Dwilly reacted to Cmoney125 in I am tired of the hypocrisy
While I don't agree with any of this situation. My son is that "South Carolina" kid. I did everything right. It took until Dec 23rd for him to get eligible. Sorry for moving my family back to where I grew up because I'm retiring from military service. I don't agree with what happened to Christian, but keep my son out of your grievances.

Dwilly reacted to base in I am tired of the hypocrisy
Without knowing all the background and discussions..
Accepting transfers while at the same time denying a young man and his family from transferring away from your school seems very bush-league. You may hate it in the short term as a coach, but in the end you can never feel too bad letting a young man participate in a sport and your reputation will be better in the long run

Dwilly reacted to battlingbraves in Thank you Keith Mughmaw and Jim Troyer
Two great men that have done a lot for Indiana wrestling!! Truly appreciated having them officiate a lot of our events over my 18 years at Maconaquah! Keith & Jim will be hard to replace.
P.S. If you didn't know both of them are in the Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame & well deserved!

Dwilly reacted to Coach Humble in Thank you Keith Mughmaw and Jim Troyer
I cannot adequately express how much I have enjoyed knowing and watching Jim and Keith work the mats. I first met Keith when he was coaching and then encountered him as a ref and likewise, Jim as a ref. Both these men have always been interested in what’s best for the wrestlers and they conducted themselves in that manner. I have the greatest respect for them.

Dwilly reacted to Galagore in 224 State Qualifiers Can't be Together?!
Pure speculation, but if I were them, I would rather make a statement like that now, then back off of it later than say nothing now and have to impose it later. May just be hedging their bets.

Dwilly reacted to Galagore in Possibility of no fans at both semi state and state?
Love you, Joe, but I stopped reading after the sentence in bold. That is the beginning and end. We are very fortunate to be wrestling in a state series at all.

Dwilly reacted to Y2CJ41 in Possibility of no fans at both semi state and state?
First off we have to be very thankful we are having a season. It doesn't look promising for the states that have moved their seasons and we are extremely lucky here. I wasn't sure we would get through a month of the football season. I wasn't sure we would get through a month of the wrestling season, but here we are.
We all want fans at our events to cheer on the kids. This year has been really weird without fans in the stands. Last night was our first home meet with fans and it felt different and nice to have to people yelling and screaming.
With everything else going on in this world our kids having wrestling is even more important. Be appreciative of the efforts of the administrations from the IHSAA to local schools for working with us during this time. Our kids are having a season and it is looks good that we will complete it. That is something many states may not be able to say.

I hope we can get through the season, but the thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it.

Leave it up to the wrestler, let them do whatever they need to get themselves ready.

Dwilly reacted to Thor in Rankings Update Fort Wayne #1
I’m gonna stir the pot and say I’m taking Stroud today, next week, Valentines Day and Cinco de Mayo. I’ve seen both of them wrestle, and Stroud impressed me more. And get outta here with 8th at a higher weight. That’s a 6lb difference, and I would say 126 was a better weight.

How does it make him worse? I think both guys are studs and 2,3 isn't a huge snub to either guy.

Shelton

So: 27-9 regional Q

Dwilly reacted to Ahawkeye in James Brimm - Looking for contact information
I wouldn't call Brimm a person who never had any discipline in his life, He went to Evansville Central and I went to Mater Dei. He had some on the mat antics that we didn't like, as a rivalry we didn't like each other but before high school his step father James Shannon would hold weekly or bi-weekly work outs and was a heck of a motivator in the room. James was always soft spoken and celebrated other peoples victories. His Step Father James was always in his corner, always encouraging others.
Now keep in mind I'm an ooooooollllllldddddd Mater Dei guy who bleeds red and gold Coach Goebel was my top motivator but I would watch Jim Shannon run a practice and he got a lot out of you. My point is, even with the rivalry between the two schools and with age and maturity I've realized that most of my former competitors were just kids like me who wanted to win and loved their schools. I don't agree with the MSU article saying that James didn't have any discipline in this life I think it is incorrect. From what I saw in my very short time with James and Jim Shannon there was plenty of discipline and direction. On the other hand as stated I wasn't around him very much just practices and tournaments there could have been a lot to the story that I'm unaware of.
"I thought I had had no impact on this kid at all," he says. "But he said he just had to come back and say thank you for the direction and the discipline he got because he never had that in his life and it meant to the world to him. Then, he hugged me.

Did some googling and found this cool story...
https://msuspartans.com/news/2016/1/29/with_final_home_dual_approaching_minkel_looks_back_on_his_career.aspx
...matching it up to a LinkedIn profile...it looks like he's in Bahrain.
I wonder if he's still sporting the Mike Tyson towel-as-a-shirt look.

Dwilly reacted to tefakes in Matside weigh-ins
We can, and should expect kids to be able to weigh in moments before they wrestle. They should be adequately hydrated before competition and if we really are concerned about weight loss practices, mat side weighing may be a way to enforce better weight management issues.
-
Dwilly reacted to tefakes in Matside weigh-ins
Yes, as opposed to having all the wrestlers gathered in the same locker room.
For a duel meet, wrestlers weigh at the score table as they check in. For a multi-duel or tournament, weigh ins could be conducted as normal.

Do you understand how lucky Indiana wrestling was to have a state championship this February? Many other sports were not able to finish their season and now will not get to compete this year either. Stop pouting

Dwilly reacted to Mattyb in Hoosier Preseason Open
The ones that suffer are the good kids that drop an early match. Those kids have to wrestle about every 15 or 20 mins to hit the podium. That’s tough!!!
With that said... it kinda works like that at the ISWA states now too. Gotta get it done early!

Dwilly reacted to Katanakahn in Hoosier Preseason Open
I'm the parent of a wrestler than plans to be there.
As much as I LOVE to watch my sons wrestle, I would be more than willing to stay out if that helps the kids wrestle.
And that goes for the entire IHSAA season as well. If that's what it takes to pull this off, make it so.
We like to say (think) it's about the kids. Time to live up to that if needed
I so want to be there, I've maybe missed two matches ever, but this is about him, not me.
