    Also the trainers asked me if I was ok, and I replied that it wasn’t my head, I just landed on my neck weird. I never even had the thought of taking the match from him like that. I have too much respect for him and his father to ever do that.

    There is a whole thread in the Youth Forum dedicated to up and coming talent.  It also list projected schools and weights.

    We don't need to have replay review to get calls correct on the mat. what we need is consistency across the whole state on situations that each official may come across during the season and be better prepare to make those calls with the second officials support or opinion. The disconnect that I have seen the last couple of years is the inexperience of some officials that do not get to see enough of those crazy situations often, and not preparing or anticipating those situations... which could be illegal cutbacks, cut blocks, hands to the face, hip to hip early take downs, take downs not beyond reaction time. I believe we could truly improve the sport of wrestling by preparing thru having monthly calls statewide and discuss situations, topics, and how to call them consistent across the state.

    Those are my two sense. We have a tremendous amount of good officials across the state but I believe we could always improve. And it all starts with us.

    Not saying you are right or wrong with the call, but the announcers are likely not your best source of verification.  A none bias announcer usually are looking for the most exciting outcome on a last second call.  So a close flurry/score at the end will almost always have the announcer pulling for the score, because it’s the more exciting outcome.

    So I just looked over my school ratings. I had 28 schools give a rating. Out of those 28 schools, there were only 9 schools that I actually had any involvement with officiating either varsity or JV this season.

    If you don't know the official, then you shouldn't be giving them a rating.

    Coaching at Indy nationals today and noticed SQ Brac Hooper from Carmel was wrestling and won Indy nationals after wrestling Friday night. Just thought it was awesome to see a kid going right back to work after his season was cut shorter than I’m sure he hoped. I would bet there were some others I just recognized him from one of our kids wrestling him frequently in the offseason. Kid is tough as nails and I respect him a lot for competing just after state.

    I went back and read the post I was referring to. I see that this official was speaking of his own system.

    Thanks for the detailed response. Makes sense.

    Of course, there is bias here on my part but I don’t think Fielden is scooting outta that.

    I didn’t see the match, so I can’t comment on the specifics of the situation, but I can point you to the rule book to clarify your confusion about how the referee and assistant referee can impact a changed call.

    Rule 3-2 explains the role of the assistant in helping to “minimize human error in matters of rule application and judgment.”

    3-2-2:

    The assistant referee will be granted the same mobility as the referee and will complement and assist the referee in making calls. The referee will be in complete control of the match.

    3-2-2 f and e

    f. When necessary, the referee and assistant shall meet briefly on the edge of the mat away from the wrestlers and coaches, away from the wrestlers and coaches, away from the scorer’s table to discuss the point of disagreement;

    e. The assistant may support, disagree or have no opinion relative to a decision. The referee shall prevail in the event of disagreement;

    So, based on the rules, it’s always the referee’s call on whether or not to make a change. The assistant doesn’t have the ability to change a call. Their opinion may influence the referee to change the call, but that falls on the referee.

    Normally you see a change if the referee knows they may have been out of position, or in a situation like what you described, may not have had a clear idea when in the process of the move time expired. If it was a bang-bang call, the ref may have been iffy on the timing (maybe not 100% confident in his own call to begin with) and his assistant might have had a better view of the clock. Obviously just speculating as to why the change was determined.

    Not sure about the out of bounds, but a crotch lift doesn’t necessarily prevent your opponent from scoring a take down.

    I'm shocked how many people are tweeting things about the referee's "mistake," suggesting you can't be in control and lose by pin. Control is needed for near fall, not a pin. It's a clear rule that is too often misunderstood by experienced coaches and wrestlers.

    Unless it’s been revised then there can be an alternate. That alternate would then be the last person defeated by the eventual champ who also didn’t advance. In this case, it would be Cash.

    Our mats were really old and they could not be re-conditioned so my AD replaced them all.  2 full mats plus an extra section.  The goal is to never pick these up.  We left the old sections below to stop the mats from sticking to the floor.
    My AD is super supportive and my principal use to be the head coach! 😀

    So, to put some clarity on this situation, after speaking with the official involved. There was a scoring error. The offensive wrestler had only earned a 2-point nearfall, which, did not earn the technical fall; therefore, wrestling was allowed to continue. The scorekeeper erroneously scored it as a 3-point nearfall which created the confusion. This,  in fact, was a computation error, however, once it was brought to the tournament director's attention a conference with the official ensued and it was confirmed that the technical fall was never earned, thus, the reversal and subsequent fall were legitimate. It is unclear if the score was ever corrected in Trackwrestling, however, the correct result was entered. This may explain why the coach did not address the situation, immediately, it sounds like they may have been well aware of the correct score in real time.

    Tournament match scoring errors:
    A recordable error must be corrected prior to the offended wrestler leaving the mat area if additional wrestling is necessary (Mat Area: Rule 2-1-5: the wrestling mat plus 10 feet). Otherwise, when additional wrestling is NOT necessary, the offended wrestler or coach must remain in the mat area.
    A computational error must be corrected prior to the next match in which either wrestler competes. Again, if additional wrestling is necessary, it must be corrected prior to the offended wrestler leaving the mat area.
    I would consider this to be a computational error as the adding up of points was not correctly determined during the action.  Therefore, this could have been corrected if determined prior to either wrestler wrestling their next match since the error would not have required re-wrestling.
    Now maybe the referee, scorer and coaches could not determine that a computation error occurred (they couldnt specifically remember the score and situation) however if they could then it could have been corrected.
