  1. Just wanted to remind everyone one final time that the Warrior RTC @ Indiana Tech starts Sunday...

Fort Wayne LEGEND and current Indiana University Wrestling Assistant Coach Riley Lefever will be in attendance at Sunday's 6:00pm practice!  Coach Lefever wrestled at Wabash College, where he was a 4x DIII National Champion, team captain and a First Team Academic All-American, and was also a UWW Junior Age Group National Team Member.  Lefever then moved to State College, PA where he spent five years training freestyle with the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club under the tutelage of Cael Sanderson.  In 2018 Riley earned the bronze medal at the Dave Schultz International Memorial tournament at 92kg and a bronze medal at the Outstanding Ukrainian Tournament.  In 2019 he earned third place in the World Team Challenge Tournament.

We are hosting our Coaches Summit this Sunday 8/29 4:00pm-6:00pm.   We encourage any youth, middle school, high school, and college coaches that are interested in making their program better and growing the sport as a whole in Fort Wayne and the surrounding area to attend.  Coaches you can bring car load(s) of athletes with you on Sunday, and they can hangout during the coaches summit in the wrestling facility until our 6:00pm workout.

Free Open House Workouts are this Sunday 8/29, Monday 8/30, Wednesday 9/1 @ 6:00pm-8:00pm.  Athletes, Parents, and Coaches are encouraged to attend these workouts.  Groups of Indiana Tech Men's and Women's wrestlers will be at these workouts.  We encourage boys and girls of all ages to attend these wrestling practices.  We also encourage parents and coaches to come see the facility, meet the coaching staff, and see what we have to offer.

Fall Session starts next Sunday 9/5... We offer fall, winter, and spring training sessions for all ages and ability levels. We also will offer wrestling camps in the spring/summer, and are willing to come to your school or club to run a clinic.

  2. Thanks for the A1 compliment General, but ironically enough my Mom and Dad raised me and my brothers with Country Bob's always stocked in the fridge.  I have been fortunate to have been around some very good people, first as an athlete and then as a coach.  Extremely grateful for my friendship with Coach Pompei and the opportunity he has given me to coach at Indiana Tech, which allows me to continue to be surrounded by some A-1 individuals.

The Indiana Tech student-athletes are arriving back on campus, and there is a lot of buzz amongst the men's and women's wrestling teams about the Warrior RTC.   We are all pumped to get in the wrestling facility and get better together.  It is going to be a super neat training environment and a unique opportunity for elementary, middle school, and high school athletes to supplement their wrestling training year-round with college athletes and college coaches of one of the very best NAIA wrestling programs in the country.  We are excited to be a resource to help athletes of all ages reach their goals both on and off the mat!

Coaches Summit & Open House Week is just 2 weeks away!  The goal of the Coaches Summit on Sunday August 29 from 4:00pm-6:00pm will be to get our youth, high school, and college coaches together under one roof and discuss how TOGETHER we can enhance the wrestling environment in Fort Wayne and the surrounding area!  Open House Week is where athletes, parents, and coaches can come check out the facility and meet the coaches and get a workout in for free.  We will get a drill in, show some technique, and wrestle quite a bit of live at the Open House Workouts. The Open House nights will be Sunday 8/29, Monday 8/30, and Wednesday 9/1 from 6:00pm-8:00pm.  Our Fall Session will officially begin on Sunday, September 5 with a Beginners Group, Elem/MS Elite Group, and HS/College Group.  More information can be found at www.warriorrtc.com contact info@warriorrtc.com if you have any questions.

If you or any member(s) of your staff are planning to attend the Coaches Summit, please fill out this google form to help us get an idea of how many people will be there- https://forms.gle/sQnfLp9mDPHbTmwV7

  3. I have attached the pdf version of the article to this post.  Thanks to Dane Fuelling, The Decatur Daily Democrat, and IndianaMat in their efforts to publicize this big news.  My family and I are anxious to get moved up to Fort Wayne this month.  The Warrior RTC staff is excited to help grow the sport through our unique platform at Indiana Tech.  We are really fired up to work alongside the coaches in the area and to be a supplemental training resource to help their kids get better.  Big time opportunities coming soon to Fort Wayne and the surrounding area in the sport of wrestling for both boys and girls through the Warrior Regional Training Center!  Stay tuned... Our website is www.warriorrtc.com and we are on Social Media...

  4. 2018 Tyce Freije vs Alex Mosconi

2020 Tyce Freije vs Bryer Hall

Unfortunately our guy came out on the losing end of those wars.  Mosconi was state runner up in 2018, Freije was sidelined the majority of the regular season due to injury that season and then went ahead and wrestled the postseason even though his hand needed surgically repaired.  Hall was state runner up in 2020.  Freije lost an overtime bout to Kervin at EMD Holiday Classic, and Kervin would go on to win state title over Hall in that exciting match.  Tyce won the NC Semi-State at 120 in 2017 and went on to finish 8th in the state, only state qualifying freshman in the weight class.   Tyce again won the semi-state in 2019 and went on to finish 4th at state at 138.  Bias, but if we were one of the 49 states that has wrestlebacks, then Freije would have likely been a 4x state medalist.   That’s how it goes though.   It’s a tough tournament, you have to win your matches.

  5. Roncalli is looking for some opportunities to get our middle school wrestlers more competitive matches between November - March outside of our Catholic School League.   If you are interested in scheduling a dual meet with our team, or if you are interested in a practice together where we scrimmage and pair kids up of like weight and experience level, or if you have an opening in a public middle school tournament... please contact Coach Wade McClurg- wrestling@roncalli.org

  6. Coach Wadkins,

Duane shared the IHSAA tape recording of the 1980 finals with me recently.  Was really fascinated as I watched all the matches, and just how different some of the rules and procedures were back then and how much the sport has evolved.  Here is the video of Lutgring’s finals match that went into OT vs Roger Miller of Warren Central.  Duane was telling me that you two had some wars on the wrestling mat!

Roncalli's Duane Lutgring (second row & 2nd from the right and standing next to Coach Bless) 185 lbs State Champion 30-0 record.  Went on to wrestle for the University of Indianapolis and earn 5th Place All-American honors at the 1985 NCAA Div 2 Championships in the HWT (unlimited) division.

  7. Winter Sports - January & February

Fall Sports - March & April

Spring Sports - May & June

I have been saying this to anyone that will listen.  Shortened seasons are not ideal, but this might be the best and safest option for this year to try and "guarantee" seniors and all kids a school year and athletics.  This also allows kids to play multiple sports.  This would also give schools 20 weeks to figure out how to get back to live in-person school and educating kids in a safe manner, which should be the most important mission right now.  Would also like to think that 6 months from now we will have a better handle and understanding on Covid 19 and be able to get back to normalcy.  It is unnecessary to rush into a fall sports season, when we don't even know how school is going to work.  Would hate to get to week 2 of football season and be right back where we were in March.  Just my two cents... WE WILL WRESTLE AGAIN

  8. I have three wrestling mat sections that are 6' x 18' (1.5" thick).   This is a total wrestling space of 18' x 18'.  They are black in color and Dollamur brand.   They are in very good shape and have a whole lot of life left in them.   I also have rubber interlocking mats to use as a subfloor underneath the mats to give it more cushion, and to help keep the mat from moving.  I simply don't have any space or use for them anymore, but would like to see these mats continue to go to good use.  Wrestling Mats with subflooring.... If interested please contact me at 317.501.8306  (call or text)  or email me at wrestling@roncalli.org    Would like to get these off my hands very soon... will take best offer!

Roncalli High School is an approved satellite weigh in site for USAW Winter Nationals.   Anyone looking to attend Winter Nationals can come to Roncalli (Southside of Indianapolis) to do your weigh in, so you are not rushed on Friday night to make weigh ins in Illinois, and if you are a Novice or Schoolboy you could drive up Saturday morning since those age groups start wrestling in afternoon.   Drive back to the east lot of the campus where the Bubble Gym Facility is.  Enter the doors on the east side of the building, wrestling facility is right there.

Remember you must register on Trackwrestling prior to Wednesday night, there will be no walk up registration at the satellite weigh in site.

Look for Caden Hubner form Avon to have a breakout season at 220. He has put the work in and has changed his body a ton. One of the leading tacklers on a solid Avon football team also. Solid kid.

Also Avon's Cadet 195 State Champ Jay'den Williams will look to break into these rankings.

Lookout for rivals Scott Fitts (EMD) and Jaden Reynolds (Avon) to make this list also.

The man's name is Jayden Williams, no apostrophe...  You must have copy/paste Pendoski's spelling error on trackwrestling! Ha!

Good pick up for the Orioles, great kid with a lot of athleticism.

  12. The Rebels will no longer be hosting a Freestyle Duals meet on April 23rd. Rebel Wrestling Foundation (RWF) will be hosting a Freestyle Qualifier event on Thursday April 20th that we are excited about.  It will be very well ran with 2 full mats and 2 licensed officials for age groups PW - JR.  Our goal is to get everyone a couple matches and out of the gym in a couple hours.  We also understand with proms, SAT/ACT, spring breaks, baseball, etc.  it gets very difficult to make it to 2 freestyle tournaments on 2 of the 4 weekends in April.... This event will count as 1 of your qualifiers for ISWA Freestyle State.  Flyer and more information....
