So we would need to seed the 7th in someway and they are the alternate. Which I think should be easy enough. There is a rule that determines which wrestler goes into the 6th seed if there is a seeded wrestler that is replaced with a forfeit. So no need to determine who the 7th seed would have been. I know it’s frustrating how a kid with an 0-1 record gets the 6 seed but sure it will only help him survive one more week.
buttler73
A few random thoughts. At the coaches meeting/Seeding on Wednesday, List all possible alternates that will attempt to make a weight for sectionals if the 1st wrestler fails to be able to go under any circumstance. If their name is not brought up Wednesday no alternative for that weight period. On Friday night when it is "Announced" their will be a different wrestler or Saturday morning, there should be a reseed involving all coaches except the team that made the change. There is already a coaches meeting Saturday morning. Coaches typically know who should be in certain weights at sectional. This should take no time specifically since there is no coach for the "replacement to participate in the reseed. This takes any certainty of getting a favorable match up away. And leaves it to the fate of the other coaches as far as seeding goes. I am sure this is flawed in many ways. But find a way to make the certainty uncertain and possibly worse for the flip flop. ontherise219
The sectional Quarter finals where all of that hard work coaches put in the seeding meeting gets lost. Lost of 5’s and 6’s in the semis buttler73 and Justin Ratliff
Cmoney125
Or just seed all 8 wrestlers and if you replace your kid, you become the 8 seed. Seems like that would solve most of the problem. bomber_bob

You could just make the rule that the randomly drawn kid in the 7 slot moves to the 6, the 8 slot moves to the 7, and the substitute takes the 8 slot. Actually per the bracket guidelines after figuring out the seeds you place the "7" seeded wrestler then the "8" seeded wrestler then fill in the pig/rat tails. All the better...it's already done that way. So just use the same procedures as now, but move replacements into the 8 slot and bump everyone else up. Not sure how you present this to the IHSAA without focusing on the fact that it's meant to combat shenanigans.
