bsisson got a reaction from unknown wrestler in Rage on the Stage is Back!!!
Floyd Central High School is once again doing "Rage on The Stage"  This is an idea that we took from some of the college programs around the country.  We will be wrestling Bloomington South in our Schools auditorium.  Floyd Central has a nationally recognized theater program and they help us put on a really god show with lights and music.
This Year we will be wrestling the Bloomington South Panthers!!
We have State Finals veteran official Kevin Hulsman to officiate and we have also landed the State Finals announcer Kevin Whitehead to announce this event.
If your are in the Southern Indiana Area you should really come check out this event.  We also plan on running Facebook live.  So like our page here Floyd Central Facebook Page to watch.
    Dec. 13th
    Youth/Middle School 5pm
    JV 6:30pm
    Varsity Face Offs: 7:00pm

We did this as well. We did very little conditioning outside the room.

Live drilling is a little different than what we consider sparring.  Sparring we go about 75% and always move through positions. Live Drilling is something I picked up when Reggie Wright was one of my coaches at IU.  I thought they were miserable and would always prefer wrestling live, hence why we now incorporate them.
You should be finishing at match speed but instead of simply cutting your opponent the guy getting takedown has to roll over and stand up.  Same guy does takedowns the entire time.  We usually go :30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, 1:30, 1:00, :30.  The intensity is often dictated by how quickly the guy getting takedown gets up.
Once one guy goes it is the other guys turn.  We will do it where 1 guy does the entire pyramid then the other guy or where we alternate and each guy does the time.
I hope this helps.  It gives the feeling and conditioning of match speed but is also way lower risk of injury.

Go to the Ihsaa website and check out a lot of the wrestling information.  Go to the 2017-2018 tab.  There is info on dates, weight requirements etc.  I'd read the weight management, winter bulletin, and make sure the coach does the online rules meeting.

The gerrymandering in the south is ridiculous, the changes to Jeffersonville and Southridge make zero sense. You will literally have multiple schools passing each other on I-64 going the opposite direction for sectional. Look at a map and see how insane it is.

On the bright side The new Jeffersonville meat grinder will provide some great matches for the fans

Chris Davis (Floyd Central) was one of the officials at the HHC tournament this weekend. He is an outstanding official.  Very decisive with his calls, knows the rules, controls the wrestlers, table help and keeps the match moving.  We travel a lot with our schedule and see officials from all corners of the state.  In my opinion, he is already one of the best out there, and I believe he is a first year official.  He is a great addition to southern Indiana officiating.

Here is the real question.  If you let a 106, 113, 120, 126 pounders to weigh 2 over does the weighin the following week count as a qualifying weighin because all 4 of those weight classes would have to lose more than 1.5% in order to get back down to their weight class the following week.  I know when we ran into this this year I only allowed those guys 1lb just to be safe.

We are taking a play our of some of the college programs playbook the past few year and The #19 Floyd Central Highlanders will be wrestling the #3(KY) St. Xavier Tigers on our auditorium stage on Dec 23rd. The Floyd Central vs St. X dual is always a fun and exciting dual and we have decided to amp it up a notch this year. Our middle school programs will start the program, then a few JV matches and varsity will be the main event.

I know that is is the date of the IHSWCA team state but if anyone is close to the Southern Indiana area this will be an amazing high school wrestling event to attend. We have a national recognized theater program that has agreed to work with us on sound and lighting as well.

Our Facebook page will have updates and reminders next week. We also plan on trying to run a Facebook Live feed from our Facebook page.

bsisson got a reaction from throw45 in Article: #Wrestling Wednesday: Faulkens opens up about wrestling
I think developing a crowd and a more intense atmosphere for week night or even weekend duals (Quads possibly) would be great for the sport.  My eyes were really opened to this just this year.  We (Floyd Central) hosted our HHC Duals on Friday and Saturday, we typically only host the Friday portion of the event and its always a fun atmosphere.  On Friday night 4 teams wrestle 2 duals. 1st Round Floyd vs Jeffersonville and New Albany vs Jennings County with the 2nd round be Floyd vs Jennings and Jeff vs New Albany.

On Friday night our gym was packed with friends, family, and alumni from the 3 local schools.  So much so that people were having trouble finding places to sit.  The atmosphere was fun, loud and intense.  I talked to my AD that night I said man the crowd was awesome and that we might be in trouble for Saturday with seating since 4 more teams were coming with JVs.

9am Saturday rolls around with the addition of 4 more teams and there was plenty of seating.  Yeah those friends and people trickled in throughout the day but the atmosphere was not nearly as fun as the night before.

I am with the everyone else in that I don't want to drop a weekend dual like calumet where my wrestlers have a chance to see multiple state ranked teams and individuals.  But I do think there is something to be said for making wrestling more of a fan friendly sport and there has to be a happy medium.  A weekend quad or tri against tough teams might be solution.  I believe if we can get people to matches more consistently it would for sure help the numbers.

Also as a coach when I try to think when my wrestlers get banged up and injured the most it is for sure after a long weekend and if it isn't the first its the 2nd or 3rd long weekend in a row we wrestle.
