  1. Crazy intense and fun Mother's Day weekend at the Indiana Freestyle Duel Championship in Indianapolis! There were 27 total teams participating, loads of nationally ranked wrestlers, several National Champs, State Champions, Triple Crowners, and winners of all age groups that came together to battle it out in an electric team environment. The Outlaws racked up team titles in both the Elementary and Middle School Division and almost buttoned up the Triple-Crown in the High School Division, but we will get to that later. Elementary Division There was some great wrestling all around with the little ones and it was enjoyable watching Indiana's future stars scrap it out in Freestyle. Although there were dozens of elite elementary kids wrestling, there were also many who had never wrestled Freestyle before, so this was an awesome opportunity to be introduced to the style in safety of their team. There were certainly some converts and believers. Still, The Outlaws and their impressive roster of All-Stars pretty much ran through the elementary division defeating the High Rollers 43-21 in the championship match. Final Results: 1st - Outlaws 2nd - High Rollers 3rd - Delta 4th - Maurer Coughlin 5th - Perry Meridian 6th - Southport 7th - Greenfield-Central 8th - Indian Creek 9th - Franklin Community 10th - Legacy Middle School Division Although the smallest division of the tournament, Indiana's up-and-coming middles schoolers still went at it. The Outlaws and their impressive roster walked away with another championship, but not without a fight from RWA's future stars, winning a tough final 49-30. Additionally, the team environment proved again to be a great opportunity for good, fun competition, whether a Triple Crown winner or beginner in Freestyle. Final Results: 1st - Outlaws 2nd - Region Wrestling Academy 3rd - High Rollers 4th - Punishers 5th - Maurer Coughlin Wrestling 6th - Legacy 7th - Legends of Gold High School Division Epic. Absolutely epic. The tournament started out on fire from the first whistle as many of Indiana's best high school wrestlers and teams converged on Indianapolis to battle it out for bragging rights - and it was lit. Each duel was competitive, intense, and a great learning opportunity for all. The finals however took the cake as an absolutely loaded Outlaws team matched up with an extremely talented Brownsburg squad. EVERY match fans were able to witness a great wrestling and, in epic fashion, the championship came down the final match between a high profile Preston Haines and a tough scrappy Evan Dickey - and these two guys did not disappoint as both wrestled their hearts out in an intense, high scoring fight. In the end, however, Brownsburg won a close and emotional victory this year. Final Results: 1st - Brownsburg 2nd - Outlaws 3rd - Legacy 4th - Center Grove 5th - Warren Gold 6th - Greenfield-Central 7th - Yorktown 8th - Legends of Gold 10th - Warren Black 10th - Franklin Community After all the smoke cleared, Indiana was able to witness a great inaugural event and we have already began planning the 2nd annual Freestyle Duel Championship. We are expecting an even bigger and better turnout and event next year in all facets. In the end, Indiana was able to enjoy another great team event and Freestyle experience in preparation for the upcoming Central Regionals, National Duels, Kids Nationals and Fargo. Thank you to all the teams, coaches, wrestlers and parents who participated, and especially the Mother's who came out on their special Day!

  3. Hello Coaches, I just wanted to pass along some information about the possible of an FCA Wrestling Day Camp. The date for the camp will be July 10th and the camp will run from 9am-8pm. The location for the camp is still TBD but it will be held in the Central Indiana area. I am currently in discussions with Greenfield Central High School about hosting. The goal would be to show the wrestlers some great technique and to introduce them to Jesus and to help them grow deeper in their faith. FCA would provide each wrestler with an FCA t-shirt, bible, devotional book and dinner. The cost will be approximately $100 per camper. Brandon Slay has confirmed he will be our Clinician and Chapel speaker if we do indeed have the Camp. As of now, I wanted to gage interest for the camp to ensure it's worth the cost of having it before I launched the camp officially. I have attached a tentative schedule for you to look at. I want to make this an awesome experience for all wrestlers and coaches who attend. Please let me know if this something you would be interested in attending and also if you have any feedback. 4. The Fort Wrestling Facility should be coming online at the beginning of June barring no construction issues. We are located in Fort Wayne 3 minutes off of I69. We will be hosting live wrestling nights, local academies, meet the coach sessions, open facilities, camps, and clinics. For June and July we have Tom Ryan, Logan Stieber, and Purler camps coming your way and sign ups are open. Check us out at https://thefortwrestling.com. You can also see the progress of the build out at https://www.facebook.com/wrestlefortway and Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/wrestlefortway/ The whole goal is to bring more training opportunities to the area. Any support is appreciated.

  6. It was unbelievable this weekend. So many duels were decided by just a match or two. Comebacks from down 7-9 points were not uncommon including the Dickey Haines match. Haines took a 7-0 lead, Dickey came storming back with a takedown and trapped arm gut to take a 12-7 lead. With less than 45 seconds left, Haines got a takedown to a lace to take the lead back and held on. Every weight class had multiple state qualifiers, placers and champs in them. Can’t wait to see how this event grows in the future!

    IHSAA Proposals

My comments are in red 9) WRESTLING COACHES PROPOSALS JD Minch, Gary Myers of Hamilton Heights, and Danny Struck of Jeffersonville, all representing the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association (IHSWCA), spoke to the rules proposals listed below for consideration. Proposal 1: Add Girls Wrestling as an IHSAA sanctioned sport. Common sense Proposal 2: Reduce the wait time between competition from 45 minutes to 30 minutes. (the coaches association withdrew this proposal as this will be part of the NFHS rules change process). No need to have 45 minute wait, but needs to be done at NFHS level Proposal 3: Expansion of state tournament from 16 competitors per class to 20 competitors per class. They would need to have the pseudo wrestle-backs like they did about 8 years ago. Also this could make for some interesting matches at state if the #1 comes in cold and the 4/5 winner gets a match underneath them. Proposal 4: Allow tenths of a pound to be removed from a qualified weigh in. Good, we should not demand kids 15-18 years old have to manage their weight to the tenth of a pound. No decision was made on these proposals but will be considered and voted upon at the June 25, 2021 meeting.

We hated to miss it. I was over in Ohio moving a couple former state champs into their new house. The peanut butter and jellies were fueling the move. Thank you to the ISWA for streaming!!!

  12. Asa Garcia will be the Guest Clinician at avon's RTC Monday 5/10. Asa is a 4x placer and 3x State champ with a career record of 162-12. As a Redshirt Freshman Asa posted a record of 20-6 and this past year saw time in the varsity line-up for the Hoosiers. He has a great practice planned for everyone Monday! Don't miss out as we train towards Central Regionals!

  15. Looks interesting, might have to put it on a map to look at it clearer. I do enjoy how everyone wants to make their case to come to Fort Wayne. It must be the best semi-state if everyone wants to figure out a way to get there.

  16. Why is everyone putting Nick at 149. He’s the 141# NCAA Champion. Never wrestled 149, never will.

  17. Yes I know first hand..In 01-02 we wrestled that squad with all those studs and they beat us 66-3 at Team state when we placed 5th ..We were far from a slouch with 5 state qualifiers and 10 SSQ.. I ws lucky enough to have Mauer in the Dual.. That is still the record for the worst loss at team state.. and yes they were the best team I've ever seen hands down bar none.
