gogoplata89 reacted to Wrestling Scholar in IHSAA Wrestling Grievances – The 12 Days of IHSAA Christmas
Im sorry, but thats a weak strawman "whataboutism argument. Ohtani is a valuable baseball player, and is getting paid his fair market value. Thats as fair as anything gets. You too are getting paid your fair market value. Right???. I think youre misiing the point. The ultimate goal is not to nake a fair system, but to make a system thats best for wrestlers and wrestling fans.

Meh… I have had quite a few state qualifiers that were not top 4 qualify. I have had many more wrestlers I have felt were top 4 not make it. This isn’t rocket science. Our setup is flat out flawed. End of story.

gogoplata89 got a reaction from Holden in 3A Team State Voting... solution!
Last year in 3A the vote in teams finished 2nd and 3rd overall. There are 6 teams on the outside looking in that could potentially win this tournament. Make it 12 and let’s see what happens.

*2nd and 3rd
And the second place team was a super late one due to New Haven dropping out.
3A has the depth that making it 12 teams total for the rest of time is a good thing. One or two kids can drastically affect a team's outlook on the year and predicting them based off of last year is a daunting task.
The 7th-10th place teams in the spring standings were 7 points from an automatic qualification.
Make it 12 for here on out as this class has proven to be very deep with competitive teams.

On the second day of Christmas, IHSAA gave to me, no wrestle backs
Indiana is one of the only states that doesn’t use double elimination format with full wrestlebacks in its state tournament. We have a total of 5 single elimination rounds in our state tournament series. We are a state, possibly the only state, that eliminates half of its state qualifiers in a single match. Here’s a comparison to other states:

Part of wrestling is wrestlebacks. Wrestlebacks allow a wrestler to deal with the adversity and bounce back from losing a match. Colleges scouts want to see how wrestlers handle failure. Also, if they are scouting at state, they want to see their prospects wrestle more than one match.
ISWA tournaments use wrestlebacks. NCAA tournaments use wrestlebacks. Other states use wrestlebacks. Not having wrestlebacks is changing a fundamental part of the sport. It’s like not allowing the forward pass in football (go back to 1905), not allowing 3 point shot in basketball (go back to 1966), not allowing a designated hitter in baseball (go back to 1972).
When you have among the lowest success rates in the country, it makes using wrestlebacks even more important.
Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association has been asking for wrestlebacks (especially at semi-state). This request is consistently denied by IHSAA assistant commissioner Robert Faulkens. Is that the right decision?
If you agree Indiana should have wrestlebacks, click “Like”.

Veazy being at Snider wasn’t going to change that. You sound just as zesty now. I don’t think CP needs Veazy. And that Semi-State may be deep but CP is on top until further notice. If you’ve been on the forum I stated why Veazy may leave months ago. Not rumors about a kid you don’t know to get a chuckle from some know nothings. From now on you are Triple Z. Zealous for a laugh. Zesty as ever. Zero points for originality once again.

Vinny Corsaro should probably be in that conversation, along with Tristen Tonte.

First of all, thanks to all athletes that have worked their tails off this season to give us coaches, parents and fans yet another stellar wrestling.
While we see see some of our finest move on to next journey, Indiana wrestling is in great shape with this young group of wrestlers we have now and those coming in.
Most outstanding for me
Tylin Thrine
Undefeated freshman Champ who on his path took out our #1 and a nationally ranked senior in route to a title.
Close 2nd was Hockaday
Defeated 2x returning champ en route to his very own 2nd title.

You all may enjoy this. Mr Whitehead reads a poem at the 1987 State Finals, A Wrestler's Mom. It starts at 2:38 in this video. Feel free to watch Jay County's back to back State Champs including the last wrestler to win state at 98 lbs.

gogoplata89 reacted to Jcjcjc in Kevin Whitehead's Final State Championship
If you are a wrestling fan that doesn't go to other IHSAA sports' championships, then you don't know how lucky we are. Every year I went to the gymnastics state finals, I would be so mad at how unprofessional the announcer was--mispronouncing names, giving NCAA basketball updates over the PA, making jokes about names being weird, and countless other things I've made myself forget.
I asked Whitehead to "announce" a video of my mom's team receiving their state championship trophey, and he sent me back two versions of him belting out the jams. What a great announcer, and what a great man for making the moment special.
I'll include the video with Whitehead's audio, because my mom and sister make me really proud, and also to show that Whitehead is a complete badass who rages to make things great for people. His part starts at 4:15 in case the link doesn't take you there.

gogoplata89 reacted to Holden in State qualifiers by Team State Teams
First, I want say that I love reading the stats you all break down. They are fun and interesting to see. However, I want to add a stat that I find interesting also. While Greenfield had no state qualifiers this year, we won Connersville for the first time ever, placed 3rd at team state (we had never been) and won the HHC for the third straight year (first time in school history). The HHC includes very tough teams such as New Pal (2 qualifiers), New Castle (3), Mt Vernon (3), Delta (4), Yorktown (1) and Pendleton (1). I'm not sure many teams have had that kind of success with no state qualifiers. And, while I am very disappointed that we didn't have a state qualifier, I am extremely proud of my team. They are just that, a team. No way we do the things we did this year without these kids wrestling for each other. I am a proud coach!

Andrew Davison is the biggest one I can think of. Can't imagine there's too many nationally ranked guys losing on Friday night.
