  3. Joe, Brian Williams is a policeman and the new head coach at Lake Station Edison, replacing long time lay coach Dan Mora who retired last fall.
  4. This screw up is 100% mine. I missed Westfield's communication last spring informing us that they were not returning this year. However, I believe Whiteland is going to step up and solve my problem. I am currently working on revising the draw. When I get confirmation from their AD tomorrow, I will distribute the "new" draw. Thanks to everyone for spreading the word.
  5. 2022 Chris Traicoff Memorial Wrestling Invitational Pairings @Calumet High School, Gary, Indiana Saturday, December 10, 2022 1st ROUND PAIRINGS Top Bracket #1) Cathedral vs. Lake Station #8) New Prairie vs. Whiteland #5) Mt. Vernon-Fortville vs. River Forest #4) Portage vs. South Bend Riley Bottom Bracket #3) Franklin vs. Calumet #6) Fishers vs. Valparaiso #7) Lowell vs. Southmont #2) Mishawaka vs. Hanover Central Factors taken into consideration in seedings/pairings are: 1) The most recent IHSWCA & Indiana Mat Team Rankings. 2) Early results from the 2022-23 season, thus far, as reported on Indiana Mat, Trackwrestling, or any other online media outlets. 3) Fairly separating the best teams, so that each team has the best chance of seeking their own level in the placement rounds. 4) Avoiding 1st round rematches from last year, with an effort to keep Conference, Sectional & Regional rivals apart for Round #1. Care has been taken to avoid any Conference, Sectional or Regional match-ups in Round #1. If you would like to check weights/scales on Friday night, contact me at jwadkins@lakeridgeschools.net and I will do my best to accommodate you and your team. Good luck with your meets this week, we'll see you all for a great day of wrestling on the 10th.
  6. This Saturday (12/3), Lake Central hosts a 16 team wrestling invitational that has been running for over 40 years. We just had a team drop and are looking to fill one slot. Wrestling begins at 9 am CST with weigh-ins and the seeding meeting at 7:30 AM. Please contact Jeff Sandor at jsandor@lcscmail.com if you're interested.
  7. (Per IHSAA media release on Jan. 8, 2002...listed under milestones.) New Albany's Phil Thrasher earned 517 dual meet victories. Thrasher began the Bulldogs’ wrestling team in 1955 and coached the program for 40 years until 1995. During his tenure, Thrasher guided New Albany to 14 sectional titles, six regional championships, three semi-state crowns and a state runner-up finish in the 1960-61 season. He also coached five individual IHSAA state champions. Along with starting New Albany’s program, Thrasher helped start high school wrestling programs at Floyd Central, Providence and Corydon Central. Thrasher was inducted into the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1974. Thrasher also earned induction into the New Albany High School Hall of Fame in 2012. He taught at NAHS throughout his coaching tenure from 1955-1995.
  8. I have been approached by a Calumet Region AD to see if I know of any eager young wrestling coaches that might be interested in a recently vacated position or a soon to be open position. If you have any interest, I would be happy to forward your contact info for you.
  9. I know I'm going to miss some very notable guys in this response, however here goes my list anyway. International level: Alexander Medved (USSR) was a several time World & Olympic Champion back in the late 1960's and early 1970's who rose to be one of the elite international officials in the world. NCAA: Wade Schalles (Clarion) and Chuck Yagla (Iowa) were NCAA champions before they became elite college officials. Eric McGill (Munster) is well on his way to making this NCAA list down the road. IHSAA: Indiana State Finalists, Don Hinds, Larry McMillen, Mike Faulkner, Henry Wilk, and Steve Hunter all wrestled for a prep State Championship before donning their striped shirts and officiating at multiple IHSAA State Finals. Please feel free to add your own names to this list...as I am certain to have omitted several deserving of being recognized here.
  10. Do all qualifiers have a $30 entry fee, SSQ's as well as the guys who came through the Regionals?
  11. Bryan Bailey (Martinsville) vs. Toby Turner (Monrovia) late 1980's/Early 1990's
