This is a tough weight, but I still think the toughest weight class I ever saw at Conseco was 119 lbs in 2009.  How do you think this class compares to that one?

2008-2009 119 lbs bracket from top to bottom:

Casey Kenney            4th        (Jay County, 2nd 4th)

John Petrov                DNP     (Hanover Central, SQ SQ)

Justin Kieffer             7th       (Roncalli, 7th 7th 4th 3rd)

Ethan Raley                DNP     (Indian Creek, 1st SQ 2nd 1st)

Justin Brooks             5th        (Warsaw, 5th 4th 4th 5th)

Marquis Williams     DNP      (Snider, SQ)

Jeffery Stotridge       DNP      (Charlestown, SQ)

Camden Eppert         1st         (Anderson Highland, 4th 1st 2nd 1st)

Alex Johns                  3rd        (Evansville Reitz, 6th 3rd 3rd)

Seve Duncan              DNP      (Beech Grove, SQ SQ)

Oscar Trujillo             DNP      (Lafayette Jefferson, SQ)

Derek Bevans             6th        (Yorktown, SQ 5th 6th 3rd)

Brandon Wright        2nd       (Cathedral, 2nd 1st 2nd 1st)

Justin Fuller               DNP      (Brownsburg, SQ)

Alex Filer                    DNP       (Elkhart Central, SQ)

Daniel Bradley           8th         (Knox, 8th 2nd)

Five finalists, three 2x champs (one of whom didn't even make it out of Friday night), four 4x placers, three 3x placers and two 2x placers.  Also kind of interesting that Johns, Bevans and Petrov's little brothers are wrestling 120 this weekend.

One of my favorite matches ever was Williams-Salas. I've never seen anybody eat a cross face like Salas did in OT. That man was determined!!

I believe it was the toughest I had seen. So many evenly matched kids. Crazy theres three siblings @ 120 this year from that 2009 119 class.  If Brooks @ 113 ate more, ( ;))  you'd have four pretty good pairs of brothers  8) There are some pretty good wrestlers in college now from this list.

Josh think: Josh Fuqua, state runner up last year and a heck of a wrestler, got left behind because he had Garcia in the ticket round. This is a really tough weight class.

He was a runner up in a weight class that many people thought was very weak last year. He was also getting dominated before he caught Boomsma in the semis.

Also everyone knows how hard it is for a kid to bump up from 103 to 119/120 and still be as successful. Galka was only a state qualifier at 119 and a lot of people thought hed be a 4xer when he won state as a freshman. Fuqua is tough, but i don't think that makes a good arguement for this  year being tougher then the others mentioned.

Points well taken. I still think he beats half the guys in this weight class. My point was that if he was here, the weight class would be even tougher. But I agree going from 103 as a frosh to 120, it is very difficult to even make it to state much less place.

Great post regarding siblings. This was one of if not the toughest weight classes I have over seen. The finals very fittingly was a great hard fought OT match too

Zach Krumlauf got 8th as a freshman at 103 and moved up two weight classes and still was very successful this year and qualified for state.

Did Fuqua and Krumlauf wrestle when CP and Dekalb wrestled?

brock bevans made that jump this year too. he got 2nd to keuneke this weekend

To the point made earlier...  I agree Fuqua beats half of this group.  I believe he had 5 losses this year.  2 to Petrov and 3 to Garcia.

Petrov could take it all and Garcia will be on the stand as well.

Fuqua is tough and will be back next year.

That was a great semi-final match with salas and Williams. How many state champs were there?

By the logic presented, tougher classes could include:

2010 112 lb

Jacob Boomsma (35-6) - Bloomington South

Bryan Kuhn - Evansville Reitz

Danny Rodriguez (34-9)- Highland

Jordan Gilbert (41-5) - Whitko (11)

Jared McKinley (45-2) - Perry Meridian (10)

Kyle Ayersman (36-1) Lake Central (10)

Luke Welch (35-9) Castle (9)

Brian Harvey (37-5) Indianapolis Cathedral (10)

Steven Gonzales (32-2) Delta (11)

Brenden Campbell (52-1) New Castle (10)

Nicholas Crume (43-7) Jimtown (9)

Brandon Coppinger (28-7) Portage

Cody Kendle (35-5) Pike Central (11)

Paul Beck (47-1) Mishawaka (12)

Logan Randle (41-1) Huntington North (12)

Mason Todd (43-3) Pendleton Heights (10)

Brendan Campbell (54-2) - New Castle

or 2009 103 Lb - 4 guys have won state titles already, 2 other possible, several finalists - could be total of 9 or 10 titles.

McKinley

Todd

Ayersman

Phillips

Harvey

Batt

Hall (future 2x placer)

Keif (finalist)

Campbell - Medical at SS

Brooks Warsaw - lost SS

Boomsma

Que

Kuhn
