Like I said, wouldn't be surprised if it's just a low attendance year due to location and the concern for getting tickets is moot. But we'll see.

It says the information will be released to the public tomorrow, but if the brackets aren't built, I just checked and they haven't been, all you will see are the participants names when 3:30 comes around and that's it.  You won't see who is wrestling who.  The complete lack of communication about this stuff is baffling.  It's not hard to send out an email to tell people when the brackets will be built.  I've said it before, it really seems as though some people enjoy holding this power over people's heads.

No connection to wrestlers and my father brother and I are making the trip 4.5 hours away. Making it our 24 consecutive year!

Spoke w/ some Evansville peeps yesterday and Evansville is buzzing. The anticipation is that there will be a crazy amount of walk ups. Wrestling is massive in Evansville and the Southwest part of the state. Evansville is 2 hrs and 45 min from Indy, Mt Vernon is over 3 hours, i'm guessing most don't make that drive unless there's a personal connection to state.

I think it's not crazy to say 2-3k fans in that area that don't normally make the the drive will attend this year.

I know of 4 people from my group that aren't going this year, so we only need to find the 1496 others. From all of the complaining on here and Facebook, it seems there might only be about 500 people showing up.

Coach Brobst got a reaction from AlaskanMountie in Sectional Enrollment Discrepancy
Zionsville used to be in the same sectional as Fishers, HSE, Lebanon, Carmel, and Westfield along with Clinton Prairie, Clinton Central, Sheridan, and Frankfort. 2 adjustments ago, they moved Zionsville out to Crawfordsville and they are obviously the farthest West of the teams in that sectional, so I suppose geographically that fits. Why they only sent one of 5 6A schools? Why they sent one at all I assume was to relieve some of the crowdedness between sectionals as they say they like to balance student population size within sectionals that feed the same regional.

Now I'm not Math wizard, but I'm pretty confident that the Frankfort Sectional still has way more student population than the Crawfordsville one. I thought maybe they'd move another one that direction with the  new realignment this year, but they did not.

I am conflicted whether we should be able to allow 16 or 14 entries, but feel if we would allow 2 entries at a weight class that it would be great for our sport.

For simplicity sake, allowing 14 wrestlers with up to 2 per weight will help small schools more than hurt them. That would mean if they have 14 or less wrestlers they would likely be able to enter all of them at sectional. Many times those small teams have a couple JV kids that can't make the lineup due to being blocked by others. They get very limited matches and it is very hard to keep them engaged when they get limited matches. Coaches would be able to dangle the carrot of being able to wrestle at sectional which should help with retention and building their programs.

Obviously this would lead to come interesting discussions at the top schools also. For instance we all know Center Grove has two very talented big guys. Would Swain insert Schott into the lineup and leave someone else at home? As a coach this would mean some uneasy conversations, but would be great for those teams to be able to insert their top 14 guys.

Evansville is not bad. I think we were still home by 7 even with the 3 hour drive

And y’all will be there for semi-state already, should be easy enough

our kids have to take themselves down there to qualify but they all liked it

1.Yea,  instead of using  these soiled  word not be said to the IHSAA, "Wrestlebacks".  We'll use the word "Repechage".  Its more exotic,  mysterious, and interesting.  We could rebrand the whole movement

    2.  "No wrestlebacks" not only make our wrestlers work harder,  the process is much more efficient.  You  only need to wrestle 20 matches per bracket instead of the bloated 29 in a wrestleback bracket.  Thats a 35% savings,    You sell tickets at full price, but give the customers 35% less matches.     That's what you call profitable.   They should apply that to the State football and basketball tournaments.    Just play 2 1/2 quarters in state tournament basketball games,  you get done a lot earlier.   That way,  the basketball teams would have to do a lot more in the 1st quarter because it would count more.  The 1st quarter would be much more exciting.

Maybe the should apply that to track also.  Like in the 100 Meter dash should be the 65 meter dash.   The start of the race would be much more important and  really exciting.  Instead of going to 25 points in state tournament volleyball games, they should  go to 16 points.    Lets play 4 1/2  innings in a state baseball games.  That 1st inning would really be exciting, just like our ticket round.   We could do it to swimming also,   Nobody wants to sit and a watch a full 500 meters.  Lets reduce it by 35%, people would be much more interested in the  325 meters.  Do you want to watch all 18 holes at the state golf tournament?   Get this,   how about 12 holes.   Thats efficient and exciting.   Gymnastics has too many apparatus also,  lets cut out the uneven bars and give them one vault instead of two.  Tennis is too long, lets make it a 4 game set instead of 6. That 1st game really would count.

It’s already a rule that on second injury time the opponent gets choice. What Andy is arguing is that on the first injury time the opponent is awarded choice, which is the collegiate rule.

Agree, change is needed. Another thing you see is some coaches going to the table multiple times which also gives their wrestler a breather. Not saying coaches can't go to the table for legitimate concerns, but some teams/coaches do it way too frequently and consistently IMO.  Usually during tight matches and tournament time.

I have said this before, but wrestling is completely different from other individual sports like track or golf. In track, you can practice the high jump, or shotput, or 400m perfectly well without a high level partner. Golfers spent inordinate amounts of time on individual skills like putting, chipping and driving.

It is literally impossible to improve much at wrestling without a practice partner near to your size who is at a good enough level. A few small schools (Way to go, Rochester!!) get a critical mass, but without it you are in trouble. And outside practices or camps are banned in-season. How do the small schools compete then?

Regardless of what it does to attendance, I sure hope no one ever makes a decision for children's activities based on what the fans want to see.

That being said, why don't people hold the same fondness for ticket round matches with no wrestle-backs? It is way more exciting to watch a single-elimination 16-wrestler bracket determine who goes to state than allowing first round losers to wrestle all the way back to qualify for a spot.
