Was it Cael McCormick that started this West Point pipeline?

greco165 got a reaction from SIACfan in Annual best to never win a state title thread!
Based on who he had to go through, this is my vote for best to never win. Had Angel x2, which needs no explanation, but also had Aaron Clark his sophomore year. Guys not around Indiana wrestling 20 years ago do not know what a beast Clark was. Legit contender at 112 the year before (beat state champ Nathan Peterson at least once that season, maybe multiple times?), then drops to 103. He was nationally ranked and I believe teched or pinned everyone that year not named Craig Macke. The matches got closer every time, going from either a tech or major the first time they met and culminating with Macke's massive upset of him at team state.

I have to think the state champion from the smallest school was Ryan Pribble. Some schools mentioned here are 500-600, that's not small. Turkey Run is small.

I'd throw an honorable mention out for Cory Cook as Henry County/New Castle specific. 3x qualifier 2x placer

greco165 got a reaction from aoberlin in Scratch Weight
A certain former state championship program used to put mats under the scales to help their kids make weight at home meets. Another former powerhouse program used separate locker rooms for weigh ins at their Super duals, the locker room with all the tough teams had scales a half pound heavier. The good old days...

Love the part with the leg cradle where coach yelled that the ref stopped it because he'd never seen it before

God, I’ve always hated this response so much. You don’t have to be a chef to know your food got burnt. You don’t have to be a dentist to know if something is wrong with your tooth. And you don’t have to be a referee to see a bad call is being made.
Edit: This is not to say we need to get on a message board to ridicule refs for every bad call; they’re human, it happens, none of us could get it perfect every time. But you don’t have to be a certified referee to spot bad calls.

I love how this is always thrown out as an argument. I'd wager just about everyone on this forum has wrestled quite a bit, and is familiar with what should or shouldn't be a stall call, unless you're talking about some heavyweights.

I don't mean to split hairs but South Bend is less than an hour from the Region. Indy to South Bend is close to 2 hr 30 min. You can live a mile away from a different time zone, so that doesn't mean much.

greco165 reacted to wchew20 in 2015 Middle School State
I was there for that 13 hour day. People saw Shenandoah pop up in the 1A polls the last couple of years. If they would have been able to keep that middle school group together, they would have competed for a state title. They had the Williams kid that lost to Jack Kiser in the finals in OT (moved away). They also had Jordan Slivka, Dallas Pugsley (SQ), Hayden Lohrey (lost to Asa in the finals that year and looking for his 3rd trip to the bank this year) AJ Black 2x State runner up, and Silas Allred (you may have heard of him). John Slivka did a great job building that program when these kids were in middle school before they moved to Cathedral. I can’t imagine seeing a better 1A team.

1.GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS: lets first talk about our female wrestlers from Team State. Alara Boyd Yorktown won girls regionals with three pins, as expected. But, at team state she won 2 matches by pin and lost to Gimson by pin in the second. And this is at 138lbs.. You don't see girls having success at that weight. Where is she going to college? Annalyse Dooley West Vigo won girls regionals with three pins and went 1-3 at team state. Tori Buchanan West Vigo won girls regionals and went 3-1 at team state. Tough Girls! Kayla Miracle broke the glass ceiling and paved the way for these girls to show they can hang with the boys.
2. MATER DEI: Really disappointed in MD. I guess I wanted to see the MD from the past where they could pull huge upsets, get pins and not get pinned.. but they're young and look for them to compete next year.
3. BROWNSBURG: Showed you can't buy a title and that upsets are still a thing. This cements Brownsburg's legacy up their with Mishawaka, Penn, Mater Dei, Perry, etc.. (Avon too, I guess lol).
4. UPSET CITY! North Posey comes in UNSEEDED and places third. I guess no one told them they weren't seeded!
5. DONNELL WASHINGTON/NICK SOUTH: State champ versus State champ! Props to Donnell for bumping up. Donnell has faced two state champs this year and is 1-1 against them. (He may have faced one at Brecksville, IDK). South shows us last year wasn't a fluke or this years S32 second place finish. IU getting a good one!
