GBaldwin reacted to aoberlin in Weight Allowance
I say no to the weight allowance because kids shouldn't be cutting that much. They already have 2 pounds from after Christmas. But that's just me. If they get 2 pounds more that is a total of 4 pounds, that is almost a whole different weight class.

GBaldwin reacted to Hornet Coach in Accountability
Now that it's tournament time, there are a lot of wrestlers that will not end their seasons the way they want. It is imperative, that we, as coaches, hold them accountable for their post match behavior, even when it's a disappointing match for them. I see so many kids throw child-like temper tantrums and are disrespectful to the other wrestler, the referee, the opposing coach, and sometimes their own coach. We owe it to them to teach them that things in life will not always go their way and that maybe they just didn't work hard enough to accomplish the goal they set out to accomplish. You know, tell them the truth. When it is just one individual, I understand, it is probably just the one wrestler, however, when it's the majority of the team, it has to be what is tolerated as a program. Making good wrestlers is very important to all of us, making great people through the lessons of our great sport, should be the ultimate goal. Good luck to everyone advancing in the tournament and let's all do our part for the sake of our young people!

GBaldwin got a reaction from Mattyb in State Seating
The better question would be, Have they determined how state will run?
Will we have a parade?
Will be have 2 Sessions?
Will they limit ticket sales?
Will we get podium pictures or we going to rush kids after a loss?

GBaldwin reacted to Coach Duncan in IHSAA State Finals
Not here to offend anyone, or get into politics! It is politic overload everywhere we turn.
First off, thankfully we had a wrestling state finals last year. Yes, it was formatted in an extremely modified way, and took the true atmospheric fill from the best state tournament in the country. Just seeing some statements from the IHSAA that Friday will be the same format as last year, but with the weight classes being flipped. There is mention of the parade of champions coming back, how will that look if Friday is divided into two sessions? My hope is that the kids who have EARNED the trip to the big house, is that they experience some normalcy!!! A true warmup and weigh-in that is not backwards!!!! Do not have to sit on a concrete floor that is tapped off in a back hallway, can sit with their families and friends who have supported them for so many years, and actually feel the true environment of our wrestling state finals.
THE BIG QUESTION....is how can there be a national championship football game at Lucas Oil Stadium, at full capacity, where nothing was modified? Full capacity at Pacer games?? Will the IHSAA basketball state finals be modified like the wrestling state finals? Again, not here to offend anyone, just want to understand the logic behind decisions being made!
INDIANAPOLIS — Monday night was a big win for Georgia in the College Football National Championship game. An estimated 100,000 fans watched on at Lucas Oil Stadium and in surrounding bars. While Bulldogs came out victorious, the night was also a major win for the city. “This is more than we expected"
Wrestling: Robert Faulkens said that the Friday first round format used during last year’s wrestling state finals for the first time will be retained in separate sessions, but the weight classes will be flipped. The 152-285 classes will go first and be followed by the 106-145 classes. The parade of champions is expected to return. He also said reserved seating at the wrestling state finals is being strongly considered through the Gainbridge Fieldhouse Ticket Office.

GBaldwin reacted to Darrick Snyder in Team State Results & Discussion
Congrats to Crown Point. Also, congrats to Indiana wrestling. I’m proud that years ago we came together and made this event happen. What a day of wrestling.
Huge shot out to Zeke Seltzer for bumping up to take on Mendez. That alone made the entire event worthwhile.
Lastly, it sucks but we did take our strap down and that’s a team point. It was the correct call.

GBaldwin reacted to Y2CJ41 in Folkstyle vs. Everyone else's style...Is the women's team telling us something?
Here is a unique view, it's not the style it's the fact that we tend to burn kids out at a younger age. They wrestle 100's of matches a year when they are younger and thus leave the sport sooner than they should. On the women's side they tend to start later and there are limited number of women's events to attend so they aren't putting the grueling season on themselves like the younger boys are.

FWSS will have a few more placers in the coming years and I’m confident some of the changes that are happening will produce better wrestling as a whole from our SS.

Awesome job by Mike and the rankers. Even with all of the craziness this year, there were only 14 (plus one unranked vs unranked) rankings upsets.
9 over 5
20 over 14
15 over 9
5 over 4
25 over 14
10 over 9
18 over 11
12 over 4
UR over 14
UR over 8
12 over 9
15 over 9
10 over 4
Ironically, all 3 unranked place winners are at 182!
