My claim to fame...I held DelRay Brooks to 18 points... in the first qtr ...of a freshman game. I then knew baseball was my path.

With Indiana having all of these great head coaches... who are some top notch assistants that are behind then scene and help build these programs?
-
Westforkwhite reacted to Darrick Snyder in In the corner
I just wanted to add I could not be more thankful and appreciative of my staff. I have incredible administrative support so we have several coaches in the building and at middle schools. Several of my assistants have been offered multiple head coaching jobs, but have stayed with us. So thankful to have them.
My coaches who aren’t teachers are freaking incredible. They are literally losing several thousands of dollars to not run their business or cut their hours to coach wrestling. Often they will work in a 12 hour work day to allow them to be at future practice and/or a tournament.

I completely agree with this! We saw them at nearly every offseason tournament. I coached a high rollers team this summer and even when they weren’t coaching they were there supporting their kids. They have built some pretty tough wrestlers there and great kids as well. Every single one that wrestled for us approached me and said hi this weekend at Mooresville. Keep up the great work down there you guys are doing awesome!

Westforkwhite reacted to Dave Cloud in Thanks, Coach Peck
Apologies if I have missed a post on this already on the board.
As you already know, Coach Rex Peckinpaugh has announced his retirement as head coach of the New Castle Trojans. I will not attempt to summarize his statement since it, like everything Rex does, was so well done. Check it out on Facebook. Rex thought long and hard about his decision and I am confident he has done the best thing, like always. Reading the posts from past Trojan wrestlers and friends of the program was like taking a walk back through time. Seeing the names with the posts sparked a lot of fond memories (except for when we wrestled them). Rex has been a leader and influential voice in Indiana high school wrestling so long that it is difficult to remember when he wasn't a force or to envision a future without him in that role. The good news is that Rex has no intention of disappearing. I'm sure we will see him at events and continue to enjoy his company.
Thanks, Rex for all you have done to raise the profile of the sport in Indiana. The stats are truly amazing: Over 1000 dual meet wins, a win streak of over 100, dozens and dozens of state finalists, team runners-up in some epic matches and helping to host an awesome Semi-State, freestyle tournaments and Middle School State.
But more than that, thanks for being such a great friend, rival and role model for how to treat athletes. There simply are no better people in the sport than the New Castle Wrestling Family.

Westforkwhite reacted to Sig40 in Mendez Gold at Pan Am's Greco-Roman
This is true there is only 1 wrestler per weight for both styles. Sunday will be the freestyle portion. If anyone wants to watch, wrestling begins at 11:30 central time and then finals at 6pm. To watch go on Facebook and look up 2019 Team USA Cadet Pan Am Team group. There is a mom that goes live with all the matches, plus you can watch today’s matches.
Thank you to all wrestling families that donated and helped give Jesse this opportunity. We had families from all corners of Indiana help in some way. Also thank you to all the coaches that passed on some of their wrestling knowledge to my guy.

He was already a stud, but what a break out year he has has in the national level this year. And now showing his internationally ability too. Way to keep to keep stepping up and pushing yourself rather than be satisfied with the clout he already had.
If I recall correctly the US only ended up sending one Cadet representative to PanAm’s to participate in both style. So he still has Freestyle yet to go.

Westforkwhite reacted to maligned in Micic gets silver at European Games
Stevan Micic just picked up a silver medal yesterday representing Serbia at the European Games (continental games in the olympic tradition). All the big European nations brought their best guys, so his weight was very solid. His biggest win was over the European champion and World bronze medalist Atli of Turkey in the quarterfinals. Stevan is very much a medal threat for worlds this year and the Olympics next year.

Westforkwhite got a reaction from B. Alan in US Open - Yianni puts on a show!
I agree about not wanting to be in the position to make that call, but I felt like Zain had reached a point of limited progression. Not that retherford wasn't continuing to work, but it appears Yanni makes it his move. Maybe the other angle shows it differently but from my estimation it was Yanni's points. That's always going to be an issue when so much is dependent on a referees opinion.

Round 2
Miracle going to Worlds 4-0 Velte was a Bronze medal winner last year after topping Kayla in 3 matches. So Kayla is definitely in medal contention with her improved takedown IQ.

Lets add another Hoosier wrestler to this years world team. Sarah’s Hildebrandt makes her 2nd world team with a 8-0 win.
With silver medal last year, Sarah is a medal contender again.

Westforkwhite got a reaction from Powerline in Chad Red
Agreed. Big Tens will be crazy again at 133 and 141 next year. Gross may land at 141, I think he cut a lot at 133. He will be interesting at either weight. Top 5 guys in both weights are 2 TDs better in neutral but his top game is on another level with only Spencer Lee being close. Gross has surely benefited from the 4 point nf as much as anyone, and I don't anticipate that will change much after the year off.

We haven’t seen the best Jesse Mendez yet. He gets better and better each match, that’s scary good. Yes, I believe he will be the best this state has ever had once it’s all said and done!!
