backtothemat reacted to grecoref in USAW Card on iPhone at ISWA State
Although I can't say for sure, I would bet if you are from the Indianapolis area it would be ok. If you are from the northern part of the state then you would need to print the card and have 2 additional forms of identification.

backtothemat reacted to Sig40 in Why you won't wrestle/coach Greco.
If we really want to grow Greco in Indiana, then ISWA should require wrestlers to attend 2 greco tournaments before they can wrestle at state. If they do this then every kid that participates will place. But seriously the numbers will be even lower this year bc all the kids that won't be at freestyle will definitely not be at greco.

IF THEY ARE NOT CUTTING 15 POUNDS AND WINNING EVERYTHING YOU ARE A TERRIBLE PARENT AND SHOULD QUIT....
Is the wrong answer on so many levels.

Welcome to mainstream America. I feel like a large minority if parents these days in all youth sports are priming their kids for college athletic scholarships. It happens to a rare few. Goals are still good. But expectations seem unrealistically high for a lot of kids (and parents).

Exactly. It didn't happen because it shouldn't have happened.

backtothemat reacted to EvansvilleSpectator in Interesting State Stats
State champions per Semi-State:
Evansville (E): 3 ~ 21.4%
Merrilleville (M): 7 ~ 50%
New Catle (NC): 3 ~ 21.4%
Fort Wayne (FW): 1 ~ 7.1%
State Placers by SS
E: 31 or 27.7%
M: 26 or 23.2%
NC: 31 or 27.7%
FW: 24 or 21.4%
4's over 1's: 5
Worth noting that 3 of the 5 1's that went down were from FW. Then one each from M and NC.
The placements of these 4s were two in 8th, one in 7th, one was 4th, and one was 3rd.
Bonus Points:
37 Majors
3 Technical Falls
4 Forfeits
83 Pins
Of those pins, 33 were in the first period, 31 in the second, and 19 in the third.
Also worth noting was New Castle's 132 state qualifiers all placed.
Some numbers may be 1 or 2 off, I am human.

WOW! What a 4 years . I appreciate the positive comments about Tommy . He really loves wrestling as if you couldn't tell by his giant smile on the big screen. The thing is , he would have smiled that big at any spot on the podium because that is the kind of young man he is.
I on the other hand really tried to be like the coolest wrestling dad ever (Ben LeCount) but fell short of keeping my composure in excitement .
I want to give a Big Congratulations to the Lee Family . We think the world of their family and have tons of respect for them. By far one of the most humble and deserving families there is . There is no doubt Nick and Joe will make history for Indiana , in State and around the World.
Most people probably haven't even met Matt Lee yet . C'mon Man ! They keep coming ! Sorry Justice . Keep training because I know the Lee's will.
On to the next 4 years . I can only hope we are as blessed

backtothemat reacted to westsideski in returning champs losing?
Tyler Ferguson was out all year with a compression fracture in his L2 and L3 lumbar. Didnt know if he was going to be able to come back or not. That kid went through alot of rehab to come back. To do as well as he did speaks volumes of his charachter. Injuries to anyone in the post season like Konrath and Stevenson are unfortunate and especially to someone's senior year. I am very proud to call him my son and glad he got to leave high school on a winning note.
S. Ferguson

That's exactly why I was hesitant to crown Joe the champ after beating James. Hats off to Cash. He's a great wrestler and a 2-time State Champ for a reason.

I have watched Alex wrestle for some years now and I will say the same thing I told everyone while standing in MD wrestling room before the state finals last year I think he (Alex Johnson) has a chance why do I say that they asked BECAUSE Alex does not stop wrestling until the whistle blows! There are only a few others in recent years that have had close to the heart that Alex has but not quite the whole heart. He will show up to wrestle and yes he has a chance!

backtothemat reacted to JoeDad in Wrestling Spectator/Fans...Most Consecutive State Finals in row
I have attended the IHSAA State Wrestling Finals every year since 1970.
1970-1973 high school - competed @ HW in 1973
1974-77 while @ Purdue University - I was on Purdue's team - but still made State Finals
1978-2010 while coaching @ North Montgomery HS - didn't always have a competitor, but I was there
2011-present - I have been the tournament director
I think that's 46 years?
1985 - meet was moved to New Castle HS - same year my daughter was born - my 8 month pregnant wife was with me!

Cummings will not major the field. Too much at stake to take too many chances. I see more decisions than majors in his future.

Without Joe's loss to James, I think the Joe Lee vs. Brandon James semi-finals match would be talked about exactly like Nick and Micic from 2014. I will just say I am sure Joe Lee is glad he has already faced Brandon James and has the video to study, a chance is brother did not get last year. Is there another guy in the State James would rather not wrestle again after defeating already? I see a CLOSE match between these two.
-
backtothemat reacted to EvansvilleSpectator in Any anticipated dark horses to watch for this weekend?
Cainan Schaefer #17 could do quite a bit better than his rank.
120 is about as easy to predict as winning the lottery 3 days in a row.
126 I think this guy named Chad could make a little noise if he plays his cards right and has a spunky enough outfit.

Right now, none. Depends on what happens tomorrow with schools and practices when it comes to additional pounds. And most systems will have it figured out on getting to Indy come Frday.

backtothemat reacted to InSpectator in 120 Will be fun!
I have to agree with you based upon Black's success against Reitz. Elliot also has a shot.
In most weight classes, we have 1 to 3 kids who kind of outshine everyone else in the weight class. Several of the kids show up to state with a goal to win, but understand that they are the underdog and the likelihood is not really good. At 120, however, there are 8 to 9 wrestlers who are all going to show up to Bankers believing that they are the best kid there, and will be hoping for nothing less than first place. That has to make for some great wrestling!

You obviously haven't been paying attention. Kemper is in great shape this year and will not get gassed. He wins this match easily.
