Today was an awesome day of wrestling at the Team State Duals. I was at the 3A tournament and was checking results all day from the other 2 locations. The team aspect of a good dual is one of the best parts of wrestling. Watching wrestlers sacrifice to cut a few extra pounds or willing to bump up a weight class to sacrifice for their team to try and get the win is really selfless. Watching teammates erupt from a pin and also watching teammates congratulate their teammate for getting beat by 13 and saving 2 team points is fun to watch.

In a year where we were told to stay away from each other, it was refreshing to see teammates jumping up and down in celebration. It made the stresses of 2020 seem distant.

This year took more work than ever. Coordinating with multiple locations, teams droppings out from quarantine, getting weigh-ins coordinated for 40 teams was really a struggle.

It was a relief to finally have the day here. I think JD Minch and Pat Culp deserve some huge recognition for so much time working on this. Dane Fuelling seeding 40 teams is incredible. You honestly are an Indiana wrestling genius. Chuck Barnett sent me 6 revisions on officials assignments and was available always to help with any changes.

Franklin and Brownsburg stepped up to host their class, and I know that added work to their load. But those schools made this happen too. There was help from several people at each location that deserve recognition, and I won’t even try to say them all. But a great day of wrestling all over the state was possible because a lot of people worked hard.

I’ll tell them all thanks personally, although we all may need a 24 hour break from each other.

I got to catch some of the Facebook live from Joe and Mike too, and that was a great add for those at home.

Every day this week I have told myself I am going to update the rankings. And each day I spend HOURS of my free time entering results for your team and I never get to the rankings because I don't have all the information.

If you want a seed at Team State, you should not be depending on me to e-mail your AD or local sports editor for results, or scouring your athletics websites for sketchy results.

    PLEASE post your results.

This is currently being solved. Not that I want to not give information, but I also don't want to give information out prematurely. But we have been working with FW Coliseum to see what we are capable of and also finding schools that would be good host schools if they are not capable of meeting our needs. Should have answers very soon.

I can honestly say that I have no idea what normal people do between Christmas and New Year's. I don't remember ever not going to this tournament and I am 34 years old now.

It will definitely be a discussion at the IHSWCA clinic tomorrow and Friday. I think it will be a huge benefit to talk to other coaches, but to also see what kind of guidance Robert Faulkens may provide.

We have talked about these groups of 4 pods at our schools, but even then my admin mentioned how they couldn't be around each other in the locker room, at meets, on the bus etc for contact tracing. Nearly an impossible position.

My favorite post in a long time is hearing a dedicated wrestler trying a different sport!

it’s what we preach to other sports to come try wrestling. If nothing else, the mental, break will be nice for him.

No, Jesse decided to go out for the cross country team late.  CP has a great team and I anticipate them running every Saturday in October.

Crown Point will have about half their roster at Super32 this year. Excited to watch them wrestle.

Congratulations to the wrestling coaching staff of the Edgewood High School Mustangs! They were named the 2020 NWCA Region 4 Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year. Coach Greg Ratliff's staff was the 2020 Indiana Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year. State award winners advance to Region selection. The Mustang staff was named Region 4 Staff of the Year and advanced to the national level selection process. The selection of the Mustang assistant coaching staff of John Bray, Marty Deckard, Toby Turner, Danny Coyne and Buddy Mitchell have represented our state well.

It has been a good week for Indiana High School wrestling at the national level. Penn High School's girls assistant coaching staff, in addition to receiving Region 4 honors was named the 2020 NWCA Girls Assistant Coaching Staff of the Year. Penn High School head coach Brad Harper was named Region 4 head coach of the year and was runner-up for National Coach of the Year honors. As Indiana's NWCA rep, it is my honor to commend the coaches of the Edgewood Mustangs and Penn Kingsmen for their excellence as coaches and for representing our state so well.

All the teams that are being considered for the final two spots were asked to send a report to our data collection guy. He puts all of the information together and sends it back to our panel of coaches who have looked over the "resumes".

In a few weeks, the panel will vote on the final teams after discussions.
