There were a number of errors from the sectional scores that were adjusted for this round. Some notes: 1. The 3A standings are still very irrelevant unless you're below about 140 points. Virtually everyone else has a chance to get into contention. You'll need about 280 points to get an automatic berth and about 250 to be in contention for the voting on the last 2 positions. Some surprise teams from relatively weak sectionals/regionals will have a very difficult time keeping up with the pace of the huge points that will go on the board starting this week from the powerhouses. 2. The 2A standings will be VERY interesting this week because a few teams from relatively weak sectionals (jasper, yorktown, peru, for example) have large number of underclassmen at semi-state. If any of them win their first match, the multiplier comes off of that wrestler's score and they get an enormous leap in points. Meanwhile, the top few teams will be virtually stationary no matter what happens this weekend because of bonuses already built into their scores. 3. Remember again: These scores tell us who will be a good duals team NEXT YEAR. It doesn't matter if you beat a team in a dual meet this year if you have 7 or 8 seniors. You have to prove you're going to be good next year through mostly the performance of your underclassmen. 4. Looking through the Semi State brackets I see 1 Busco wrestler, who is a freshman and took 4th place at regional. I also see 7 South Adams wrestlers, 4 seniors (1 champ, 2 2nd place, 1 3rd), 2 juniors (1 2nd place, 1 4th), and a freshman who was regional champion. Seems like the numbers are way out of line there, how does that happen? Am I missing something? I realize this may shake out if South Adams takes a few to state, just seems out of whack. It looks to me like Busco only had 1 Senior in their lineup compared to SA's 4, and statistically speaking...........the 1.27 Carroll Sectional Multiplier vs the 1.00 for the Jay County Sectional, has made the difference. X_R A T E D Posted February 8, 2012 Share Posted February 8, 2012 South Adams also has mason morningstar that was hurt in the beginning of the season, and maverick Morningstar who was a semistate qualifier last year that was unable to wrestle this year. Both of these wrestles didn't participate in sectional either. They would have given many points to south Adams too. Mason is a freshman and maverick is a sophomore. At this point they're at a similar score because 1) they have a huge % of their team coming back, 2) most of those returnees placed in a tough sectional (which means A LOT when we're forecasting 1A dual meet strength), and 3) because those high-placing kids you mention are not differentiated from 4th placers. Only final advancement level is considered in the points. This week will change everything because other teams will keep getting points while Busco is about done. Keep in mind it's 1A also. There are no superpower teams. The list of teams with more than 1 semi-state underclassmen is very short. The list of teams with almost their entire roster coming back is literally almost none--especially a team that placed so many against higher-class teams in their sectional. 1A is just a different animal. In our defense we were ranked fifth in the class by the coaches for almost the entire season. We also return 13 out of 14 kids from that group. Our sectional and regional are pretty deep, so that helps us too. We wrestled the last half of the year without a solid 220/hwt kid, and our 113 who was servicable, was replaced by a forfiet. In duals and tournaments we placed above several of the teams that are behind us in the standings as well. In everyone else's defense we have wrestled absolutly horribly over the past two weeks, and have not advanced several kids who I felt would still be wrestling on. We lost several close matches, and that is no ones fault but our own. I feel if we had wrestled the way that we are capible of that this would not be an issue that would be being discussed, but we wrestled how we did so it is fair. The goal of this system is to project the top eight teams based on who are coming back, as a team that wrestled pretty well for most of the season, and has 13 out of 14 of its wrestlers returning I feel that we are among the teams that should be a favored to get invited. At the same time we did not get it done at the end of the season when it matters most, and if we are not on the invite list at the end of it all, we can only blame ourselves. By the way if the tie breaker comes down to best beard Eric gets it, if it comes down to hair we would get it. Heck if coaches hair was the final factor we would be looking at a class 3A invite.
