Clint Gard
Maligned...first of all, thanks for all of your hard work. For Rochester, we actually have a 6th regional qualifier that is an underclassmen. The 4th place finisher got hurt and our kid finished 5th. He now moves into 4th. 10 Total. 6 under, 4 seniors. Npw97
This is nuts, New Prairie was the second best team in 2A this year. They have 11 seniors in their line up for sectionals. They could have put in their 45 underclassmen in those weight classes and gotten 13+ kids to Crown Point. To be that low in the scores for team state is crazy. So the np coach screwed his team and my son who went 24-0 this year by letting the varsity seniors wrestle sectionals? The IHSWCA should really rethink the way they do things before everyone sees this stuff for what it really is; a joke.

Y2CJ41
Your son was undefeated this year and the coach didn't put him in the sectional lineup? I would be having some discussions with the coach before I would be spouting off on a messageboard.

I would be more mad at my coach for not letting my undefeated son wrestle at sectional just because their was a senior in his weight class. Thats messed up!!! So in summary I would say yes the coach did screw his team in multiple ways by not letting the best kids wrestle and just letting senior wrestle. Might want to talk to him before you talk to the IHSWCA.
Npw97
I give full support to our coach and my son lost his wrestle off to the now sectional Champion. I would just like to point out the fact that New Prairie is on the bottom half of the projected team state post season qualifying team scores. This is beyond bad, it is disrespectful. You have a full lineup plus 45 jv kids? Wow! Those are perry and penn numbers.

Npw97
My son didn't get "screwed" out of anything. He lost his spot to a wrestler that was better than him at that point in time. The fact that New Prairie ' s JV roster is so large and talented is a testament to our coaches dedication to the NPHS wrestling program.
TripleB
He was undefeated and had to wrestle off? That process sounds more messed up than the team selection criteria.
decbell1
What NPw97 is trying to say is that a coach is now faced with the reality that he can wrestle a 20-15 Senior who might have an outside shot at Semi-State, or he can go with a sophomore who is 6-6, because he knows he is good enough to qualify for Regional and score more points than the senior. Which move is best for his team? Which move is best for his individual wrestlers? If the New Prairie coach doesn't think his seniors at 152 or 220 can make it to semi-state, he knows in the back of his mind that he could put his JV underclassmen in and score more points by maybe only getting 6th place at sectional. Y2CJ41
That takes some guts to have a kid that is undefeated on the year and not put him in the lineup at sectional time. His replacement must be on track for a finish under the lights in a couple weeks.

nkraus
so, who is the new prairie kid that was undefeated? i might know a thing or two about new prairie---i will say this-i know who new prairie has-I'd be shocked if they were as good next year as they are this year-Just my opinion

nkraus
Okay, that was kind of uncalled for. As a former New Prairie wrestler I can tell you that if New Prairie wasn't in the Merrillville Semi State they would have more state finals appearances*. Not saying they would be a powerhouse, but I assure you they'd have more.

Npw97
N Kraus New Prairie may not be as good as they are next year but they might be better. Only time will tell. All I am trying to say is that they are very good this year for instance 3rd in 2A. However just because they have more seniors than underclassmen on the varsity line up this year does not mean the level of wrestling will drop off next year. That is the difference between a wrestling team and a wrestling program; which is what NP has created. I don't know how you think you know NP but I fear your information might be outdated.
