There is no cookie cutter solution and simply adding duals won't magically make wrestlers appear on your team.

Coaches need to look into promotion of the sport in school and via social media(aka where kids are!).

There are many ways to help participation and adding duals is just one piece of the puzzle.

The talking points of this article are ideas of getting higher participation in wrestling, from what I gather. I don't think making more mid-week duals will help that in the least bit. In fact, it will probably hurt it. Kids don't want to make weight two and three times a week. Most wrestlers I know like the Saturday multi-dual events. They make weight once and get to wrestle up to 5 times.
As far as the uniform change - I don't particularly like the idea of the two-piece uniform - but I'm not resistant to it either.
I'd say declining numbers aren't so much about how the sport is currently ran, as it is the culture of the kids in school. Used to be, where I'm from, there would be 20 kids cut from the basketball team each year. Now they are looking to get kids to go out for the team. Football participation is down, as are many other sports. A lot of kids simply don't want to put in the work it takes to be good at wrestling.
If numbers are your end game - go to two day a week practices and promise kids they won't have to run. As it is, the kids that want to wrestle enjoy the hard work, the long Saturdays and even the uniforms. The kids that don't want to wrestle, generally, are the ones that wouldn't want to as long as hard work is involved.
    End of long rant.

Not a big deal at all - but Bane defeated Tucker Coffman for a second time last weekend at New Castle. This time it was 4-3.
Bane also beat Berkebile a few weeks ago. I'm not sure of the exact score.

    seriously ?????
    this thread is totally ridiculous.

I would say that I expect better from most of you but I have been reading posts from most of you for the past 3 or so years and have come to expect the stupidity that some of you have posted.....I know the lady very well that has put this magazine together for the past several years and she would NEVER (and I can't underline or bold that word enough) leave anyone out on purpose.

Look back at the numerous threads on this forum about posting results in error and mistakes made on the rankings submitted..................hey guess what, sometimes people (really nice people working for free) make honest mistakes.  Get over it and move on.  You all have great kids and they have accomplished great things so just be proud of those and know that everyone else knows what they have accomplished no matter if it accidentally gets left out of the ISWA book.

If you are looking for someone to pick on then move on to Joe for not coming down to #TheCounty to view the greatest dual with expert coaching moves that brought the score to favor the #Dogs........that's the real criminal in this whole thing !!!!

On behalf of the Allred household and Shenandoah Wrestling.....Sincere prayers are being sent up for Remy's comfort, and quick recovery. Also that God would guide the surgeon's hand, as well as give Remy's family, and the Bellmont Wrestling community added strength and togetherness as they deal with these adverse circumstances. Outside of prayer, plz let me know if we can help in any way.

I want to congratualte former New Castle Wrestler Tom Allen on being selected as Indiana University's new Football Coach.  Tom wrestled here at New Castle in the mid 80's and placed third in the State.  He was a great competitor and always did things the right way....not much has changed in those areas.  He will take IU Football to a new level.

Trying to explain to family and friends that you don't know when a kid will wrestle, exactly is always frustrating. I tell them wrestling starts at 8 - and it could be 8:45 before the kid they want to see wrestles, or it could be 8:01. Then, the next round might start at 9:15 or 9:30....you know the drill. Most of the time they just end up calling afterwards and saying they wanted to come but Aunt Edna stubbed her toe and required emergency care.

Please be serious, this is not about money.  Crown Point probably had 4 new kids move in the week the Moran's left.  The IHSAA specifically forbids transfers for primarily athletic reasons.  Period.  If people don't like the rule, contact the IHSAA and voice your complaint.

As for the Moran's I don't know them or their specific situation, and probably neither do 99% of the other posters on this forum.  What I do enjoy is the uproar in the country about rules not being followed until it affects them personally. I say let's have open enrollment at any time.  Don't like your team's chances come January?  Transfer to a better one. Coach is a jerk in December?  Transfer.  Can't beat the guy in your weight class?  Transfer.

Lastly, Crown Point should build a wall so kids can't leave and Portage should pay for it.  Problem solved.

grappleapple reacted to maligned in So THIS is why Nick Lee is skipping his senior year...
I meant in-state competition across the country--not Indiana specifically.  There are a handful of kids in the entire country that have no possible competitive matches available to them the entire season and Nick is one of them.  But he is the only one of those few that will instead be challenging himself more intensely against better competition.  For the record, our in-state competition is very strong and getting deeper every year.  We're a top 10 wrestling state with loads of college-level talent.  Nick is a special case, and that's all I was trying to highlight.

A quote from a kid who was the center on the football team....in an offense where the quarterback took all snaps under center

"I've got to get a job to help support my family"-
Quote from a kid who a week later was fired from his job because he never went to work. Also noted his parents were business owners, two business to be exact

"Football coach says if I lift all winter and spring, I'll be a starter next season"- quote from a kid who never went to lifting and didn't even play football the next season

"My parents don't want me to cut weight, they say it's unhealthy"- quote from a kid who was over 350 pounds
Side note, his parents, who encouraged him to wrestle because of the weight loss benefits, later told me their child said I said he was too big and wouldn't do any good. That turned out to be a fun mess

Not bad, but those guys are nothing compared to the elite team of coaches I heard they have over in Carp Lake (just across the Kentucky/Indiana line).

Jethro James - Rattlesnake catcher, and once drank an entire gallon of KFC gravy

Jimmy Cletus - Wrestled all four years he was a freshman at Carp Lake, setting the freshman winning record at 12

Bubba Glen - Never wrestled, but is the reigning "World Champ of Indiana" in combat watermelon seed spitting

Bobby Joe's dad - the lone wrestling parent coach. He just signed up to get into the matches for free
