  1. If coaches would put in their rosters I'd put out some preseeds.

  2. I have "real life" experience on this one. I was in 10th grade during the 1971-72 season. I was not very good and never expected to be actually wrestling in a meet so I was not concerned about ny weight. It is a long story, but events conspired to make me our JV entrant for a match the next evening. I was ten pounds over. I had never lost weight in my life, but I knew what some of the guys did. I wanted to make sure I made weight so I did alot. The net evening when I weighed in I was almost seven pounds under weight. To wrestle heavyweight back then you had to weigh no more than 245 pounds. I believe it had been that way for quite some time. I believe we still had the 245 pound class when I was a Junior, but by the time my Senior season rolled around the IHSAA/National Federation had removed the limit. The biggest guy I wrestled, as a Junior and Senior, was a 420 pounder. I weighed about 240 at that time. I had took up lifting and working out and managed to actually become worthy of wrestling Varsity. I often got a bit crazy....I shot on the 420 pounder, and he crushed me. Actually put me on my back. I fought like crazy until the period ran out, and then ended up pinning him in the next period. In the 80's they put the 275 weight limit in because at least one wrestler was injured (broken next) because he was wrestling the unlimited class while weighing around 180 pounds. I think there were several instances of severe injury. I think the reason they initially went to an unlijmited class was because of all the hype surrounding Chris Taylor (Iowa State). THere were also other big men in NCAA wrestling like Tab Thacker. Another one was the guy who was in the movie "Stir Crazy" with Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder. Besides being an outstanding wrestler he was also a really good opera singer.

    Broken big toe

I’ve experienced this. It’s about how much pain can he tolerate. You can try having the trainer do a “buddy” tape job on toes and anchoring on foot for some support. You may need a bigger shoe. It’ll probably take 4-6 weeks to be pain free but maybe he’ll be able to tolerate it. Ice it after every match/work out. You may have to get a stationary bike since running to cut weight will not be fun. Rest can only help but I get and respect the drive to compete in his last season. Good luck.

  5. Rochester bumped their 138- Basham up to 144. Rodriguez (WC) won by fall. Rochester bumped their 144 - Schott up to 150. WC’s 150 - Ezra Rodriguez fought off his back for over a minute to end the first period and trailed 5-0 going into the 2nd. Got the fall in the 2nd to seal the dual.

    To All Coaches

I have thought exactly this for a long time. Take these next couple days and focus on your family. They deserve you. Thank you and Merry Christmas you fellow psychopaths.

  7. When your 7yr old son says “ how can you go coach everyone else, but can’t come coach me….” That hits hard!!! 100% reason I stepped away from HS sports a couple of years ago. Family first!

  10. Impressive win by West Central any way you look at it . Rochester is a solid team with a win over defending 3A champ Mishawaka.

  12. This is 100 percent correct. Sit a few weeks. It sucks, but it will be worth it in the end if he plans on making a run in the tourney. Probably would go if it wasn't his big toe. Best of luck to your boy.

  17. If you are running it, should be done in 15-20mins. Don’t let some certain coaches start talking………..
