  1. SWIN, style certainly was a big factor. However, my point is that the physical development between an 18 year old and 14/15 year old is huge and was certainly a factor (even if not an obvious factor). A 17 year old Lee may have imposed his will more effectively.
  2. Datdude---I know they are about the same age (maybe exactly for all I know). That is my point that physically they are at the same development level. There was a big difference when Micic and Lee wrestled (in their physical development). Its just really tough for a freshman to physically match up with a senior, much less a senior as solid as Micic.
  3. Yeah....guess I need to pay more attention :-) I think I just glanced and didn't read his poem.
  4. You know the draw everyone in the state is waiting for...are they on the same side or not?
  5. Yeah...you are right. Not sure why I had it in my head that Nick Lee dropped a class (I know very well it was Joe Lee at 138 last year ...lol)
  6. Lee was a freshman wrestling a nationally ranked Micic. Give Lee props for going after him but you had a nationally ranked wrestler who was three years older (that is a big physical difference at those ages) . Red is only one year older than Lee with no real physical advantage. I look for a very good match. If you want to be a 4-time champion then this is what it is about. You have to beat back all challengers and I think the whole state appreciates Lee dropping a class from last year to go after Red. If Red wins, he will have definately cemented his legacy. if he loses then he will still go down as one of the best wrestlers in Indiana history. As far as the best 4-timer. I would go with Escobedo. He did beat some very good wrestlers who did not dodge him (Macke) and went on to have an outstanding collegiate career. Jason Tsirtsis would be right there also but I do not think he faced the same level of talent as Escobedo in High School (feel free to disagree).
  7. I have watched both Red and Lee for a long time and both are unbelievable wrestlers. I was anxious to see the Molloy match because it would be the best gauge yet as to where Lee is after injury and test his conditioning. I daresay he looked more dominant than I think I have ever seen him. I don' expect him to go through Red like that but it truly is anyone's match at this point. Personally, I love it for the sport. Most good wrestlers tend to avoid each other so they have a better chance at a title. Lee always goes after the best. If Red wins, then he probably does go down as the best. Of all the four timers, I think Lance Ellis faced the most top notch wrestlers on a consistent basis.
  8. Johnson and Molloy bumped heads. They circled afterwords and Johnson blacked out (fell backwards off his feet...no contact). If a wrestler loses conscientiousness in a tournamount, they are not allowed to continue until they have been thoroughly checked and cleared by a doctor (there may also be a mandotory time before competing again also I think...like 48 hours). While Johnson wanted to continue, state rules prevent it.
  9. "accept you misspelled it" Don't you hate it when you put your own foot in your mouth?
  10. First: Kudos to Nick Lee for going after the best. He would have likely won the state title at 132 but he cut to 126 because he simply wanted to wrestle the best. That attitude alone is commendable. Second: Micic was the better wrestler at state. Would he be the best wrestler everyday? Who knows and it doesn't matter. Nick gave it his best and Micic won. Congrats to Stevan. You had one of the best guys in the country come after you and handled it like a champ. Third: Does Lee beat Red. Very likely he does as he is the bigger wrestler and Red would have to give up weight. Lee can't make 120 and Red would likely have to wrestler 132 or 138 to make the match happen. Red has completely dominated his first 2 years. I do not think he has wrestled guys at Lee and Micic's level but top to bottom 120 was probably a stronger class and Red walked through it (although the finals were a bit closer than most expected). At the end of the day, these might be the best three pound for pound wrestlers in the state.
  11. Lol. I definately meant Paul the ref. I have known Konrath for many years. Nothing but respect for him and his family.
  12. I am fairly certain of three things: 1. Egli and Konrath will LIKELY meet again Saturday. 2. If Paul (the ref) is assigned that match again he will probably say "f%$ this" someone else take it. 3. If say what is there he will be able to explain each and every cheer and what the MD crowd was thinking for you.
  13. Booing during the match? By MD? Did you misinterpret the cheering as the reversal was happening as booing? I am not sure where in that match the MD faithful (or MV faithful as far as that goes) had an opportunity to boo?? The only booing I ever heard was after Egli's hand was raised.
  14. Leave it alone... MD alone accounted for 7 of the champions and 13 of the qualifiers. I think the numbers would have been skewed to any sectional MD was assigned to.
  15. BB145, I think the point is the tecumseh kid had the benefit of the crowd. Maybe it gave him more drive, more energy or just a little boost...maybe the ref called the pin fast (not saying he did btw) becasue the crowd was calling for it.....point is that MD is always wrestling against the non MD crowd (all of them).
  16. Maybe MD "gets the calls" because their wrestlers are well versed in the rules and the average fan isn't? I hear lots of fans (MD included) who do not understand the position and scoring and question calls that are fairly cut and dry to knowledgeable fans. There have been numerous times when the MD singlet worked against us when a ref wanted to show how unbiased he was.....In the late 90s when MD was destroying everyone they were accused of "stalling to a win". It got so bad, even SOME refs in middle school (and post season) tournamounts were making biased calls. A number of MD parents did not wear school colors or logos so the ref would not realize it was an MD wrestler. Prove me wrong...encourage your kids to enter all the post season tournamounts and show up all these MD kids when they aren't getting the benefit of the crowd intimidating the referee.
  17. Say What, I appreciate the effort all kids put into wrestling. However, your comment "Our kids work just as hard as MD"......well....I guess I would take that bet any day of the week.... Not to say some kids don't work that hard but as a team, both in and out of season I can guarantee you that the teams you mentioned are absolutely not putting in the same effort that MDs wrestling team does...
  18. Indianawrestler, Can you put a link to the relevant rules verbiage (or paste it). I havn't been able to find anything that spells it out like you stated. What I have found is more general in nature. Thanks.
  19. An escape? It was either a reversal or stalemate but certainly not an escape. A leg scissor? I will admit that that I am pretty new to the sport and know very little but a leg scissor?
  20. I don't know the exact rule. I suppose there is probably latitude in that situation based on referees judgement. Key points though: 1. Konrath was completely flat (belly out) holding Egli's ankle. 2. Egli's hips were up and he was behind Konrath. 3. Egli had Konrath's near leg completely hooked (laced). 4. Egli's hands were over Konrath's hips and locked around the oppasite leg (through the crotch). In a normal position this would essentially be a banana split and no one would question he was in the control position.
  21. There was no reversal at the buzzer. The ref made the call with about 4 tics on the clock. After the buzzer the ref consulted with the side judge and the call stood. He did not make the call because of the "crybaby" fans.....really???? It a good thing that Konrath has more class than those commenting on this thread.
  22. Call was not a takedown...it was a reversal. Tough Call either way.
  23. Are we really questioning why a freshman (Lee) is not ranked higher than #20 on Flo? Honestly, who cares (20 is pretty good for a freshman regardless of his accomplishments thus far). The kid has three years of high school left. Regardless of whether he beats Micic he will be getting his offers by his Senior season and he will most definitely climb in the rankings. My gosh, a few weeks ago people were picking Davis to major Lee......these are all fine boys and they will sort it out on the mat (without Flowrestling's input). A lot of the discussion around Lee is starting to sound eerily like some of the comments I heard about Blake Maurer his freshman year. he only difference is that Lee is much better IMO than Maurer was at this stage.
