I am following with the crowdedness. Appreciate the additional context.

Glad to see that the 2 wild card vote-ins will be in December vs May.

We are happy to host the first 5 schools out of the vote-in for a super dual. When the final placements come out I will reach out the numbers 11-15 to try and find a date in early December.

Hosting our own Wildcard weekend in Indy.

Was trying to explain to an out of state coworker how our state series works and was trying to find a map that showed how the state was divided up. Couldn't find one, was bored at work so I made a crude map that shows how the state schools are broken down into regionals by color. The school lists were pulled from the indiana mat bracket page. Thought it was neat. Regionals MAp.pdf

Fort Wayne Snider should have been invited to 3A state. I don't know who makes those decisions ,but next year I'm guessing; you won't be able to keep us out.   Matter of fact I'll make a prediction we'll be seeded #1.

It’s a tough job to seed and I don’t think there is any intent to “shaft” any team. While pathways to the top might be enhanced by seeding, results are the products of performance. Yesterday teams and individuals proved that statement. The “vote in” process came up big yesterday, looking at Greenfield Central and the late addition of Columbus East and if I may offer my “Humble” opinion, South Adams in 1A. SA was a number 12 vote in and finished fifth with 7 Freshmen in the lineup and only 2 seniors.

Back to the original topic, I believe Tell City placing 3rd at the Mater Dei Holiday Classic, behind Union County and Mater Dei, is an impressive accomplishment, considering the size of our school to many others on the list. We are looking forward to 1A Team State this weekend!

Thank you, just working hard trying to fulfill our potential. As far as the 96 team, no not really, only because I was 6 years old. I know we've had some very good squads in the 80's and 90's that Coach Ed Hamant would talk about a lot.  2012 team that had 4 state qualifiers and won the HHC over very good New Pal and Yorktown teams, would be my pick for best ever.  Hopefully the 2022-23 group will be in the conversation after next weekend.

Ed Hamant loved everything about the team state tournament. The longtime Greenfield-Central assistant coach never got to see one of his team’s compete in team state. He tragically passed away last year.

Hamant coached the Cougars for 40 years. During that time Greenfield never made it to team state. This year the Cougars were the vote-in team for class 3A.

Heights has FF 195 all year unless Tilton was there. Everyone has JV kids funneling in and out of the line up. You show up and compete with the kids you have.

    Grow up.

This was a great event with great teams that put their toes on the line and got after it on the mat. A great warm up for team state!

Lots of 70's-80's light white rock to get it going.  What do the kids like to hear?

They go to those programs to win titles. I come from those programs. My success was a result of those programs. I joined my school’s program to win a team title and I got two rings out of it. Yes, we had that shared mentality, but I guarantee you Adams Central, Bellmont, Churubusco, and Prairie Heights all had the same mentality. We just knew our chances were better than theirs. We had a bigger pool of kids to draw from, all of whom could focus on wrestling with plenty of opportunities available in-house and outside at our immediate disposal, but I bet you can’t say the same for a lot of those 1A/2A kids which is an issue. Plenty of large school coaches are guilty of saying at tournaments, “Oh, he goes to ____. They don’t wrestle anybody.” Which is, in fact, wrong. They do wrestle somebody. We just incorrectly think of them as nothing because they aren’t in the spotlight with us and that is not right or fair to those kids from those teams who I know work hard the same way we do.

The most well-known case I can think of is 2013 State Champion Deondre Wilson from Warren Central.

It was only his 3rd year of the sport when he achieved his undefeated season and championship.  Amazing story!

Saw a comment in the thread discussing the final Team State votes that mentioned how the Coaches’ Association re-classed the Team State Duals to four classes because they wanted more representation from the small schools and how the large schools were over-represented. So, if it is okay from a team standpoint, why does everyone cry when it’s mentioned from an individual standpoint? Isn’t that what we want?

It’s an attempt to grow the sport at a smaller level. Large school competition will always be the same; Perry and Warren will always wrestle, Crown Point and Brownsburg will always wrestle, Cathedral and EMD will always wrestle, and Penn and Portage will always wrestle. None of that changes. However, with new opportunity, the little guy from Benton Central now gets a chance to compete for a state championship more often, and NO, it does not diminish the value in being a champion in any way. Go tell an Illinois kid his 1A title means nothing to the 3A title, and see how he responds when he takes on one of our kids, because all classes in Illinois are still better than our one.

Having a single class and telling kids to simply “work harder” will not make this sport grow or make our overall quality better. In fact, it will only drive them further from the sport. The only ways for this sport to grow are through added resources and opportunity. And yes, while everything in our state is equal in terms of opportunity, it is NOT equitable. Some people just need more, and that is OKAY. If three of us are standing on a milk crate looking over a fence, and only two of us can see, why is it not okay to give that one person who can’t see a little extra help so they can enjoy the view too?
