Jade McCammon of Sullivan and Hunter Hughes of Jeffersonville have to be near the top of the list.

    Craig Macke - 4,2,2,3
Freshman - lost to Gerardo Quiroz (runner up) and Thaddeus Douglas (2x fargo AA in Greco) in the 3rd place match
Sophomore - lost to Aaron Clark (1,5,4) and is Franklin Community's all time wins leader.  Macke beat him a week later at team state.  Pinned Nick Hartman in the first period.  Hartman would be a state champ the next season
Jr - lost to Angel in the finals, beat Nick May (2,3,6) in the semis
Sr - lost to Angel in the semis.  Also lost a close match to Dustin Schlatter in a dual with St. Paris Graham

The gap between Crown Point and Brownsburg/Center Grove is not that big, was my initial point.    In the early 2000's the gap between Mater Dei and the rest of Indiana wasn't even close in a dual format.   And in 2003 tournament format wasn't close either.

In a time and era without Academies, clubs and kids moving around to wrestle for the best programs possible, they built and developed a machine that dominated this state for a decade and did it in a school with 500 students.

Crown Point is an incredible team and program, as are Brownsburg and Center Grove.  All are probably better than MD was back then.... Everything is better in 2023- nutrition is better, medical care for athletes is better, the overall wrestling product is better today than it was 20 years ago.   But the level of dominance over the field now vs. what they did back then is not comparable.

What's scary about this Crown Point team was that they weren't at full strength come tournament time.
    132- Hawkins would have placed.
    152- Rhinehart would have placed.

The difference in the old Mater Dei teams that I would consider is how Mater Dei, contrary to everyones belief, had Mater Dei kids on the team. CP has kids from other schools. I won't say the dreaded R word because now it's open enrollment and kids can go wherever they choose.

If you are talking about a pure home based Indiana team, it's 2003 Mater Dei. If you are talking about the best team in Indiana history, it's 2022 or 2023 Crown Point.

Both are fantastic and have been fun to watch.  Just my opinion but I tend to lean towards Mater Dei based on how far ahead they were of everyone else in Indiana at the time.   The gap between the top 3/4 is not that great currently IMO.

Gunner Henry has put together two the best campaigns for a light heavy and he is not mentioned enough.  To put things in perspective. His trajectory is on par with Shawn Streck.  His only loses at State are to Orlando Cruz and John Purdy. They graduate.  He has 2 thirds as a light heavy.  He should be nationally ranked I already complained to Flo.

    R. Kendrick reacted to Holden in State qualifiers by Team State Teams
First, I want say that I love reading the stats you all break down.  They are fun and interesting to see.  However, I want to add a stat that I find interesting also.  While Greenfield had no state qualifiers this year, we won Connersville for the first time ever, placed 3rd at team state (we had never been) and won the HHC for the third straight year (first time in school history).  The HHC includes very tough teams such as New Pal (2 qualifiers), New Castle (3), Mt Vernon (3), Delta (4), Yorktown (1) and Pendleton (1).  I'm not sure many teams have had that kind of success with no state qualifiers.  And, while I am very disappointed that we didn't have a state qualifier, I am extremely proud of my team.  They are just that, a team.  No way we do the things we did this year without these kids wrestling for each other.  I am a proud coach!

The simple answer is "the fans" win.  All of state is exciting to watch, but it's going to be a barn-burner from the quarter-final through finals at this weight class.
