Great job again Mike and also to the Semistate ranking gurus -- as a fan, we eat this stuff up.  I already want to see rankings for next year just to have something to talk about!

I voted Mason Parris and here is why. 
 
Best at high school career. 
High school state finals results-
Mason- 11 pins 3 major decisions 
three state titles and a third place
 
brayton lee- 7 tech falls  1 pin  1 md and 3 decisions  
three state titles  
 
Best high school career- easily Mason Parris  
 
best at non high school career- easily Brayton Lee  
 

Lee focused more on wrestling during the off season. Thus, he has more credentials. 
Parris played football on a state runner up team. That requires a lot of off season work as wel. Mason didn’t focus on year round wrestling, thus, he has less credentials. 
 
Mason Parris dominated at heavy weight which is more impressive than lee dominating at a lower weight. 
 
I just dont don’t think you can compare the two in their high school careers. And I mean just high school ihsaa affiliates matches, not freestyle etc. 

Maybe I am wrong but given this is the Indiana HS forum, I assumed we were talking HS career.

I think there was another Lee in that weight class would've had some say in him being a 4 timer

I think you are exactly right Mason had the 3rd place finish as a freshman to where Lee was beat it the ticket round to a dang good kid in Austin Bethal but that is the difference. Mason and Lee are both deserving of the award but Mason has the edge!!! 

My vote would go to Parris.  Three sport athlete, three state titles and a 3rd, record for most career falls in the state tournament, #1 ranked nationally.  Hard to argue against Lee, but he missed state his freshman year and is a one-sport specialist.  That's about the only difference between his and Mason's resume.

I agree both were not good calls.

In what was the most difficult decision this committee has ever made we decided to award Brayton Lee the Inaugural Brennan Cosgrove Trophy. It came down to two contenders, Brayton Lee and Mason Parris. 
The first criteria is which Wrestler is from the Region. 
Unfortunately neither wrestler is from the Region. 
The next criteria is which wrestler was most technical. Both demonstrated amazing technique but we all decided that Brayton was superior to Mason in regards to his skills. Congrats to Brayton for winning this award. 

1.) Congrats to Cathedral.  I’m not sure anyone who hasn’t been through it truly understands how hard it is to win an Individual State Title let alone a Team State Championship. 
2.) I didn’t cuss or anything like that.  I was booted and deserved to be because I left the mat and came back screaming again.  I was told that by Mr. Faulkens.  
3.)  I know I shouldn’t have come back on the mat.  Thanks to him for allowing me to stay in back of venue.  I lost it and would hope I could keep my compusure in the future.  I’ve never been tossed out before that I remember.  I deserved it.  I’ve already told my assistants to pull me from the mat.  I don’t see this situation repeating itself, though   
4.) I am not ever going to sacrifice a kid’s dream of a state title.  Brayton Lee is the ONLY kid I have ever coached that I told I must have bonus points from at Individual State.  Probably the first and last.  He’s special. I never worried about my actions causing a team title.  We are a family here.  I was able to meet with my team since Mr. Faulkens allowed me To stay in the venue.  I told them I was sorry I was unable to corner them.  (FYI I don’t corner BLee.  Ayersman negotiated that.)  Lol.  Immediately, Nathan Walton said, “Coach you have prepared us and we would want you to do the same thing for each of us.”
5.) I was out of control and returned to the mat after waking off.  That equals getting tossed.  I have no issue with it.  Most people hate me.  That fuels me and our program.  I have enough friends and I’m not looking to win a popularity contest.  As long as the Mishawaka And Brownsburg Wrestlers and fans love me that’s what I care about. Talk to them.  I have 100% administrative support here, which I have never had before.  
6.) Why did I lose it even though i shouldn’t have?  It is NOT an opinion or judgement call.  In the casebook - look it up - it literally says the front-headlock position is a stalemate. It’s cut and dry. Not debatable.  It was the wrong call.  Period.  Doesn’t matter if we were snapping or trying to score.  Makes no difference.  Says stalemate.  Watch the film. Blake is my guy.  He is facing me in 30 second OT. Im snapping to mat.  He does exactly what I tell him to do.  I know the rules.  Then, it costs him a chance for his state title.  I care about my wrestlers.  Our system is messed up.  I could not care less about a team title then.  I care about Blake and his goal.  If he and they win, we win.
7.) It is what it is.  Cathedral was freaking impressive. Blake’s opponent is a stud and seems like an outstanding young man. Just like Blake.   
I probably shouldn’t post, but I will. Discussing wrestling I think is good for our sport and my thoughts are always open for anyone.

Wow just watched the match again. Mulkey literally just brought him to the mat. So he even improved his position what an awful call

As the finals have concluded, I'd like to thank all the wrestlers that participated this year and entertained us fans. Congratulations to this years Champs. Also want to thank the guys doing this site. Your rankings and info is top notch. To the Seniors, I wish you the best in your next journey. Hell of a season gents. 

Should of been a stalemate Mulkey got screwed

Yea bad call Fattore who was obviously the better wrestler just got screwed. Im watching on track and a defensive pin has never been called that fast and his shoulders were not flat on the mat lol.

Would you call that in the first period when a kid is riding out a 0-0 score? The situation or score doesn’t dictate when or how stalling should be called. If it’s stalling with :15 left in overtime, then it’s stalling in the first :30 seconds of the first period.  It wasn’t stalling...it’s a stalemate.  The same call he used in that situation multiple times in that match. 

So what happens to the official for the poor call? At :22sec, Mulkey had a front head lock and was snapping it to the mat. Why call stalling at 3-4 seconds left when the hold never changed? Call it at :22 or :15 or :10.if you are going to call it.  Don’t wait to call and insert yourself in the match. Best call there was a stalemate...neither could improve.  Called stalemate every other front head in the match. I also get tired of seeing Faulkens insert himself at matside.  2x this weekend so far.  You want to be there and make decisions at mat side, then pull the officials aside as well and make sure you tell them they screwed up as well. Seeing too many matches decided by the officials in the last 2-3 weeks.  And no, I won’t sign up to become an official...just do it right. 

His hand fighting and neutral game is unreal! Can't wait to see him on the next level. But that whole emphasizing the back breaker at the end of the match twice and then making Washington shake his hand is ridiculous... im all for kids shaking the opponents hand at the end of the match but if Portage is going to be penalized a team point or anything then Brownsburg should be penalized as well I mean Brayton did it twice and was really trying to emphasize it can't expect Washington to shake his hand after that.

You should be proud! Your son is a stud and unfortunately he a bad match when it mattered. I will be pulling for him the next 2 years that's for sure... I would of loved to have seen him vs Warren this year. Also it seemed like every scramble went Mahan's way... not taking anything from Mahan he is also a stud and capitalized but couldn't believe how the scrambles went during that match. 

Yea... that was a tough one! Proud of my guy had a solid run. Just wrestled a bad match. Mahan did great. Back to the drawing board and practice on Monday! Good luck to all the placers!
