolutely would have nothing to do if it were "me/my kid" in his spot......i just think that would be the right thing to do - give someone else a shot if you can't compete......and i totally agree with thornton......that's a perfect solution......but if it were me my kid, i would want him to give the spot to someone else versus injury default.......i see your point of view that this is a special thing and agree with that aspect of it but there is nothing to gain by injury defaulting........he still is a state qualifier no matter what......he earned that......

so the next question is.......is that something the ihsaa allows?.......do they have that provision?......it sure makes sense and has zero negatives.....

I was not there so I don't know what exactly happened.  But I would bet the 4 coaches and wresters

could say who they believe deserves to move on.  I am not saying for sure that it is Tores but he does seem

to be the most qualified.

Hartman will still be able to walk In the parade... For example when Cody Phillips didn't wrestle at state and an alternate stepped in, he still walked in the parade.

was cody phillips given permission... I bet it was the fact that uc had qualifiers and he got in. Does SBR have other state q's?
