1st ROUND PAIRINGS

#1) Franklin vs. Lake Station

#8) Southmont vs. Lawrence North

#5) Portage vs. Hanover Central

#4) Mishawaka vs. Valparaiso

#3) Crown Point vs. Calumet

#6) Lowell vs. Floyd Central

#7) Westfield vs. South Bend Riley

#2) Cathedral vs. Munster

Factors taken into consideration in seeding/pairings were:

1)  The most recent IHSWCA and Indiana Mat Team Rankings.

2)  Early results from the 2013-14 season, thus far, as reported on Indiana Mat and in local media outlets available online.

3)  Avoidance of 1st Round rematches from last year with an effort to keep Conference, Sectional & Regional rivals apart for round #1.

Tough draw for Valparaiso. They wrestled on the main floor last year and returned a lot of guys from that team. They have looked pretty good this year. I don't think they are Mishawaka good but you never know.  Hard to believe they fell that far to wrestle a #4 seed but there are some good teams here so not to big of a surprise.

I am also interested in seeing Hanover wrestle they looked tough at the Harvest. All around should be a fun day of wrestling

LN right now is a very young team. 7 Soph. 4 Juniors, 3 Seniors in the lineup. Forfeiting 106/120 currently. We are a very Jekyll/Hyde team. We have lost 3 matches that have come down to the last match and Carmel came down to the last match as well. Forfeits are hurting us. Pretty competititive the rest of the way. Our 126 is out with injury this weekend, so we will be going with a JV kid there. Should be a pretty good tournament team over the next couple of years. There have been a series of unfortunatel events that have not helped us.. Our Soph. 106 moved to PH the first week of the season, leaving us stranded there without.. Our Junior 120 had suffered his last concussion/neck injury and isn't allowed to compete, and our ranked 145/152 no longer attends LN or any Indiana school for that matter. We could fill 120 but choose not to due to the lack of experience. If you know any 106lbs looking for a good home, send them to LN!

Since Lowell is out (replaced by River Forest) and Coach Wadkins is re-drawing the tournament, I'm guessing he'll just move Westfield to #6 and Southmont to #7 since there are no conference/sectional/regional considerations effected.  The question then becomes, who will be the #8?  It seems like LN, Hanover C., Floyd C., Valpo, or SB Riley would all be considered.  I'll take a stab and guess Valpo moves over and River Forest takes their vacated spot.  This would not have "area" implications and it would balance the bracket by not forcing Valpo or HC (perhaps the 8th and 9th best teams) into the 13-16 gym for the final three matches.
