While i was still coaching at Hammond Gavit we had 2 State qualifiers back-to-back 2018 & 2019 Jamari Washington & Jaymiere Johnson both black wrestlers 2 of the best kids we ever coached, Jamari graduated from Wabash College and Jaymiere is attending Calumet College Of St Joes graduating this year i believe.

Also not fair for a wrestler to prepare all week for one opponent and then find out Saturday morning they have someone different.

The semi state alternate rule needs to be changed. The guy who lost to the champ 1st rd of regionals who was probably a sectional 4 gets pulled back. We can do better 

Should probably go with a collared shirt for an event like this.

How about Leo’s 126, freshman, Nolan Butcher. Pinned Bellmont’s Will Franze, beat ranked Dekalb’s Drew Waldron 2-1 in the semis then turns around and beats ranked Jason Prough 8-7 in the finals to be NE8 conference champ as a freshman at 126. Have yourself a day kid!

Coming from someone who coaches both sports, there is no better off-season training for football than wrestling.  I encourage my athletes to compete in anything in the off-season.  On the other hand, I have also seen wrestling coaches encourage their wrestlers to not play other sports and specialize in wrestling.  The life lessons learned through the sport of wrestling, can not be matched.  Self-discipline, sacrifice, work-ethic, humility, teamwork, and courage are not only going to make you a better athlete, they are more importantly, going to make you a better person and that should be the ultimate goal for all of us.  My answer to my football players that say they aren't going to wrestle because they are going to hit the weights is, "Weights don't hit back".

Will Earls of former Hammond Gavit tragically passed away yesterday in a Car crash he was a senior this year and was attending Munster please send prayers to his family.

Very sorry to hear this news a few days ago😞.  Seemed like Will was part of the Chesterton Team during the offseason - hanging with our group of Seniors that graduated this year @ many tournaments.  He was a pleasure to be around and will definitely be remembered.  Chesterton Wrestling sends Prayers to his family. 

This sucks to hear... A kid gone too soon. Heck of a competitor too, didn't know him, but had to coach against him. Prayers to his family and those close to him from the Cascade Wrestling family!

One of our fellow Rats has hit a bump in the road.Steve Marks former Hammond Wildcat wrasler and current Highland Coach has had some complication from COVID. Keep the fellow Rat in your thoughts and prayers. He is one tough man and Im sure he will recover. Ain't notting stronger dan a bunch of wrestlers saying a prayer for a brother.
