  1. Since my specialty is sort of changing the subject, how many of those top 5 ranked T&F athletes are also wrestlers? Is there anyone who is ranked in both wrestling and T&F? I would think some throwers if no one else. An overall, who is the best wrestler-track-field athlete?
  2. A little surprised to see ID and KS ahead of IN in per capita, but their populations are so low that 1 or 2 extra qualifiers would make a big difference.
  3. As they said (not seriously) in the video, Virginia should be top tier because they have more state champions than anyone. It almost makes sense until you actually think about it.
  4. It could be worse. Michigan doesn't even exist in a tier.
  5. That played out well. If you had called both as finalists you would have been spot on, but Davison as finalist was a little improbable. Mendez was always a real chance.
  6. Man it is hard to figure out when someone is serious and when they are joking. Like the buddy of mine who used to post that cannibalism wasn't so bad. You think you know someone.
  7. We are always going to disagree here. You may see the lack of wrestlebacks as exciting but I see Henderson vs Haines in the ticket round, with only one of them going, as an abomination. Both wrestlers have put in the work and are the bad draws, but blind luck of the draw combined with the lack of wrestlebacks means that the question of the top 4 semistate wrestlers on the day is not even considered. And it easily could be. Add a round of wrestlebacks to semistate and qualifying gets harder. You have to win 3 matches instead of 2 to qualify, and the third will always be against someone out of your pod who has already won 2 matches. Add wrestlebacks to the State Finals and you need to win 2 matches to place instead of 1. That is way more exciting to me. If you really want exciting, watch the blood round at Fargo or Super32 or NCAAs. Wrestlebacks would make Indiana HS wrestling better.
  8. Wrestle backs you say? What an interesting idea. Please tell me, have any other states implemented these "wrestle backs" , or would Indiana be the first?
  9. At the absolute opposite end of the scale in pretty much every way, these are David Taylor's thoughts. Not so recommended for high school and lower ages. 15:03 if the embedded start time doesn't work.
  10. Flo also has an interview with Julianna Ocampo live now on the site. https://www.flowrestling.org/video/12155484-julianna-ocampo-on-historic-win-it-felt-amazing
  11. This is the Jesse Mendez-Cole Solomey situation. After coming second to Mendez at sectionals, Solomey was guaranteed not to hit Mendez until the finals of Regionals. Keep coming second at regionals and semistate, and he was the only wrestler in the field who was absolutely guaranteed not to hit Mendez until the championship match, even before the draw. It may hurt your ego, but having a monster in your sectional or regional bracket guarantees that you will not see him early in the next week's round.
  12. But if we were doing it right, the dialogue would only be a quarter interesting. Where does the other bit come from?
  13. Completely irrelevant question. Why do they call it semistate when there are four of them? That makes two states in total. Who gets the second title? IHSAA has a lot to answer for. Do you know what would fix all of these problems? You know ...
  14. Hartleroad was the aggressor throughout his semifinal. I spent most of the match wondering why the refs didn't call stalling against his opponent, who would only give ground and not directly attack throughout the match.
