EvansvilleSpectator
What are the chances that they get put back to normal after this season? or maybe at least changed a little bit? If so what would they need to be?

EvansvilleSpectator
I think they are alright, but there seems to be just too much kids in the middle weights and not enough at the upper's.
VikingWarrior
coaches were given survey form from the IHSAA, I believe this was one question on the form
1oldwrestler
No chance. Really? In all honesty I have heard just the opposite (mainly from coaches). In your opinion, why is there "no chance?"
Short Jay
Coaches are not the ones making those decisions. The powers that be make those decisions based on the weight management program not the survey.
Coach Hartman
The survey that is being presented at the sectionals is from the IHSWCA and not the IHSAA. I like the idea of the old weight classes with the addition of 182 and 195 from the new classes. Making it 15 weight classes. Wouldn't have to go to the 8th criteria when breaking a tie in a dual meet. 103-112-119-125-130-135-140-145-152-160-170-182-195-220-285= 15 weight classes (why not) Love this idea! As long as they dont make it like middle school and have 100 weight classes ;D it wouldnt bother me to add just 1 class.
tskin
I would like the idea because it just seems this year i have got so many kids log jammed in at 32 and 38.
Jimtown 138
This is something that I put a lot of thought into and think this weight class system could be the thing of the future- 98 105 112 119 126 132 138 145 155 167 177 185 Heavy
phscoach
I like the idea, but for a different reason than Skinner. I struggle to fill the lower weights, but with 170, 182, and 195 I can wrestle one more of my bigger guys, which I always have more of. That's why, albeit maybe selfishly, I like the current weights. But, after talking with several other coaches, it seems there are a lot of teams that are the opposite and could use that lower spot to give good wrestlers the opportunity to compete. It's a best of both worlds while eliminating the even number of matches.

I see no more than a 10lbs seperation anywhere else but it's ok to let anyone over 185lbs to wrestle that 285lbs guy? ???

The weights he has listed are the actual weights they used to wrestle. He's joking about it being a "thing of the future" because they are actually the weights of the past. Under the old system, everybody over 185 was in the heavyweight division, and there was no limit to how big you could be.

MatChick76
I like some aspects of the old weights and some aspects of the new...I know...you can't make everyone happy...lol! I do wish they hadn't eliminated a middle weight, it feels like we have 10 kids btwn 132-160 and not nearly enough big guys. Although I like the few pounds added at the lower weights. I was recently talking to a 120 lb wrestler from another school and he said, "Man, I'm so glad it's 120 this year...that one pound (119) might have killed me." So, for those lightweight guys, I'm happy. I think 98 (which is from way back), is way to small anymore.
