Al Smith Invite

To bad Northridge isn't back.  There are not in conference, and they have a few kids who have historically been very competitive.  They do wrestle Mishawaka at a Super Dual in Plymouth.  I still think they would raise the level of competition more than some teams.  Some of the southern teams looking for good competition from the north might appreciate that chance to meet teams like Northridge.

I think one can make a very good argument that the Al Smith is "THE" premiere individual tournament of the year.  7 out of the Top 20 teams are in the tournament. (That is 35% of the Top 20...this is for you Y2  8) )  Several ranked individuals at various weight classes, year in and year out.  Coach Wadkins' great point of watching a returning state champ wrestle for 5th Place.  The fact that their has only been ONE 4x Champ. (Kinda of ironic also that the only 4 timer was never a 1x State Champ)  I have been absent the last few years, but have been trying to make an effort to catch at least Day 2 of the wrestling.  Looking forward to making it this year, very good matches appear to be upcoming.

Does anyone know for certain where the light weights and where the heavies will be wrestling on day 1?  The last time I went to day one the big boys were in the wrestling gym and the wee ones were in the basketball gym.

yep thats it

Big guys (152 - 285) in new gym with 4 mats and little guys (103 - 145) in old gym with 6 mats.

i think its only 5 mats in the old gym

they could fit 6 but they leave that huge space open for the main table

You might be right on 5 mats  instead of 6.  I'm going on what someone told me at the school today.

Awood2  there was an artical in the South Bend Tribune on three of the kids from Northridge on Saturday and one in Fridays Elkart Truth on Ross Powell from Northridge.  I agree it would be great to se these kids competing at Al Smith

Why isn't Mishawaka's  Taylor Wislor  or Lyman Stoner listed at 103.   Is there a new varsity 103lbr.

Stoneburner went 12 at a jv tournament on saturday

i dont know what happened to wisler but the kid wrestling for him, scott fozo, isnt the new varsity kid
