When are seeds/pools drawn for team state?  Will they pretty much go by current rankings or is there a chance for movement?

Also, we all get it that clubs, camps, and regional tournaments are the way to become a great wrestler. We are not lacking great wrestlers in Indiana. We are lacking average wrestlers. Average wrestlers don’t wrestle in college. They don’t participate in IHPO. They don’t rank nationally. What they do is fuel the machine that keeps our sport relevant. There is plenty for the most dedicated. That should absolutely be maintained or expanded. Now it is time to shift focus to the seasonal wrestlers. How to we hook them? How do we keep them? They are the ones that keep the sport from becoming some niche club thing.

I have a young man who cannot cut his hair or shave due to religious and ethnic standards.  We spoke with Robert Faulkens and he said there are "several ways for the athlete to cover their facial hair."  He didn't offer any suggestions.  Anyone have any idea, besides a facemask, that an athlete can cover their facial hair?

I was told by email from the IHSAA yesterday that until we hear it from Faulkens, there is no realignment taking place this year or in the future.

Indy is saturated and at the same time those schools/kids have access to CIA, Red Cobra, Contenders and a significant number of schools within 30-40 minutes of each other to get training just about any day they want.  Been coaching 25 years and I never heard much about Indy being saturated until all of these Academies started and, with that, a tremendous increase in great wrestling.  Great problem to have in your area for sure.  Those places have a done a great job and this is not a knock on them.  Now Indy is hammering each other and now it's saturated and everything needs restructuring.  Again, not a reasonable explanation to restructure IMO.

I would agree here...geography, number of schools in a sectional/regional.  For instance you have 12 and 10 schools in the Twin Lakes and Laf. Sectionals, so 22 in the Logan Regional.  Then you have 9 at the plymouth sectional and 8 at the Mishawaka Sectional, so 17 at the Penn Regional.  Then 7 at Elkhart and 9 at Westview for 16 teams at the Goshen Regional.  Those are discussions worth having and restructuring.  And I know there are sectionals/regionals like that all over the state.  As schools consolidate or close or add programs, then I think you talk restructuring.

Indy schools are reaping the benefits of having a lot of resources, and rightfully so, but now it seems like you are saying that it's not fair because you are beating each other up.  I don't think that calls for a restructure.

    Coach B...no worries!

I think it's funny that it keeps being said that Ft. Wayne needs to be strengthened or balanced.  People don't care about making Ft. Wayne stronger.  Indy schools are hammering each other in January and February and they want to avoid each other until state.  There is a rumor that there is a movement in Indy, not sure if it's coaches or AD's or both, for this "restructuring" because some of their better kids are losing early.

Restructure because it fits geography, time, etc.  You don't restructure because you don't like the outcome you're getting.  Us small schools have been told to work harder if we want to be like the big dogs.  So, if the rumor is true, then I would say you just need to work harder.

Very impressed with this tournament.  We took 9 down.  2 girls and 7 guys.  Came out with 5 placers.  This tournament was tough.  Every match was a battle.

So 40% of schools had 72% of the qualifiers and 60% of the schools had 28%.  Numbers don't lie.

    But it doesn't...to quote Pug:

"After looking back at my numbers, 39 (of 64 schools) 5A and 6A schools account for 112 qualifiers. That's 50% of the field. Another 50 kids qualified from 4A schools. So, if my math is correct, 162 of the 224 qualifiers came from 4A schools or bigger....that leaves 62 qualifiers from 3A schools and smaller..."

I don't think small schools should get 33% of the qualifiers.  All I'm saying is the numbers do not support your statement that there is an equal chance.

Now add 4A Football Schools and see what happens.  If anyone truly believes this statement, "Every year the numbers statically show that there is no advantage to an individual in terms of making semi-state or state.", is true, then it's not possible to have a meaningful conversation.

This would not be the first time that the IHSAA has changed the interpretation/application of a rule.  If this rule has always been in place then I know of numerous times when it has been violated...most of you do to.  How many times has someone in wrestling applied for a waiver?

If you haven't seen the latest from Mr. Faulkens, it sounds like they aren't even allowing all 224 wrestlers in the building at the same time.  If that's the case, don't expect to have spectators.

What is stated above is not correct.  I spoke with Coach Myers and Pat Culp yesterday...they are currently not allowing spectators at the North Regional.  Now...that could have changed since last night.  Could someone please verify?
