I don't know that I have ever seen a sporting event where the combatants invited the crowd into the game, the whole stadium bit, and the result transcended a simple wrestlng match.

For parents with seniors advancing tonight or falling short of their goals there is one message that needs to be said...and that is "we are proud of you". These kids put their heart and soul into what they do and it's easy as a parent to lose sight of this sometimes. Be a fan and their biggest supporter and that's all we can do. It's a sport. It's a freaking blast and it will eventually come to an end...win or lose. To all that advanced and kept their goals alive all the best and bring home the prize but let's not lose sight of the journey to State. They are all winners.

Just a quick update. Just got an email from my Semi-state contact asking us to reserve the date for next year on our calendar. Looks like, at least for now, the Semi-state WILL be back in Evansville next year. 

Mater Dei wants to be runners up to Mater Dei year after year?  lol jk

I don't know how you can leave Nick Lee off this list. He will more than likely end his high school career with (2) losses. One as a freshman to the number one ranked senior in he he nation at the time. IMO every one mentioned would have lost that matchup as a freshman as well. The second one as a junior to the number one ranked wrestler in the nation again. I think you are kidding yourself if you watched that match and don't think Red and Lee aren't even. The difference is that Lee is only a junior and will only get better next year. Assuming only two career losses, both as underclass man to the number one ranked kids in the nation.

I mentioned this also about the pro-Mater Dei fans.
 
The Lee brothers just might convert everyone.

I've been around this sport for a long time and I've never seen Banker's Life have that kind of atmosphere - it was just awesome to be a part of it. I was "Team Lee" before the match and despite the outcome, I'm still "Team Lee" - he's an outstanding technical wrestler and is just pure class. He now has 2 losses - Micic & Red - the simple fact that he could walk into the room and choose what weight he wants to wrestle and those are where he chose to go says all that needs to be said about Nick Lee - he knew the risks and rewards and he chose to go after it - I'd take that kind of fight in the wrestling room every time. This fine young man will continue to do great things - us fans are the lucky ones along for the ride.
 
Chad Red has been wowing us for four years - again - us fans were the lucky ones. I've been lucky enough to witness the careers of 5 out of 9 4xers - becoming a 4 x state champion is not a fluke - you earn that one match at a time. Congrats to Chad Red - you've joined an elite list. Good luck in your NCAA wrestling career.

How about the motor on Samuels? He gets beat on for five plus minutes by the beast, comes back fresh as a daisy and scores a takedown? His conditioning is phenomenal.

One of my last impressions was from Streck's interview - "not good enough." He'd just won a state championship and he was already dissecting his failures in the match. Purdue is lucky to be getting him - their football team might make a run with that kind of work ethic in the locker room
