How to move up in Class for Team Duals State Finals (by MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!!)

Pretty sure Thornton just proved to you that it isn't statistically impossible. Btw, I'm not a MD fan, I live 3+ hours away. I just have a common respect for a great program and get tired of trolls like you making this same invalid argument every single year.

actually its been a couple of years since we've had a good MD recruiting dust up....brings back memories

It is about time for another long, babbling, ttipton post that ignores everything anyone else has said!  Odds on him saying "statistically impossible"?

Looks like you've had some run ins with this guy. He has said "statistically impossible" about 47 times  already and completely ignores facts.

22 actually. So i guess when all else fails and you've been proved wrong it's time to stoop to personal attacks? Good one bud.

I never said anything for you to prove wrong. and as for being 22, guess we should all learn from your vast life experiences and not be questioning your knowledge of wrestling.  Maybe about the Mater Dei teacher thing. That was just a shot in the dark! Sorry teach! I really just like seeing you all making fools of yourselves defending something so obvious to most people. I admire your loyalty though!

Wow that's just crazy!

Now with all of the "Statistical" stuff out of the way, how does MD go about choosing the guys that they recruit? ;D

To be completely honest, I love the fact that Southern Indiana has some wrestling powerhouses! Hate that you usually have to go to Indy or above to get respect as a wrestling school. I just don't like MD. God bless the USA and Southern Indiana!  ;D

Wrestling State Titles (1985-86), (1994-95), (1995-96), (1996-97), (1997-98), (1998-99), (1999-00), (2000-01), (2001-02), (2002-03), (2005-06), (2006-07)

Established in 1949, one title between 1949 and 1986 Hmmmm.... 1 title in 37 years then every year from 94 to 07 what changed in 94? Somebody figure out how to use holy water on the wrestling team?  ;D

What changed? Duh...have you been living under a rock.....it is called TEAM State. MD was undefeated in duals for years prior to Team State....just didn't have enough studs to win the title under the ind format....kinda like this year. MD probably won't place as high at ind state as they do in Team.

Tipton---accepting forfeits is cheating? You are either trolling or a bonafide idiot.

Legend has it the Bishop of the Evansville Diocese was a huge wrestling fan and bestowed millions of dollars upon the MD wrestling team that he had won in the Powerball Lottery.  Those millions are what has enabled MD to recruit at Super32, Fargo, etc.  Without the financial backing of the church....  Oh, I just hate to think what would have happened.  Mater Dei would have to have had a fantastic coach and staff willing to work their a$$es off, a feeder program that developed great wrestlers and families who were willing to sacrifice and work toward becoming great.   Further, they would have to have the continued support of those wrestlers to coach in the feeder program, have kids of their own and develop them into fine wrestlers.  Whew, good thing the Bishop played the Powerball.

Sorry this is off topic a little but....

If a smaller school bumps up that would bump out a larger school. Are we overcompensating?

There was no stipulation discussed by the coaches about this.  If someone bumps up, other schools will stay where they are.  If the smaller school can beat out the bigger school for a spot...well, the bigger school should have wrestled better.

MD has in the past and does currently recruit. Yes, I do realize that MD has a TON of legacy students, some probably kids of former recruits, and heck, my kids will be 4th generation MD students from my wife's family, but they do recruit. I have personal experience with friends and their children being recruited to MD. It happens, and you will have to come to grips with that eventually.

I personally have no problem with it. Again, its how ALL private schools get some percentage of kids, by recruiting,... and for many reasons, ie academics, fundraising, and yes, athletics. Sorry, I'm not trying to beat anybody over the head with it, but the MD mentality of "everyone recruits but us" is false. When it comes to a school paying the bills, its students tuition that does it. A winning tradition will be appealing to many potential students, athletic or not and is just another tool in the big bag of tools private schools have to help pay the bills.

From an Alumni in the Evansville courier press.

You are the one that thinks recruiting is a negative or implies a negative, not me. I'd be interested on finding out what exactly you think "recruiting" is? Nobody implied that back-alley deals are being made and kids are given what equates to full-ride athletic scholarships to attend MD.

Get the negative image you have of kids being given sex, drugs, and cars to attend a school and maybe the reality will set in. Do you not think that inviting kids to football, or basketball, or wrestling camp is "recruiting"? Of course it is. How about sending flyers to a kid that has zero affiliation with MD? Yep,...recruiting. Those open houses you refer too, do you not think coaches are there talking to kids about how valuable a kid with their skills would be at their school? Of course they are. Sure sometimes tuition assistance comes in to play, sometimes not. But that's the reality of HS recruiting. It happens whether you want to call it that or not. Again nobody mention that 50% or even 10% come from athletic recruiting. A couple here, a couple there, and boom, you are losing in the state championship instead of the regionals.

The "everyone recruits but MD" argument is stale but I stand by what I've said. You live in your "reality" and leave my church out of it.

I have to agree with this guy!

Now please do me a favor and point out ONE just ONE wrestler on any on these championship teams that you know was "RECRUITED". Until then your argument is ignorant and makes you look flat out jealous.

dang, that had to take some time to gather all that.....and type it all!......that's worth a wahoo!

I am sorry had to grab something to eat, but I can tell you one thing if you took all of Matre Dei's coaches and equipment and staff and moved them to anywhere else in the state they would not be near as dominate.  South Adams and Adam Central are the top of the 1 a chart and I can bet you there practices are not much different then anything Matre Dei is doing yet they can not compete with Matre Dei why is that?  Maybe because Matre Dei fields an allstar team of local talent every year.  Maybe you do not recruit in the sense of going up and telling parents they should get their kids enrolled, but it is obvious that Matre Dei hand picks their talent, and since they pick wrestlers from all over the area isn't that an unfair advantage?  If you say you don't do that then I am going back to my statistical arguement, because wrestling is not a sport where teams reinvent the wheel.

You know I do totally agree with ttipton, but on the other side of the coin, I have to hand it to the HS coaches, We have a few catholic schools around us here and they suck! Takes a very intelligent, savvy, determined person to be able to look to the future and build the kind of program they have built there. Don't get me wrong, I still don't like them but I respect greatness.

I have never said anything bad about there program, but there are a lot of teams doing things right.  If you took Matre Dei out of the mix and moved there coaching staff else where they still would have an awsome team.  It just would not dominate like they do now.  They wouldn't win 9 straight in any division.  They would have a few though because they do things right.  They have a great youth program and quality coaches and parents, but to say they don't have an advantage is undermining great smaller school teams who also do things right.  So sorry if I offended anyone, but calling people names and acting like your better then everyone is going to get people angry.

So if a team bumps up to 3a from 2a and wins -- Does the remaining 2a champion get an asterisks in the record book for being the 2nd best 2a team but the better 2a team bumped up....

Teams are allowed to bump up on their own in other sports just not many do.  Not many other sports have small teams as dominate as Matre Dei.  I am against a forced bump up, but it would be nice to see a team of their caliber step up.  If they don't it will still be a great tourney and I am totally behind it.  For the most part I like the way things have progressed with the coaches association, and I think this will be bigger and better then the current format.  So all and all I have nothing to complain about.

I did not know that about other sports.  Playing devil's advocate, a realistic situation could be that the top 2 1A schools could beat the top 2a school. In that case it would be tempting for the second best 1a school to bump up to dodge a team like Mater Dei...
