Results from Jay County tonight Jay County beats Yorktown 42-36 then delta beats jay county 43-36. Notable results Ethan Reiley over Carter Overby by decision. Justin Boone over Taye Curtis at 126 by fall. Kaeb Stebbins over Curtis 9-0 I believe at 132. Neil Mosier over Ethan Reiley by decision. Delta Hwt over Jay County HWT by fall. Was really some great wrestling tonight by all 3 teams. Jay County was also without Clark at 138
Also to add Winchester 138,145, and 195 are all pretty tough too. Winchester doesn’t have a bad team for 1A at all just missing a handful of weights

It is all about match-ups, especially early in the year when teams are trying to figure out their lineup. Frankton has got an invite to team state twice, placing as high as 5th losing to North Posey in a dual that came down to bonus points. We split matches 7-7, was an exciting dual and what it should be about.
Fast forward to this year, we have 30 kids on our roster with some young kids, and some talent from top to bottom. Several options within all weight classes.
Opening weekend Delta beats us, Alexandria beats Delta, and we beat Alexandria. It literally was about match-ups. I would say all three teams were not at full strength either with the best 14 kids in each lineup.
For a small school, we wrestle a very competitive schedule, facing very few 1A & 2A teams. The Pendleton Heights regional is not a cakewalk by no means, especially with Cathedral, several Indy schools, Noblesville, Pendleton Heights, etc. Even the Elwood sectional is highly competitive from a team and individual standpoint with semi-state/state ranked kids representing several weight classes. We will continue to do what we do with our program, and hope the cards fall in place. Looking at the 1A qualifying teams and FF's within several of their lineups, it becomes frustrating for teams such as ours and others such as Cascade that could represent well at a 1A level.
I couldn’t agree more. Our dual record stinks right now, but we have also been without multiple varsity guys at both of our tournaments. Strength of schedule has to mean something too. We are 3-7 but all 7 of our losses are to 3A and 4A schools. We will get to see jay county on Tuesday

I would say Owen Valley is a good contender for the 2A spot. I’ve seen/coached a number of their wrestlers in the off-season and saw they had a very close dual with Terre Haute South and Floyd Central.

Looks like Copass has wrestled the most notable matches of anyone so far. He's had a couple 3-1, 3-2 matches with the top guys in the semi state.
He beat new 5-1 as well who’s ranked 11th in state and 8th in semi-state. It’s early but he’s looking pretty good early

Exciting to see him finally hit the mat! Hopefully I will get to see him at Semi State. He’s a junior correct?
He’s a senior

Has Carter wrestled a varsity match in his highschool career? Knew he was a stud as an 8th grader but everyone’s said watch out for him at State Tourney time and he’s nowhere to be found. I’m excited if this is true!
He has not. He would have last year, but was out all year due to injury this year he is healthy and ready to go

Watch for Carter Overby at 120 for Yorktown this year

Yorktown we have 2 full size mats one runs up along the wall a bit so really it’s closer to 1 3/4 we have around 30 on our high school team and 35 for elementary. Our middle school is also currently under construction so middle school and elementary are sharing the room with middle school having about 45 kids

Of the ones that placed, who are the ones that surprised the most, and have the best chance at making the podium at bankers next yr
Jayden Jett from Cowan went from a regional qualifier at 120 to 8th place at frosh soph state
Jackson New Yorktown 220 went out first round of semi-state lost 1-0 to Beck of Rochester and pinned everyone else to get third as a second year wrestler.
The East Central kid that won at 138 was very entertaining and could pin anyone from anywhere
Cameron Clark of Jay County falls in OT in the finals to Thrine who is tough as nails.
I saw tons of pretty decent kids this weekend that didn't place honestly. I think the level of competition at this has drastically improved over the last couple years.

Yes I heard me gave mocco a good match but couldn't find any results on it.
Just checked it today. Ben Milius in 02-03 season had 336 takedowns. Chandler Carroll 4x placer phenomenal neutral wrestler and cut just about every kid he wrestled 165 takedowns in 11-12 season... thats insane

Parris' dump series on everybody was unstoppable..
HWBubba Dickerson hitting hit famous Dump and Pinning B.J Scott in a minute 95 finals was nasty barely accumulated 10 mins on the mat at state.
Nosko chin whipping Milius(had over 200 TDs that season I heard) in the 03 finals was unreal.
Mckinleys Headlock on Kieffer was BRUTAL, you could feel the thud!
Mendez toss on lil Ruhlman was beautiful.
Allred using the NC patented bar and Wrist Coach Black and him mastered was lights out!
Millius twins takedown records will stay up on our wall forever. I’d have to double check the number but it was CRAZY high... like double or triple Chandler Carroll’s season record.

Also Christian Mejia and Christian Hunt their freshman year OT ticket round is another one that comes to mind.
-
Schuyler Phillips (Yorktown) and Forrest Glogouski (Fairfield) was a rough one both were ranked top 5 I believe and Phillips lost to LJ Mosier of South Adam’s in regional finals. I believe they also wrestled in the round to go to nationals at D2 regionals as well.

1 more match....I see what you did there.....LOL
We will take as many matches as we can get. ESPECIALLY this year. For what it’s worth, I think semi-state is a pretty decent accomplishment for a kid who’s a second-year wrestler and weighs 100 lbs. We are just grateful we get to go compete even if it is only one more match

No mention of Cael McCormick? Four-time placer and two-time DI NCAA qualifier?
Or another Army wrestler Ben Harvey who has had a solid NCAA career.
How could I forget my neighbor . Cael McCormick as well, but I believe he was only a three time placer losing to Alston Bane Friday night one year. Also Christian Hunt three time placer two time runner up lost to Cummings and Triana as a freshman Friday night to graham rooks then in finals to Bailey and slivka

Chandler Carroll Yorktown
4x placer
3rd- loss to Campbell of New Castle
