Soooo....Carmel gets to put together a word document correcting who they say broke the rules?  On 19 different occasions.   No more, no less.     And as best I can tell the seeding at sections changed not one bit.
  3. Thanks
pritchem reacted to Y2CJ41 in Carmel Disciplined for Sauna Suits
As a coach when doing seeding if you put a legitimate top kid lower you will hurt your kid more than you think will help them. Making them unseeded means they will draw into the top 1 or 2 seed early and thus "capturing" that seed and then knocking a top seed to the consolations earlier than expected.

Once the records of the wrestlers have been posted on Track I will update the spreadsheet.  When new rankings are posted it will be updated as well.  After Sectional, Regional and Semi-state I will update the list to reflect who is still alive.  Currently I only have 2 weights done but it will be completed before Thursday.

I agree.  I played DI baseball and while they are different sports, I can't imagine the level of commitment required to be a national caliber athlete under such a microscope.  In college we drank and partied, played games hung over, chased women, stayed out all night sometimes.  We were still good enough to make the NCAA Tournament one year and a solid program the others as well as having a couple of guys good enough to make the Majors.
I never wrestled at a high level, but I am pretty confident there aren't a ton of guys standing on the podium at the end of the year doing all of that.  There are times I wish I was more dedicated and would have liked to see how good I could have been, but I am also smart enough to know I had physical limitations that would keep me from getting drafted (too short, didn't throw hard enough).
Nonetheless, I have nothing but admiration about the commitment these guys make to be the top at the college or high school level.

Jason.......as FCFighter indicated, everyone responds differently. Especially when factoring body types, genetics and other variables that should accompany any type of strength training regiment (in or offseason).  Specifically......sport specific exercises, diet, additional supplementation, tons of stretching, and most importantly adequate rest.
For my son Silas.....continued in season weight training has worked well.  However, we really transition from heavier lifts, to sets of no more than 60-70% of his max for higher reps.  We’ll also only do so 2 days a week.....in contrast to a full 5-6 days during National Season.
With Silas being young for his class (literally a grade ahead of where he could be).....strength gains were essential early on to ensure he didn’t get bullied on the mat. So we began the summer before his 8th grade year and haven’t looked back.  We started supplementing with 100% whey protein in 8th grade to assist recovery.  That’s still a staple.  He began utilizing creatine his freshman year.....but we’ve switched to a supplement called Mass Impact (Advocare) which consists of a healthy/safe mix of creatine, glutamine and other essential amino’s.  His body has responded well.  Eating clean and allowing at least 48hrs rest between training muscle groups has been what’s worked best for him.  I’d highly recommend tons of plyometrics, agility/footwork drills, and medicine ball circuits to well round and help translate new strength towards technique.
I can assure you that there’s no “secret sauce” for wrestler development or success.  A young athlete just needs to embrace the philosophy of “nobody will outwork me” and apply it to every facet of their life to become the best version of themselves possible.  It sounds to me like you and your son are on that similar path.  So just allow his body, as well as his mental motivation and overall drive to be the determining factor of when to push harder.....and when to ease up.  It has to stay enjoyable.  Because with the amount of pain a young man has to endure to become elite....the perspective of “why” has to be a daily reminder.  For instance.....It’s not conditioning, it’s 3rd period preparation.  It’s not about wins & losses, it’s about becoming the best “you” possible.  If you train the psychological side equally as hard as the physical......the winning will take care of itself.  And in doing so, you’ll build in your son the type of attributes that will make him a champion at life.....not just a champion at wrestling.
This is the dynamic that’s worked well for us. Hopefully some of this info can help you and your son inch closer towards your own mutual goals as well.

    Amen!
This strikes a nerve with me. My freshman son is 85lbs soaking wet, but he's a pretty decent wrestler. He can compete with bigger kids, but giving up +20lbs is a stretch (particularly to the Cottey's, Dalton's, & Nelson's, etc).
Competing on a level playing field was the whole reason that I encouraged him to wrestle. He wrestles year-round in the academies, and I can assure you there are a number of very good kids at or around his weight. Many parents just hold their kids back; who can blame them. We can't, in good conscience, do that, so one way or the other he's going to take his lumps. It is what it is. I understand the rationale, but given how hard he (and the other little guys) have worked; the idea of 110 as the lowest class gets me a bit frosty.

Thank you for saying that.  To have a meaningful discussion about the topic, it only makes sense to talk about it in terms of percentages rather than pounds.  Just like the two pound 'growth allowance' given to the kids after the first of the year.   I have no problem with the concept, but do think giving a #106 an almost 2% allowance while giving the heavyweight .6% allowance seems silly.
I have watched my wrestler over the past two months lose nearly 7% body weight by doing absolutely nothing other than conditioning with the pre-season & club team 5 days a week, and cutting out the 4 x eggos lathered in thick peanut butter for breakfast.

Im super proud of our Indiana Boys.
I watched most matches and followed kids that I didnt know before this tournament, as High School is a new atmosphere for us.
I saw everyone of these kids wrestle their Butts off, and they gave the competition the full fight.
I dont think any of them under performed. They left it all on the mat every time, and I was extremely impressed with the heart they all have.
    Indiana is on the map.
They may not have accomplished their dreams this time, but they are on the right path.
Everyone of them should be proud of the way they wrestled.
We should all praise them for the sacrifices and dedication they gave to fight at the Super 32.
After watching these kids wrestle this weekend, I cannot wait to watch each and everyone of them this season. I am rooting for them all.
From up North all they way to down south, I am proud to be a Hoosier.
Hats off to our Hoosier boys.

Jesse was given back points at the end so the final was 5-2.
