Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of talent in this Regional, but the talent of some of the 3rd and 4th place finishers in the Sectional compared to years past are night and day different.

Very surprising that this is not a topic yet, this use to be one of the most talked about Regionals in the State.
I'll throw out some predictions maybe to get some conversation going....
106: Freeman, Newman, West, Amento.....Newman vs West will be a good one, but don't think any of them can top Freeman.
113: Ross, Sutton, Kendall, Boyd....I think Kendall could pull the upset over Sutton, but nobody challenges Ross.
120: Boarman, Scott, Casebolt, Wueth....no really good matches here, Scott is tough, but I don't think he has what it takes to hang with Boarman.
126: Egli, Amento, Overton, Hunt...Amento vs Overton can go either way, I like Amento though in this one.
132: Egli, Heeke, Polen, Martin...Martin has came on strong as of late with wins over Heeke (PAC) and Polen (Sectionals), but I'll take Heeke and Polen this time around.
138: Mayer, McNeely, Wellmeier, Morgan...could be our first sweep of the sectional top 4, lot of good first round matchups that can go either way.
145: Lee, Fulks, Bryant, Hartz...Fulks is having a great season, but still don't think its enough to compete with Lee.
152: Dickens, Dilbeck, Rodriguez, Conner...Dickens runs away with it.
160: Deters, Sollars, Singleton, Schmidt...Top 3 could go anyway.
170: Parkinson, Martin, Hoover, Willman...nobody challenges Parkinson, but another Central Sectional sweep is very possible.
182: Rodgers, Kemper, Moore, Willman...another weight that any of the Top 4 could win it. Will Willman be healthy enough?
195: Nunn, McGennis, Carrier, McGrew...McGennis wins two tight matches last week, but don't think he has what it takes to knock off Nunn.
220: Stewart, Robison, Hirsch, Buck...Stewart vs Robison will be a good one.
285: Brievogel, Rea, Wimpelberg, Combs...Wimpelberg could be a spoiler here.

Agree, it could have been 5-3 with a late scramble that made it 7-3.  I was just pointing out that the adage of "it is tough to beat someone 3 times" doesn't apply in many circumstances according to stats sites and/or Vegas betting lines.

Maybe his weight loss plan didn't allow him to make scratch at 145 until this late in the season, and if he couldn't beat his teammate at 152, he would have to bump to 160 to make the lineup. Just a possibility.

Thanks. I’m a second year parent in high school wrestling and just trying to educate myself on the technical aspect of wrestling, seeding, brackets, and this whole weight rules and seeding criteria from IHSAA. Appreciate it!

After a quick look the common opponents criteria gets just as hairy especially because two of the wrestlers are in the same conference and wrestle MANY same opponents. It looks like that becomes another round robin there. If my calculations are correct it becomes A over C(who defeated him), B over C(who defeated him), and C over A(who defeated him). Basically, in my 15 years of coaching you go to record and one kid had about 5 or 6 less losses so he "deserves" the highest possible seed.
However, not arguing that as my whole point is the seed shouldn't be determined by the head to head criteria based on seeing a kid multiple times.

Cummings is one awesome young man. I will tell you a story in my first encounter with him. My son decided he wanted to wrestle and after not winning a spot in 7th grade and wreslting part time during the season. One of his friends who was really good told him to come out to RWA and train after the season. My son was out of shape (just like me ) and we didn't push him into anything unless he asked. He hadn't asked till he was 12. I sign him up for RWA and he is having a really hard time - one day about a month after we were going a young man comes over to my son and works with him and talks to him. Tells him don't give up and you can improve and encourages him all practice. That young man was Colton - I didn't know him or his family and his dad also encouraged my son that night. My son stuck with it that summer and went back and won a spot as an 8th grader. This year as a sophomore he went to regionals out of a tough sectional - he wrestled 120 for 3 years if that tells you how out of shape he was. This year he jumped up with growth. Without Cummings and young men like him my son might have given up. It's that type of character this sport builds and win or lose this weekend that kid is one awesome young man

I'm not saying "work harder" at all. You guys are stating that 1A individuals have a low percentage of making it to the state finals correct?? So, what is the difference between a 3A individual and a 1A individual??? All individuals have the same opportunities to improve in the off season regardless of school size. If that 1A individual wants to get better then they have the same opportunity to get in the big time club rooms, go to the big time camps, seek out better workout partners in there area, etc. as do the 3A individuals.

Never once did I say he came from a small school I said "from a po-dunk school in the middle of a corn field," which Gibson Southern very much so is.
I will make you a deal Y2! I will ardently support class wrestling in every way possible if you agree to step down as a moderator! Deal?

I am in between on this, I see both sides to the argument. One point I would like to make is that regardless of school size, each individual has the same opportunities as everybody throughout the state. Just because you are from a 1A school doesn't mean as an individual you can't go seek out better training, camps, workout partners, etc in the off-season to get better, and the same for an individual from a 3A school can do the same. Now yes during the season the 1A individual may suffer more due to the lack of practice partners in the room, but if that individual puts in the time in the off season seeking out the best available help then it shouldn't matter. Last time I checked, being from the south I don't think Maurer Coughlin club is going to turn away some kid just because he is from a 1A school. I really like the way the system is now, one champion for each weight.

Indiana is one of the few states that continues to hold the state tournament series without classes, and I believe this is fantastic for the sport. As a recent graduate, I easily recall that there was no greater motivator than the dream to wrestle under the spotlight in front of thousands of people. Most people fail to see the fact that small schools are not the only victims here. For example, Evansville Harrison has several thousand students and has only qualified one wrestler for state in the past seven years. The current method for individual state has worked since the 1940's, so why change it now? I think the real problem here comes down to schools just not being "wrestling schools." The fact of the matter is that some schools invest more money into one athletic program than another and sometimes minimal money into any athletic facilities. At the end of the day, class wrestling would force two or three wrestlers in each class to wrestle against fourteen other mediocre to average wrestlers instead of sixteen of the best athletes in the state duking it out in the pursuit of the ultimate prize. This system is better for the fans, better for the sport, and better for the athletes.
