My advice -- if wrestling at a high level is your utmost goal, then wrestle in the offseason and do conditioning/lifting specific to wrestling (i.e. "specialize")

If it is not, then play the sports you have the most fun with.

Remember what Bubba J said. Nebraska got a good one in Chad. He did it his way and good thing he did sometimes the message board gets boring.
Penn state is a great program. Sometimes it's about fit and not who your practice partners are. The Altons never reached their potential at PSU. I honestly feel the Lees would be great Hawkeyes

Semi-state champs and runners-up would have byes.  First round would be 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5, with winners advancing to face 2's and 1's, respectively.  It would be a very interesting setup.  The 5's would in fact beat the 4's in the first round more than half the time (and there would be more upsets of #1's) since the 5's would represent the best of the "unlucky losers" and the 4's would represent the worst of the "lucky winners" from the quarterfinals at semi-state.
I've done research into 10 years of state finals results, and the 5th place underclassmen at state outperform the 4th place underclassmen the following season, on average, by a reasonable margin.  The same phenomenon of the 3-1 fifth placer being in fact better than the 2-2 fourth placer would be true for semi-state too.

IHSAA sets theses rules so kids dont pack up and wrestle at different schools every year!
Just guessing but I would say a majority of the coaches is in favor of this rule, maybe all of them.

Again, this topic is so difficult to define.  Do you mean "most accomplishments", "prettiest rèsumè", most dominant, highest peak level of quality?  I see people defending their choices for various reasons.  For me, I find myself comparing year by year quality level and highest peak quality level, without being strictly tied to accomplishments such as least losses or most titles, since those depend so much on who you had to face.

On one hand, I don't see how you can even compare the freshmen seasons of Red and Tsirtsis.  Tsirtsis faced way more tough guys and had a couple much, much higher quality victories.  His ceiling, based on that season and his sophomore season, was so much higher that I don't even care about the Napules loss (Anyway, how many times did Red face guys as good as Napules his freshman season...3 or 4?..and he faced none of them up close multiple times in a rivalry series. And Tsirtsis wiped the mat with Napules all their other meetings and had no other close in-state matches except for Fargo junior all-americans.  Red had several close wins against non-national caliber guys that could have gone another direction. Freshman Red was not at freshman Tsirtsis' level and it wasn't that close in my mind.)

On the other hand, Red's run of victories in the last year is mind-boggling.  I made the point that he hasn't shown yet that he's as dominant against national competition as JT eventually was.  But how could you be when your weight is so loaded?  He just won the WNO with two guys from the P4P top 12 in his 4-man group.  Also, he may never get past #4 or #5 on P4P lists (JT was #1 or #2), but the top 3 in the P4P rankings right now (Hall, Fix, S.Lee) are turning out to be all-time greats for their age, the likes of whose accomplishments we've rarely seen--let alone 3 guys all at once.  JT probably would not have been ranked higher than any of them.

All this to say, it all comes down to your own personal definition of "best ever."  For now, I still think the distance JT showed between himself and everyone else in the country his senior year and the very, very high level freestyle wins he got in March/April of his senior year are the highest ceiling successes.  But I'm not sure Red's far from doing the same things and he's got his whole senior year left.  It should be fun to see what he does next.

I didn't realize Indiana had so many national caliber kids and hammers that it's gonna kill our local spring freestyle season. I guess I've been living in the dark far too long.

I anticipate us to be a top 5 state w/ all the national talent we are sitting on, holy smokes.

I've had similar thoughts to this possibility. And I think it is the type of proposal that the IHSAA might actually consider.

An individual with a good relationship with the IHSAA has spent time explaining to them how 8 mats could be put on the floor of Bankers Life. That opens up the possibility of doubling the number of matches on Friday night in the same amount of time. 24 wrestlers per weight could be run in 2 rounds with the semi state champs and runners-up with a first round bye and 3 vs 6 (winner gets a 2) and 4 vs 5 (winner gets a 1). More wrestlers in the same amount of time means more money for the IHSAA.

For semistate, we ask to bring back the IHSAA's own idea of wrestling to 5th/6th from the quarter final losers. At most, this would add about an hour or none if semistates were doing the semifinals on only 2 mats. Just use the other 2 mats for the consolation semis and wrestle a third mat during the finals for 5th place. Heck, don't even get them ribbons - they're just happy to have the chance to qualify for state. Plus they get to earn team points which could have impacted at least 2 semistate championships this year.

The only snag I can see is Merrillville's gym because they wouldn't be able to break down to 2 mats to add more seating after the second round. But it could be used as a push to finally move that semistate to a bigger gym. Just propose it while the pink lady is on vacation or something.

Overall, I think it could be a great plan that is feasibly acceptable by the IHSAA. Just imagine how exciting semistate would be... You still get the same ticket round where you win and you qualify plus you get semifinals that are more meaningful to earn a bye at state and we all get another ticket round side-by-side with the semis. And it's all with very little time added to either Saturday.
