We are selling our heavyweight mats. We have three full mats with three sections. Competition markings on one side and practice circles on the other. They are in fairly good shape. $750 a section or $2000 for a full mat. You'd have to come pick them up on the Eastside of Indianapolis. Contact me at 317-372-2992 or joneill@warren.k12.in if you are interested.

Here's the link to registration. 2 people per participant allowed, this number includes coaches and siblings. Obviously, they are being strict with numbers and the mask mandate. Let me know if you have any questions.

Middle School weights are different across the state, the middle school seasons are different across the state too. The IHWCA has actually developed a committee to help pull middle school wrestling together as a state to help improve it as a whole. The IHSWCA Middle School State Tournament could be a good model for this. We felt that the weight classes for Heartland Duals didn't reflect what would be ideal, we felt that there weren't enough weight classes. So we went from 17 to 22 weight classes. Then we wanted to model the age group with the IHSAA age group, so you can't be 16 before the tournament (just like you can't be 20 before the IHSAA tournament), and we added 5th graders (as many middle schools across the state include 5th graders). We may end up taking the Heartland Duals qualifying portion away from the tournament, we may just use it as criteria. This was a miscommunication between the IHSWCA and the ISWA, I'll take the blame for this and I apologize the confusion it may cause. All the decision we make are to create opportunities for our wrestlers and to improve Indiana wrestling. Here's the link to the MS State Tournament, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Coaches,I'm excited to get everyone back together again! En lieu of schools not quite being ready to open up to us, we've moved our clinic to the Marriott Indianapolis East. We're planning on a way to have the social here as well. I love the idea of having everything in the same spot. Danny Struck, as always, did a fantastic job at putting together a line up of solid clinicians. We are also wanting to work in breakout sessions again to pull together resources and ideas to improve some important areas of our sport. Be part of the change!Since we are having the clinic in a conference center this year, we've had to shell out a couple more bucks for it. It benefits the IHSWCA if you book a room at the Marriott. If you would, take that into consideration when booking a place to stay. Flyer, clinic registration, and hotel reservation links are all below. Don't hesitate to reach out to me with questions, comments, or concerns.

Two options to get out a couple hours earlier (as the day is too long).
A. Get 6 more mats so the 1st thru 4th teams don't have a second bye.
B. Pool losers go home so the 1st thru 4th teams don't have a second bye.
In my opinion, 8 teams are not enough and 16 are too many. 12 teams is perfect. Just eliminate the 2nd bye.
You're in tune here, these have been our discussions exactly.

In my opinion I enjoy the bye. It gives our guys a chance to recover, nap and eat. We have them leave the area and sit in the lobby and usually take them outside to get some fresh air during the bye. Even though we don’t pull into the school until 1 am I think the byes help keep guys excited, energized and “fresh”. It can be rough to have an emotional win or lose and turn around and wrestle again. Either way it is a great event with some fantastic wrestling. Thanks to those who run it and put it together!
According to the discussions that we've had, the 3A class system and 12 teams per class are the magic numbers. 2 classes isn't enough and 4 is too many, 16 teams is too many and 8 isn't enough. That being said, the bye in the pool play probably can't be eliminated, but the bye during the placement rounds can be eliminated.

Did anybody ever consider Lambert fieldhouse at Purdue? It seats 7500. It had a full indoor track in it, so you probably could 12 mats In there. Plenty of parking.
Yep, I remember we had the Great Lakes Festival in that fieldhouse back in the day. I was there not too long ago visiting Purdue's practice, lots of upgrades to it. It looks as if some permanent track and field equipment have been added. Long jump pit, pole vault pit, high jump pit, even throwing rings. I know Ersland and Purdue's staff would work with us on it, but is it the centralized location we're looking for?

Can you briefly describe the challenges with Grand Park?
Seating, locker rooms, and cost. Seating is limited, we are looking into renting bleachers, but that just adds to an already pricey venue. The locker room situation isn't ideal, but supposedly they are are adding more locker rooms to the venue before then. I'll keep everyone posted, willing to be as transparent as possible. As to promoting the event, I thought this website did a great job promoting and communicating info for it. We have a IHSWCA Facebook page that cranks out promotions and info. We don't have a Twitter, but should and will soon. Again, opinions, advice and suggestions are welcome.

The IHSWCA is working on ways to make this event more efficient for everyone. Grand Park will make it more centralized and allow for more mats, which could solve the down time. Grand Park also presents more challenges for us though, which we are currently working on solutions. Opinions, advice and input are welcome.

I had the same issue with my 126 last year. The coach's association proposed to change the rule to qualifying at a weight class instead of a specific weight last year and it never got approved by the IHSAA board. I will do everything in my power to influence the IHSAA to change this next year. When this was proposed last spring, Mr. Faulkens was not against the change, I assumed it would be passed.
I recommend that you contact Mr. Faulkens and make him aware of the situation. I'm willing to bet he'll work with you. He's very aware of the issue here.

Is this an IHSAA sanctioned event? Varsity or JV?

Refs can contact Bart Welch or Jim Littlejohn if they are interested in working the event. JB, you're going to make a fantastic official!

Weight classes will be the same. Obviously, this was an attempt to find a facility that is centralized and can host enough full surfaces for it to be completed in a reasonable amount of time. The date change had two ideas behind it. One was to see if this weekend would allow for more wrestlers, families, coaches to attend because we felt that semi state weekend had everyone spread out all in four corners of the state. The other was to see how the weekend would work if we were to attempt a qualifying series for the tournament. If we were to go to qualifiers, they will eventually be held on Sectional weekend and we'd move the finals back to semi state weekend. I think changing the venue and the date will allow for the tournament to grow a little and accomplish our goal of finishing in a reasonable amount of time. If not, we'll continue our discussions for implementing qualifiers.

A few changes for Cadets; Cottey is going down to 94, Peele is moving up to 126, and Longere is wrestling FS. Weigh ins are tonight at 6pm, first time we've had weigh ins the night before. And, remember, no trackwrestling at Fargo this year, all the action can be caught on FloArena.

What would it take to implement/adopt freestyle rules? That may be a loaded question, or just too big to answer without writing a book. Would it revolutionize our sport in this country, or kill it? I know, it's crazy. Is it any crazier than the fact that we are the only country in the world that wrestle folkstyle? The change would be deep, and nobody wants to even begin to think of how much would need to be changed, especially those that are making money or to those in which it would cost money (powers that be). Rules like the NCAA out of bounds rule and riding time are contrasting freestyle rules even more. It definitely meets criteria for 3 of the 4 points that Coach Cloud brought up. I know it may never happen, and a far cry from subtle rule changes in 2018, but I just thought I'd throw it out there.
