Ashton has decided to forgo his junior year of wrestling in order to proceed with ACL replacement surgery.  He injured his knee training for the upcoming season approximately 1 month ago. After consulting with an orthopedic surgeon, his initial thought was to wrestle the season with a brace and have surgery following the high school season.  However, due to the severity of his pain, the lack of mobility on his feet and the risk of more damage to his knee, he has elected to move forward with the surgery as soon as possible.  Ashton was a SSQ last year and had his eyes on Conseco for this season.  However as circumstances arise, his dreams and goals will be put off for a year.  Ashton wishes his many friends across the Indiana wrestling community good luck on the season and hopes all of you have great seasons and reach your goals.  Ashton looks forward to competing with many of you in the future.

I'm glad he is at least able to get this taken care of this season, so he can be back for a good senior year.  Good luck on the recovery process.  I'm sure I'll have several chances to talk with you guys about how things are progressing over the course of the season.

Our Heart goes out to Ashton and his family.  Our hope is his imminent surgery goes well and he has a complete and full recovery.  We have always thought Ashton is a great competitor and sportsman.

After Dalton's season ending vertabrae fracture last season and an additional Heart Surgery in the spring, our faith in the wrestling community was evident.

Sadly, this will be a long season for Ashton, and hope the fire burns for him to acheive his goals after his recovery.

We know how dissappointing it is to have to miss something you love so much.  Last year our son had his appendix removed right after the sectional championships.  It is difficult to keep your head right but Ashton is a tough young man we will look forward to seeing him compeat in the near future. Keep your head up young man you still have another year to make your mark.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ashton's surgery was a success and his range of motion in the surgically repaired knee is 140 degrees (basically back to normal) after 10 days of rehab.  He reached his 6 week goal after 10 days.  The staples have been removed from the knee but still has a little too much swelling.  His goal is to return to the mat by freestyle season and if all goes well an outside chance to be back by folkstyle state.

Thanks to all for the kind words for Ashton.  He should be able to start travelling with the team soon and wishes all good luck on the season.
