Chad Ruggeri locking up some double overs and decking Dexter Lamimore for a pin and the state title was impressive.

Daniel Young and Gavin McGinley were having a pretty intense back and forth battle all the way into the 3rd of the state final. McGinley put Young on his back and was close to a pin.  Then Young got out, hit a reversal straight into a cradle and got the fall. The crowd was way into that match.

1.Yea,  instead of using  these soiled  word not be said to the IHSAA, "Wrestlebacks".  We'll use the word "Repechage".  Its more exotic,  mysterious, and interesting.  We could rebrand the whole movement

    2.  "No wrestlebacks" not only make our wrestlers work harder,  the process is much more efficient.  You  only need to wrestle 20 matches per bracket instead of the bloated 29 in a wrestleback bracket.  Thats a 35% savings,    You sell tickets at full price, but give the customers 35% less matches.     That's what you call profitable.   They should apply that to the State football and basketball tournaments.    Just play 2 1/2 quarters in state tournament basketball games,  you get done a lot earlier.   That way,  the basketball teams would have to do a lot more in the 1st quarter because it would count more.  The 1st quarter would be much more exciting.

Maybe the should apply that to track also.  Like in the 100 Meter dash should be the 65 meter dash.   The start of the race would be much more important and  really exciting.  Instead of going to 25 points in state tournament volleyball games, they should  go to 16 points.    Lets play 4 1/2  innings in a state baseball games.  That 1st inning would really be exciting, just like our ticket round.   We could do it to swimming also,   Nobody wants to sit and a watch a full 500 meters.  Lets reduce it by 35%, people would be much more interested in the  325 meters.  Do you want to watch all 18 holes at the state golf tournament?   Get this,   how about 12 holes.   Thats efficient and exciting.   Gymnastics has too many apparatus also,  lets cut out the uneven bars and give them one vault instead of two.  Tennis is too long, lets make it a 4 game set instead of 6. That 1st game really would count.

That would be a big lawsuit waiting to happen. No referee should be put into a situation to determine if a kid is hurt or not.

The simplest solution is do what college does and give the opponent choice of position. It's not a penalty, but gives the opponent an advantage.

I think it’s the showing up 30 minutes late, FF multiple weights when guys were weighed in, AND leaving early. One or two of those okay, but ALL three at  team state is hard to ignore.

That’s incredibly weak if Warren Central conceded defeat because they already lost to Avon by 4. Last time the 215 match was decided in UTB, flip a one point match and WC wins. Anyone excusing or arguing for WC’s actions are losers. The whole purpose of wrestling is to show up to events, toe the line, and compete. Forfeiting five weight classes when you have 50 guys on your roster and leaving competition early is the antithesis of what we are as a sport. Only way this is excusable is if there is some tragic outside reason, but no one yet has given a reason like that. If Warren Central doesn’t want to compete, then kick them out. At least a year or two ban from team state.

Just my 2 cents, but with teams begging to get into this tourney, why would anyone let Warren Central return.

Save even more time next year and don’t even come.

15 min drive and show up an hour late and leave 2+ hours early.  Stay home.

More so as the season progresses because wrestlers should be getting better. It’s quite possible the dual meet at the beginning of the season was not indicative to what the wrestle is capable of (win or lose). That said, I would think there should be some relevance to what has happened most recently.

For example, Greenfield Central beat New Pal by 40 points at the Spartan Classic but does Greenfield Centrals seed reflect that? Maybe… I truly don’t know hence the question.

On the front end, I know there are a lot of factors going into tournaments vs. duals and in no way shape or form am I suggesting Greenfield Central is better than New Pal or vice versa.

What I am saying is if there wasn’t any consideration given to holiday results, I would suggest for them to be a consideration in the future.

There are several weights where I believe the 1st 3rd or 4th best athletes are in same quarter bracket

i understand the IHSAA May do this next year, but why do it to ourselves?

I brought this matter up at our seed meeting for Regionals.  If the coaches association, women's or men's, is running this tournament then run it the way we want it ran.  The IHSAA has not sanctioned it yet, so why let them tell us how to run the tournament.

Agreed. Girls wrestling is already treated differently than boys - minimal duals and a much shorter season - so it's not like they have to be treated exactly the same when it comes to tournament time. If anything, the boys have a much better opportunity to differentiate themselves based on their work over the season at regular duals, super duals and invitationals. Girls have a handful of tournaments that they can go to, depending on how far the team wants to or is able to travel, and as a result there are some girls in the tournament that have less than 10 actual matches under their belt. It's hard to say how they should be seeded correctly, so giving them more of a chance to wrestle makes sense. In this format, you lose one match and your semi-state is done. I don't like it.

It's odd, my daughter is the 1 seed from Perry at 110lb and she has a good possibility to wrestle the the girl that got 4th from Perry in the ticket round.  I know that 1s and 4s from the same regional are always gonna be on the same side, but I think they should be in different Quarter finals.  The only thing I can think is that she was bumped up to a 3 seed  that went unfilled from another regional based on her record. Just my opinion, but this girl is very good and has been ranked all year, I think if i was her that i would rather have a shot at a #1 seed from another regional in round 1 and try to pull an upset against a wrestler i havnt seen, opposed to facing a 1 seed (assuming the one seed advances) that has been at nearly every tournament you have been to this season in the ticket round.  Just my thought.

Stalling is a very subjective call. There is not enough criteria to determine stalling in specific positions. From an official's viewpoint, we should transition to college rules for stalling. (i.e. backing up straight out of the circle) Another call that grinds my gears is stalling on top. Earlier this year, we had a leg rider beat this kid up for almost 5 minutes. Couldn't turn him because the athlete was stubborn on bottom. Not a problem. However, with 20 seconds left, the official calls our kid for stalling on top. The call where top wrestler doesn't come off the hips, though he had a leg in and was trying to power half. That gave the bottom wrestler one more free chance to get a reversal after the reset and win the match. On the other hand, if the referee didn't call stalling, our athlete would have won a tight match by keeping the athlete on bottom. Not to mention the athlete on bottom was not warned, though he couldn't get up for nearly 5 minutes. Stalling needs to be more precise on how it is called, interpreted, and in which times it is necessary. Officials put themselves in the match when they calling stalling in these specific situations. Let the wrestlers decide.

Apparently, Ohtani is deferring his salary and only taking 2 million a year so the Dodgers can keep spending.  I guess that means he gets the rest at the end of the ten years.  Maybe you could negotiate a contract like that, coach. 🤷‍♂️

Greenfield Central hasn’t wrestled a single dual with their full lineup yet. Being banged up is an unfortunate part of the sport we all have to deal with. Hopefully the powers that be let 12 in, and we all get healed up so we can scrap to our full potential.
