  1. In cross country the top 12 get medals. 7 for the runners and 5 for the alternates for the top 5 runners. To quickly look at the math there are 10 teams in the IHSAA football championships and 75 medals to each team. Thats 750 medals for football (375 for runner ups) and wrestling received 5 for their runner ups? At 5 dollars a piece they would be spending 3750 dollars on football medals and unable to spend (14 medals) 70 dollars on wrestling medals. To quote John Boehner "We have a spending issue, not a revenue issue"
  2. I will have to go with Seth Riley of Fishers. He came into the tourny with 8 losses, and came in to the tourny as a 4th seed. He was unranked (in the top 20), and did not even win his conference this year. He took 6th in sectional as a frosh, did not wrestle his soph year, and lost 1st round of semi state as a junior. Seth had to wrestle the previous 7th placer friday and pinned him. Wrestled the previous runner up in the semi finals and was winning by 4 before getting pinned. Seth I am proud of you, you're a stud and will do great at Grand Valley State. Coach Farrell
  3. Galka won it his freshman year at 103 get your facts straight
  4. Well this could be the one event that brings nations like Iran, Russia, and America all together to fight for a common thread. I recently returned from Greece, and it is obvious that wrestling has a prestigious past in the Olympics, but its all about the money. It's survival of the fittest, we need to make a come back.
  5. "I felt I did my best the last two years," Berry said. "I didn't win a state championship, but (wrestling) made me a better man." what an awesome last quote
  6. Cosgrove- off the top of my head I know the 03-04 Griffith team had 4 champs, that combined to win by 14pts in 3 matches and 1 pin in the finals
  7. I have never been coached by him, but I feel like Royce Deckard's name has to be in this. He is the man behind LN's success and is an absolute wrestling technician. From my experience of coaches I would say Coach P is the best, the way he is able to incorporate life outside of wrestling into the room, mixed with his unparalleled ability to converse and relate to guys... what he has is something special
  8. i agree, that is inexcusable, when a 14/15 year old fails to achieve extraordinary standards set by anonymous "critics" online. My motto is if you can't win all four leave your shoes at the door.
  9. This wasn't from a coach, but I will never forget at the northmont regional. Our 189 (fishers) was wrestling northmont in the finals, and a northmont Dad just yelled out "Don't let d'em city boys beat you!"
  10. I feel like it could very competitive and close from top to bottom, but in no way can you call it the deepest as far as talent. After looking at the individual rankings it is tied for the weight class with the least number of state qualifiers (4 tied with 113) and tied for the least number of previous placers (1 tied with 113) * 113 has one guy who has made it to the finals. Judging by that criteria one could make the argument its the weakest weight class.
  11. I saw that he did not wrestle in the Al Smith and I have heard rumors of him being hurt anyone have a status update on him?
  12. -Do you think he will beat sliga, Berry, Raypole or Baker?
  13. Ked- If it was a lot closer than the score says can you tell me what points should Delong have scored? Where there any shots he was in deep on or any times where he should have got a turn? From a spectators point of view it looked like Delong could easily been hit with some stalling calls. I don't want to take anything from Delong he did what he needed to do to keep it close, but returning someone to the mat really well doesn't score you any points.... as for the crowd going wild well isn't the home crowd going to cheer against the guy who beat their stud 8 times last year?
  14. Weimer, I am nominating you as the leader of the Indiana Mat book club.
  15. what was the point for?
  16. what happenend in the sliga match? I saw he lost 4-2.
  17. To make a great team I think it comes down to two things: money and coaches Hamilton Southeastern is a great example: four years ago they had 3-4 coaches and saw moderate success, nothing that was any different from previous years. This year they have 6-8 coaches including Jordin Humphrey, in their room. Money also plays a huge role: many kids these days have summer jobs, and other responsibilities to attend to at home. When kids have the financial resources to reduce time spent outside school supporting themselves they can spend more time on the mat during the summer and spring. I think HSE has done a tremendous job at turning their program around and to quote the previous statement " You have to recruit to be top 8 in indiana" that could not be farther from the truth. The beauty of that program is that one can see the evolution of the unathletic wrestlers into sectional and regional champions. At the end of the day though it comes down to the wrestlers on the mat. If the kids don't have the will to win then you won't see any success no matter how much money or coaches you have. There is a reason places like Anderson Highland have had 4 state championships in the past couple of years even though they do not have either of the previously mentioned resources.
  18. the only thing more shocking than the article was how bad this kid was for a potential 2x city champion
  19. ok i know i am a little biased but i feel like the match was extremely close and really could have gone either way. Sliga was deep on a shot and almost had stevenson taken down in the first then it went to a scramble where stevenson was actually pinned for a couple of seconds. Somehow eventually stevenson landed on top and had sliga on his back. After the first period stevnson was up 5-0 and knew he didnt have to anything the rest of the match. For the last four minutes of the match sliga near had 2 takedowns, but stevenson just wrestled a very defensive match. Stevenson took one half shot the whole match but mainly just was content with sitting on the lead from the first perioid and not doing anything else. Then somehow in the second period stevenson got another point for sliga fleeing the mat which was one of the most questionable calls of the day... but congrats to stevenson for the great career i wish him the best of luck at U of I.
  20. do ya feel it... I got KIEFFER FEVER ...at 125, but I think Jackson is going to take 135
  21. BRING BACK THE ORGAN AT STATE!
  22. CIA is in my mind the best place to go
  23. Im not sure if it was for wrestling, but i know that Stevenson is turning roughly 4 years older than sliga and will be turning twenty this summer
  24. After watching the ncaa finals last night does anyone feel like the commentators are picking on Barry Davis the coach of Wisconsin while he is coaching in the finals. I thought it was quite funny to watch but could not believe how persistant the guy was who was interview the coach during his wrestlers (Howe) championship match. Could you imagine if Tony Dungy was being interviewed during a 4th and one situation about how he felt it would go during the play?!?! Does anyone know where one can find video of last night's matches and hopefully the hilarious interview with Coach Davis?
