Hate to come off like a broken record, as I mentioned this last week.... but I detest the idea that 3rd, 5th and 7th Place matches are so unimportant that they cut short the 1st period.
it's not like this tournament has full wrestlebacks and time is at a major premium. Let the damned kids wrestle a full match as if it means something!
Congratulations to Elijah Anthony of Frankfort. After 3 years of being a qualifier he finally got it done as a senior so happy for him tought match against Brady Ison, but Elijah was determined and never let his foot off the gas!
Look's like we should petition for next year to be a normal Friday night again. This has been a mess. The Friday morning has been really inconvenient for some parents & fans to even make it there. Those kids deserve a hype and packed crowd too. Just my thoughts.
There isn't a SINGLE wrestler in the state that wants to compete at a different time than their teammates. We have three wrestlers in session 1, one wrestler in session 2. You're telling me that our wrestler in session 2 wants to do a parade of champions and compete in a session by himself??? Crazy.
Everyone needs to call. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Just told my middle schoolers that they can’t go. That’s tough.
Another parent just got on Ticketmaster to see how many girls state finals basketball tickets that they can buy and they could buy as many as they wanted… go figure.
I’m just gonna go to Ohio to watch my kid wrestle. Good luck. I tried…. I’m over it!
UPDATE…
Just called back @ 4:50.. they said they lifted the 4 seat limit. To be honest… nobody knows much at the field house or at IHSAA. Just gonna have to figure it out ourselves. Please keep any information coming on this thread. Again.. I’m trying.
Overall
The rankings have been a staple of IndianaMat since day one. We have always prided ourselves in having accurate rankings throughout the season. This year Mike upped his game and went to 20 ranked wrestlers in November and December. Then in January upped it to the top 25. With 25 ranked wrestlers he was able to include a lot of what was previously on our watch list. This gave recognition to many more hard-working athletes. As with last year, there was quite a bit of uncertainty surrounding the season and we have made it this far with the rankings continuing to hold strong.
As always, we locked the rankings before sectional and let them ride. We do not update them based on draws or state series victories. This year Mike has outdone himself with 190 of the 224 wrestlers being ranked. For the first time ever, we had a perfect weight class! At 152lbs every state qualifier was ranked in the state. Another first this year is there are no Friday matches that do not include at least one ranked wrestler. In total, 78 of the 112 matches on Friday are between two ranked wrestlers.
We have our every popular brackets that are new and improved that include state and semi-state rankings in them. This year we have two sets, one with just state rankings and one with both semi-state and state rankings.

There are 25 ranked wrestlers per each weight class; if all SS's were evenly weighted they would average 6.25 ranked wrestlers per weight. Based on historical data, the rankings are incredibly accurate, an assumption can be made from the #'s which weights are going to be the toughest at each SS.

Ok, great. The precedent has been to use the new IHSAA numbers in a re-classification year. I didn't realize it had been announced. We'll redo it with DOE numbers provisionally, and make it official once IHSAA numbers are out. Thanks for the help, guys.
Hey, guys, we got a late start on Team State qualification data collection this year, and sectional week is always the super-sized week because we're publishing procedures, figuring out classification, and tracking results for 4,300 athletes or forfeits.
Anyway, we're behind.
We have all the data for procedures, sectional/regional categories, and classification, so we'll publish that for all of you asap--then a leaderboard by Thursday later in the day or Friday morning.
So as the tournament approaches, and the topic of this discussion, I got excited and found this video of the most exhilarating 10 seconds of my adult life. I still yell at the screen to LIFT THE HEAD!!! 😆
