New Albany's Phil Thrasher earned 517 dual meet victories.

Thrasher began the Bulldogs’ wrestling team in 1955 and coached the program for 40 years until 1995. During his tenure, Thrasher guided New Albany to 14 sectional titles, six regional championships, three semi-state crowns and a state runner-up finish in the 1960-61 season. He also coached five individual IHSAA state champions. Along with starting New Albany’s program, Thrasher helped start high school wrestling programs at Floyd Central, Providence and Corydon Central. Thrasher was inducted into the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1974. Thrasher also earned induction into the New Albany High School Hall of Fame in 2012. He taught at NAHS throughout his coaching tenure from 1955-1995.

I know I'm going to miss some very notable guys in this response, however here goes my list anyway.

International level: Alexander Medved (USSR) was a several time World & Olympic Champion back in the late 1960's and early 1970's who rose to be one of the elite international officials in the world.

NCAA: Wade Schalles (Clarion) and Chuck Yagla (Iowa) were NCAA champions before they became elite college officials. Eric McGill (Munster) is well on his way to making this NCAA list down the road.

IHSAA: Indiana State Finalists, Don Hinds, Larry McMillen, Mike Faulkner, Henry Wilk, and Steve Hunter all wrestled for a prep State Championship before donning their striped shirts and officiating at multiple IHSAA State Finals.

Please feel free to add your own names to this list...as I am certain to have omitted several deserving of being recognized here.

    Coach McClurg,

Duane gave me my 1st college loss (8-6) in the quarters of the Indiana Little State held at Taylor University in December of 1980. He placed 3rd and I finished a disappointing 6th. The next year, I beat him in the Little State finals (8-8, 7-1 / OT) at home (Wabash) PICTURED. We never wrestled again, I believe partially because he was also a football player at ICU and had to pull too much weight to make 190 easily early in the season. I stayed down at 190 because ICU also had a giant of a man at HWT named Wade Hall that was an AA prior to Duane in 1985.
