  1. I think the rest of Evansville better be thanking the Mooresville regional or they'd be below Fort Wayne in the rankings.

There you have it the Mooresville regional is better than Penn State.

They go by the “5th Semi State” and I was curious how well they would stack up.  I could see Fort Wayne getting to 7 in this duel.

No it's to disparage the Fort Wayne semi-state as much as possibly can. Why not compare to New Castle or East Chicago?

The Mooresville regional had 6 champs, 14 in the top 4, and 21 total placers. Fort Wayne had 3 champs and 12 in the top 4. New Castle had 4 champs and 10 in the top 4. East Chicago had 1 champ and 10 in the top 4. The rest of Evansville had 0 champs and 2 in the top 4.

Yet here we are trying to make the Fort Wayne semi-state look bad.

  4. Yes
    2. Wrestlers being considered inbounds with one supporting point.
    5. Awarding three points for a takedown instead of two.
    6. Awarding two points for near-fall after a two-second count, three points for a near-fall after a three-second count, four points for a near-fall after a four-second count.
    8. Requiring only one supporting point for wrestling to be considered inbounds.
    9. Eliminating that knees be inside the boundary to earn a fall or near-fall with the defensive wrestler out of bounds.
    10. Allowing that the pinning area not be the “total” of supporting points when the defensive wrestler is on their back.
    12. Adding grasping of the ear guards or mat as a delayed call.
    13. Adding head-butting to the list of illegal holds/maneuvers.
    14. Expanding to include gouging or poking of the eyes to Rule 5-29-1 (Unnecessary Roughness)

    No

    1. Implementing a harsher penalty for unnecessary roughness.

*Not sure what more you need

    16. Requiring mat-side weigh-ins.
*Too many variables for it to be done properly

    7. Charging the wrestler with a loss when using a medical forfeit.
    3. Specific measurement requirements for required girls uniforms.

*Dumb, but will likely get passed

    4. Video replay in championship events.
*Shouldn't be used in high school

    Don't care

**Good luck** 17. Mandating coaches’ attire at dual meets and tournaments – similar to other NFHS sports.
    15. Requiring at least one coach in the corner of a match.
    11. Allowing a wrestler to touch the mat in front of the starting line in the neutral starting position.

Agree. Serious question though - could the referee stand next to the injured coach and athlete?  If they are discussing an injury or anything of that nature (examining them, stretching them, using an inhaler) and the conversation is about something medical let it continue. However if the discussion is about anything non-medical (example - match advice or strategy) and they are just drinking water and talking or even just catching their breathe then the ref has the ability to ask “is something injured”. Limit the discussion to assisting an injury. If not, call time and have them wrestle. And I know there are lots of ways this TOO can go sideways. Just curious if this has ever been discussed?

The best way to curb that is for injury time that the coach cannot attend to the wrestler and a trainer/doctor must attend to them. Along with not allowing water or anything like that.

This weekend I watched a kid signal for injury time while close to getting taken down, the ref didn't see it/didn't stop it, the kid ended up defending back to neutral (no takedown), then continued to wrestle the next 1+ minute of the match.

My thoughts on how to curb some of this:

Referee Injury time/stoppage = No penalty

Wrestler/Coach calls for Injury time = Opponent has choice on reset (just as with a second injury time in current rules).

As logical as this sounds I would hate for a referee to be on the hook to determine if the athlete is injured during action. That seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen and refs have enough to deal with.

  9. #1 calling out individual kids is something that you need to refrain from or else there will be a forced vacation from posting.

#2 ask Coach Peck said, it comes up every year.

The solution is hairy as you cannot penalize a kid for being hurt with points. The way NCAA does it with choice of position for the injury time is the best way to do it in my gracious opinion. While this isn't a punishment via points it gives the other wrestler an advantage that they must make use of.

Indiana is very hard to win obviously, and the winner is always competitive on a national level. But in terms of depth I wouldn’t put in in top 5, maybe top 5 for hardest to win however.

This year showed how deep we are which is a good sign. Basically anyone in the top 5 is capable of winning a title. There have been recent years where 7 or more of the preseason #1's were basically locks.
