So you don't think that the trainers would have let him step on the line for 1 second, the ref blow the whistle, then the South bend coach throw in the towel and default with 8 seconds left in the match?There is no way the trainers would stop this situation from happening. I've seen it be done. Also, fans booing a situation is not always "picking" on a high school kid. My heart hurts when I see these things. -

Didn't want to look at 6 seeds because a lot of weight classes advanced to 5/6 matches with only wins as forfeits. To place top 4 you usually have to beat someone with a pulse. Your method shows a zero result for a number one seed winning a sectional. I'm not worried about the differential

Ok here we go. Arbitrary data regurgitation about to commence. I looked at the top 4 seeds in both the castle and central sectionals. If a wrestler met or eclipsed his seed, his minimum seed met is 100% If a wrestler was seeded 2nd and got 4th, it is 0% Here are the results team by team MSM % MD 13 of 14 (92.8%) Memorial 12 of 13 (92.3%) Castle 10 of 10 (100%) Mount Vernon 8 (80%) Gibson Southern 7 of 8 (87.5%) Central 5 of 8 (62.5%) Heritage Hills 5 of 7 (71.4%) Reitz 5 of 6 (83.3%) Pike Central 4 of 6 (66.7%) North 3 of 6 (50%) Tecumseh 3 of 5 (60%) Boonville 2 of 5 (40%) Minimum requirement of 5 top 4 seeded contestants. Observations 1: #smallsamplesize 2: teams with the best MSM % are the teams with the toughest strength of schedule 3: teams with the worst MSM% have the weakest strength of schedule Could be cool to see theory applied to different sectionals whee some teams like Avon, New Pal, etc who wrestle hammer schedules do in relation to their better record counterparts. This literally means nothing, just bored at work. Trying to make my case for employment when decbell starts a wrestling branch of fangraphs

My theory is to test whether strength of schedule has a positive direct corrolation on out placing your seed in sectional. The idea of worse record from tougher comp= lower seed due to record. MR Chastain started a thread on this and I was just trying to quantify it. You being the west sides amalgam of Mike Wicker and Bill James, I thought you'd be a great candidate to try it out.

Dear Hook and Half (aka Curt Zenthopher disciple), please in your spare time take this theory a little further. Can you go back to the central and castle sectionals and take a look at what schools wrestled to, or better than their sectional seed. Say Md had 12 wrestlers place at or above their seed out of 14. That would be an 85.7% seed minimum met. My hypothesis: you will find a positive corrolation in minimum seed met percentage (MSM%) within the schools with the highest strength of schedule. Post hypothesis theory. I imagine GS would swap central on SOS if GS dualed MD.

I'm not sure of how this would work but if the IHSAA sanctioned a three class individual tourney could MD even bump up to 3A? Would there be a legacy system for teams with 3 or 4+ state champs multiple years? Interesting to discuss even though a lot of people are burnt out on class discussion. #CAB

That makes sense. I thought he looked out of shape Saturday and stitches in the hand would definitely account for that. This isn't a big difference between wrestling with stitches and having broken bones. I'll take McDaniel in a rematch. Trust the Tecumseh staff to make adjustments more than MD staff.

Out of all the 2002-2008 RHS grads, I think Jeremy Kempf was the best. Drew into Mike Lecuda (sp?) Friday night and lost in OT when Lecuda was runner up to Angel Escabedo in 05. The next year he drew in to Chad Biddle when Biddle won state. Ironically the only person that beat him at Semi State both years was Cooper Samuels. -
Let me clarify. The only information relevant in this situation is WRESTLER G BEAT WRESTLER A in a heads up match. No one else has wrestled each other and no common opponents. That is all the details you need to this. It's the same situation as the BCA argument. Please pick your seeding method (CAB) (BCA) etc and seed the wrestlers If I'm still sounding like I'm speaking Flemmish, decbell please intervene Just curious

No, I am the C,A,B crowd along with maligned and decbell. You are adding in a factor that would change either scenario. Tsirtsis would be first in both categories because he qualifies for criteria C. Being a semi state quarterfinalist is ahead of win percentage.

NO!!!!!! If B was Jason Tsirtsis he would meet criteria C and be the number one seed as he is a returning semi state quarterfinalist! In the scenario presented no kid was a semi state quarterfinalist so anyone talking about B being a state champ is not looking at the same scenario.

This is a ridiculous argument. You are applying skill to whatever record you choose. Why can't you just say c is the 3x defending champion and his losses came at the Ironman, Dvorak,Beast, and powerade? It is a fallacy in your argument. There is no way to know what skill is possessed by an arbitrary letter assigned to a wrestler. You shouldn't think about strength of schedule or any other intangible factor that might play a role. The seeding criteria is simply a WORDED ALGORITHM! Why don't we ask Mark Durham to run this simulated scenario with the seeding criteria and see what he comes up with.
