I am tired of the hypocrisy

I am tired of the hypocrisy.  Recently a very talented wrestler was declared ineligible to participate in the state wrestling tournament.  This did not only deny a precious year to a high school kid, but also all of Indiana eager to see one of the nations finest improving his craft for all of Indiana’s enjoyment.   The reason for this travesty was due to Penn finding a loophole in the Indiana by-laws and exploiting it.  Why?  No one knows for sure, but what is for sure is a great ambassador for the sport we love will not be showcased on Indiana’s grandest stage.   So why is this hypocrisy?   Penn has 4 wrestlers from out of state competing for them.  A wrestler from Texas, Michigan, Illinois, and South Carolina all of a sudden transferred to Penn this year.  Yet there has been no investigation, despite overwhelming evidence of recruiting.  The reason for this is simple, most adults realize these kids only have a limited time in school and if they want to leave to a different school, they let them because it is in the best interest for the kid.  This happens often in northern Indiana, I am sure  also throughout the state and all over the country.  In fact, many, many, wrestlers from various programs in northern Indiana have transferred to join Penn. Penn accepts them wholeheartedly.  No one fought the transfer because why punish the kid.  However, when Penn loses a kid the first thing they do is block the kid.  Blatant Hypocrisy.

It’s a legitimate concern for a school (any school) to recruit and displace a student that has come up through the area and program. Maybe a little leeway with the COVID restrictions in other states. I don’t know what you are referring to specifically, but if a school is accepting transfers and also calling out another school, then that is an issue. Not sure if that is what you were claiming

Heck with that RTC in town I'd expect this to happen more often.  Maybe they just don't want the extra competition in conference now that Mishawaka is gone.

I don’t know the whole situation, but if having an RTC in town was all it took, don’t you think there’d be more RTCS in Northern Indiana?

Again, I have no dog in the fight, but that argument simply doesn’t work.

It is kind of crazy, im pretty sure penn got 2/3 out of state transfers in this year, but when a kid wants to leave there and go elsewhere there is an issue? something doesn’t make sense in this whole situation on penn’s part. i guess its okay to recruit until one of your kids leave & then you have to ruin his season... i have no idea how blocking a kid from wrestling can make them feel good in any type of way.

Welcome to the several schools.  A winning at all cost approach to boost coaching egos.

He certainly didn't transfer for a better opportunity because he'd wrestle anywhere.  I don't know why he transferred but his personal coach runs a RTC in an old radio shack ten minutes from his new school.  Whereas it was a 40 minute drive from his old school.

So it sounds like the kid moved to the new district.  If a family moves it seems hard to justify the kid not being able to compete.

I should also mention that 9 years ago a student transferred from this same school to Penn and did not have his transfer blocked

No one seemed to care about the kids that got "Put aside" in 08,09,10 when a local school received at least 6 very high level transfers .Were talking about multiple state champs and placers. I just wonder how many Sectional points these wrestlers scored in their 1st and second year move in ? Let the popcorn eating continue

This is why the IHSAA needs to award multiple state champions by class. You can still have your overall top 2, but recognize those smaller schools scoring decent points at the state finals. They don't have the luxury to play this game of accepting or losing transfers like the big boys. It's really ruining the single class aspect of the sport.

I can list hella schools that actively “recruit”. The IHSAA is a joke when it comes to enforcing what rules and expectations they set. Unfortunately it all falls on the AD. The biggest lesson wrestling has taught me is integrity, my wish is for everyone who loves and enjoys this sport can also learn the same thing.

Someone went to a lot of trouble preventing arguably the states best wrestler the opportunity to compete. Sounded like the kid was just looking for a better situation, with a coach that had more interest in helping him than following around a girl that graduated years ago and living off her success.

Penn hosted Regionals last year and the head coach was MIA pursuing the interest stated above 🙄
