No shame in that. Rosbottom and Jankowski were national caliber and Minton was just a fearless animal that tossed everyone to their backs (including Rosbottom in that regional match). There were some other nice names at 145 at state that year, but Rosbottom and Minton steamrolled them into the final. Still a real shame to this day the state runner-up Jankowski couldn't be in that mix on the big stage.

Unfortunately our guy came out on the losing end of those wars.  Mosconi was state runner up in 2018, Freije was sidelined the majority of the regular season due to injury that season and then went ahead and wrestled the postseason even though his hand needed surgically repaired.  Hall was state runner up in 2020.  Freije lost an overtime bout to Kervin at EMD Holiday Classic, and Kervin would go on to win state title over Hall in that exciting match.  Tyce won the NC Semi-State at 120 in 2017 and went on to finish 8th in the state, only state qualifying freshman in the weight class.   Tyce again won the semi-state in 2019 and went on to finish 4th at state at 138.  Bias, but if we were one of the 49 states that has wrestlebacks, then Freije would have likely been a 4x state medalist.   That’s how it goes though.   It’s a tough tournament, you have to win your matches.

Bradbury Portage vs Birge Frankfort 
 
Birge was the returning state Champ, Bradbury was going to War with Alex Ramos every week. Bradbury lost to Ramos beat him for a regional title, setting up the match. Bradbury got the W, then went on to continue his rivalry to Ramos losing to him Under the lights.

To confirm what I think I understand from the update up top . . . Correct me if I get any of this wrong!?!
 
1. Regionals are still same time and same place as previously announced. 
 
2. State Finals are being moved from Kokomo to Hamilton Heights. Time changes from morning to late afternoon (3 p.m. weigh in).
 
3.  For ALL events, wrestlers are permitted two parents. Teams are permitted 2 coaches for 5 or less girls and 3 coaches for 6 or more girls.

Yes you need to be a guest for each session. If you are not you will not get that session's wrist band and not be let in.

I think the 1999 state finals between Doherty and Maddox was awesome to watch, going down to the last few seconds and ending with a desperation move. but im a little Bias

Every year when I go to the state finals, the bar that I set is hoping to see another match as good as Petrov vs. Campbell.

My other thread of the Indiana Wrestling Awards has gotten some favorable responses on here as well as my social media accounts, with particular aim at my star ratings and Match of the Year picks and candidates from over the years. It's led me to ask, what matches in our state's history are some of the greatest of all-time?
 
I have four matches that I've given five stars, three of which I saw live, and one via YouTube.

What matches can you guys think of that were five stars or near so that were match of the year candidates that will go down in history?

Also the trainers asked me if I was ok, and I replied that it wasn’t my head, I just landed on my neck weird. I never even had the thought of taking the match from him like that. I have too much respect for him and his father to ever do that.

Any chance someone from that sectional could contact Mr. Faulkens?  In my experience with him I do think he is a fair man and tries to make things right when something like this happens.  If the tournament director misunderstood, maybe there is a chance (small though it may be) it could be reseeded with it being early in the week.

Friday night at Maconaquah was filled with some great action and a lot of young ladies putting themselves on the line, but I wanted to share with all of you a photo I took that really hit me. 
 
Heritage High School hasn't (according to IndianaMat results) won a dual meet in the last four years and they are 0-47 in that time. But every time I see coaches Lockett and Martin, I am impressed at the way they run their program. They are full of energy and passion for their kids. I have seen it at home dual meets, at the ACAC duals and I saw it on Friday night. 
 
Heritage had one girl wrestling. One girl. Yet the entire team (almost, I think) and both coaches were in attendance and coaching their hearts out and laughing with their kids. This made a huge impression on me and I will be rooting for the Patriots the rest of the year. 
The whole team spent six hours in a gym to watch Amber Hoy wrestle four matches. 
 
Kudos to the Heritage team and to both coaches for the role they are playing in their program and congrats to Amber Hoy on her placement Friday night. 

Other guy was Derek (sp) Donelson who coincidentally went to Plainfield.

We worked with the table workers to help find these videos, these are not even close to all of the awesome moves that occurred during the weekend, but these are some that those table workers thought were awesome.

Coach Holden and I are proud to announce that we will be taking our rivalry to Hoosier Gym, the home of the fictional Hickory Hoosiers in the iconic 1986 film Hoosiers. The date is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The gym last regularly hosted meets in the late 1960's before Knightstown moved to their current facility. The Panthers have wrestled Eastern Hancock in the facility in recent seasons. NineStar will help us make history by doing the first ever telecast of a wrestling meet from the facility. Coach Holden and I are working on some ideas to make the event even more special. Hope you can join us for this special evening. Stay tuned for future announcements.

Rogers and Noehre are tough competitors. They both wrestled with a ton of heart. Congratulations to both on an outstanding finals match and especially to Rodgers for state champ!

Tristan Ruhlman from Bloomington South went 22-16 last year and lost first round of regionals. This year, he is 31-1 at 160 and has wins over #7 @ 152 Conley 3-1, previously ranked Sollars 6-2, an #7 Singleton 8-3, fall over # 20 Doane, and #16 Schank 9-3.  Tristan's only loss is to #4 Pruett 3-4. Now, Tristan will have to beat a game Sollars again in the ticket round so I am not saying he is a lock but very impressed with his improvement. 
What gives? Seems like he got serious about wrestling and turned it up a notch..or several notches. 
Who else has improved drastically like this?

Yezzy Devault HWT Penn....24-16 and 1st round regional loss last year to 36-1 currently.
