I looked it up. Lee had a close match with Kasper McIntosh his junior year, then beat Aiden Warren 16-8 and beat an out of state guy by one his senior year.

You're right. The out of state guy was from Detroit at a holiday tourney and was also nationally ranked.  And I just meant last season, not his career.

I believe La Lumiere chooses not to be associated with the IHSAA so they are free to travel and play a national schedule

Thanks for the clarification.  Makes sense.

Side note...the 300 mile rule the IHSAA refuses to come off of is really dumb too.  LOL.

Ohio along with their other two big name freshman.

Here is a link to Culver’s current roster. It’s a pretty solid school so they are able to pull some kids from all over the Midwest (and a few other far off places) who want a military style boarding school experience.

    https://www.culver.org/athletics/team-pages/wrestling

And this is why it's ridiculous that they get to compete in the IHSAA State Finals.  Nothing against these kids, or really against Culver as they don't make the rules, but how they do it in most other states is how it should be done.

If you're not a public school designated by a geographical area, then you get your own tournament.

And honestly I don't know what the difference is between Culver and La Lumiere as far as how they are set up (obviously they are much different schools...I just mean in how they are classified).  They are a live-in school that draws kids from across the nation and world.  La Lumiere is not allowed to compete for a basketball state championship, probably because basketball fans would lose their minds to have their kids playing a team recruited from all over.

And yes, I'm throwing some stones at the rest of the parochials with my 2nd paragraph.  I now live in Texas.  They do it right...if you're a private school you get your own league and your own tournament.  Simply because it's 2 different sets of rules.

  4. Track in general has been totally hosed.  Trying to "watch" down here in Texas and lots of issues.  Currently frozen now right after Allred pinned Nunn.  Mat 3 still not operational on the normal Track, not TrackCast.

Like most people on here you’ll get what I’m saying later when you think about it and look at the big picture as a hole for #TheCounty. May not be today, tomorrow, years from now but eventually you’ll be like man.... This guy made a difference in Wrestling. Heck, I see it now .

    The Notorious

I also didn't know that Contenders and Coach Parrish were the only academy...someone may be confused as Contenders is in Bburg and some other joint called Red Cobra is in Avon.

To @MattyB point...I cheer for all these kids because I see how hard they work all year long.  I'm a Bburg guy through and through but will root on Brewer because I see what he's doing in July when it's 100+ degrees in the sweat-box behind the Thai Restaurant off of Rockville Road.  I root for Asa because he has no fear of getting together with other county guys and making each other better.  He puts in time doing teaching to the little guys in Snyder's room...because what's good for the sport is good for all and we like to continue to grow what we're doing in #TheCounty.

We recently moved, and one of the biggest things I hate is not seeing these kids get after it daily at RC or Contenders.  #TheCounty is strong.  We truly do pull for each other.  I believe it was Jaden Reynolds that said it best...all this rivalry stuff is kinda silly.  We've all been wrestling together since we were little and we all work together all year long.  So we're all friends.

    Haters gon hate.

My vote for most dominating performance goes to Silas Allred. He pinned everyone, with the longest match going about a minute and a half. Wow

Brewer from Avon deserves some mention...dominating day for him.  And Asa being Asa.

As well as Aiken who 1st period pinned his way to the finals then defeated the #1 dude in the semi-state.

    Hashtag TheCounty Biz*&#!  🙂

It is very hard to believe but this is Doane's first year on the high school team. He just did the freestyle/greco until now.

Wow.  That's pretty incredible...and I'd say unusual!  Down here in Texas where we just moved if we want to do any freestyle / greco then we have to travel for 3 hours.

Of course, in Texas 3 hours away is "Right Next Door".

    Pick’em Weight

Teams with the most going to State:

    Avon- 9

    Brownsburg- 9

    EMD- 7

    CE- 5

    The Notorious

Only 1 I can argue with (160), and it was as good of a draw for Ison as could have hoped.  He's skilled enough to have a day and sneak his way into the Bank...so he's on my bracket buster list there.

Brownsburg got it done again. Those dudes win every close match. Would love to see Avon win. With that said, I can not express how much respect I have for what my neighbors do week in and week out. Super impressive!

Brew-dog you're a good egg.  And I enjoy watching our friends to the south each week as well...even if I'm now watching the cartoon characters wrestle in one of 3 different positions on Track.

  10. The Burg advancing all 14 at the loaded Mooresville Regional is a heckuva accomplishment.  With 6 champs.

And holy crap the 132 weight class with Asa, Boe, and Campbell is stupid good.  Those 3 have a great chance of all placing at The Bank.  The fact they all are in same sectional is ridiculous for them, but a lot of fun for us fans.  I enjoy watching all 3 of those kids wrestle.

    Hey Uncle Jimmy!

Ok here goes my thoughts on this and I’ll try my best to stick to what I KNOW as fact from my time with Coach P and Carmel Wrestling as best I can.

First, please know I’m not in anyone’s inner circle and like Coach Vega said, I do not know any of the details other than what has been made public. I love wrestling and I love Carmel wrestling although I haven’t gotten to be part of it lately as much as I’d like. I’ve been to war WITH Coach P and FOR Coach P and I’m not going to abandon him now just cuz things are a little uncomfortable. Can he be a little stubborn? Yes. Can he be a little disorganized? YES. Can communication be a little frustrating with him from time to time? Hell yes! Can his shirt be a little too small as if it was his daughters before she outgrew it? Yes!!! Is he a cheater? NO! Not during my time there and I find it hard to believe that in the last three years that’s changed. Honestly, from my personal perspective the story doesn’t add up the way it’s being reported. When Clown Baby Jr. wrestled there, I asked specifically about sauna suits because I saw so many wrestlers using them in different programs and had no idea they were illegal. It’s something you can buy at Bloomingdales right off the shelf so why would I? You’d a thought I just walked across freshly disinfected wrestling mats with street shoes on. I was told absolutely not to put CBJ in one and not to bring it up again especially in front of parents who may be inclined to use them.

I hate that this is happening right before the state tournament starts, it’s terrible timing not that there is a perfect time for it to happen. I would make a plea to anyone calling for the wrestlers involved to be disqualified from the state series to think about what happened to those kids last week in Washington DC. They’re kids and the punishment doesn’t fit the crime. Also, it could easily be your kid or program going through this and I for one promise you I would feel the same as I do now and I would stand up for them too. Even if said kid was in CBJ’s weight class.

I want to add also to what Coach Vega said about dealing with parents. I’m just going to put this out there, sometimes us parents can be huge assholes and very difficult to deal with. Unfortunately there’s a few who may be surprised to hear it and if so, you’re probably one of them. Can you imagine being a wrestling coach at any high school these days and dealing with the parents, the AD and the wrestlers and doing it for what they get paid? I’m out of line now but I’ll just say it takes a very special breed to do it and I appreciate every one of them.

Wrestling Scholar - Where are you drinking in Carmel for only $20 a pop? I shudder at the idea, you should be drinking at least $40 drinks here. Is it black market basement booze? Never mind, I’ll have to take you out for a good $65 top shelf drink sometime. You too Uncle Jimmy.

Where is there a Bloomingdale's??  Is it some sort of secret underground club under the Monon that you have to knock 3 times, show your Rolex, and whisper "sauna suits" to get in?

  12. I posted this on another thread on Facebook recently, but we are wrestling newbies as a family.  One thing I have never understood is the entire weigh-in process to begin with, moreso from an efficiency standpoint than any other reason...but if the sport was really serious about weight programs then this solution I thought about makes sense.

If I ruled the world then everyone would weigh in mat-side.  Have one of those old school scales set to the proper weight for that mat.  Have each wrestler step on the scale when they are on-deck.  If the scale goes to the fatso side (the side I am most familiar with) then sorry, you forfeit.  If it stays on the skinny side, then get ready to wrestle.

All the sudden the self-policing and wrestling at actual weight would become a lot more serious if not making weight EACH match was a concern.  If kids had to cut and keep it off all tournament long then they would either wrestle like crap or feel awful, both of which should be de-motivators.

But I know, I know..."THAT'S NOT HOW I DID IT!  I WORE A SUIT UNDER A TRASH BAG WITH MY MULLET TUCKED IN THE BACK IN THE 80S AND I WAS TOUGH BECAUSE OF IT!!"  I get it.

Just seems like this scenario takes all gamesmanship out of it.  I also realize it will never be adopted ever.  Which has told me that any "guidelines" are moreso to satisfy lawyers than something most actual wrestling folks actually care about.

Stud... talk about a kid that puts in the work! Silent killer.

If you get a chance talk to his grampa... one of the best dudes around.

    I second this enthusiastically.

Pretty sure that the topic of adoption came up a few times at Conleys house while we watched our state finals with a 2 time world champ from Russia (Teamers coach). That dude was insanely awesome!! Very cool stuff. Thanks for allowing us to help out. It was a cool deal.

It was awesome.  All the talk is in good fun...always good to hang out with our friends to the south and glad we could all come together and make it happen!

but we kept em off the mat..and then rigourously scrubbed it clean lol

Fabio I'm not sure if you saw the emails, but the parents of the poor Team USA kids that had to stay in Avon have complained VERY loudly to Joe.

"We thought our kids were going to be staying in Brownsburg!  If someone would have told us our kids would have had to go to Avon we would have never allowed them to participate."  :D

Between the whole weigh-in controversy and this, I'm surprised we were able to have the event at all.

  16. So I’m one of the #PainTrain families lucky enough to host two of the Team USA kids. Side note, what an awesome group of young men on both sides.  Was a blessing to spend time with great young people.

But my kid I’m hosting just said (In between games of Fortnight) “Man!  I knew about Mason and Brayton of course...but your Indiana dudes brought it and that was really impressive.  And what an awesome atmosphere and such a fun dual...I’m so happy I came to this!”

Our State did just fine tonight.

  17. Excellent point...and I know little about wrestling but I do know coaching, and I have been incredibly impressed by some of these high school kids I've seen teaching technique to a room of 50+ of their peers.  That is not an easy thing to do for anyone, let alone someone that is under 20 years old!

The future for Indiana is very very bright as I expect these kids teaching the sport now to continue to give back in the future.

Going to be a blast in the BRAND NEW ROOM! come train and learn from a slightly mediocre Kyle Ayersman who won 3 state titles in indiana and placed 3rd once(to be fair though he wrestled babies)

Real talk one of the best Indiana wrestlers in recent history. Train in WORLD CLASS facilities Ill tell ya this would qualify us for a Senior Level RTC between the rooms and high quality fo partners. Plus ill be there so we can hang out

So Ayersman has everyone beating his drum and he's no longer good enough to do the RWO posts on IndianaMat?  Both posting and teaching too much?

I'm just glad this board is fully anonymous so he'll (or Fabio or Snyder) will never know who posted this smack talk.  But opening up the new room is going to be awesome.
