Greg Ratliff got a reaction from Y2CJ41 in Team State 2023
Date is locked in for Jan 7th 2023. Still making decisions on locations. But the truth is that finding all one location centralized has been tricky. So that may be off the table currently.
Best case scenario, 2 locations and 2 classes per state. But that's still being solved. We have been very lucky to have such great hosts the last 2 years and they could potentially be utilized again.

Greg Ratliff reacted to maligned in Final Team State Qualification Leaderboards 2022
I'll be posting the final leaderboards in separate posts shortly.
There was no change to who qualified for Team State after we made several last-minute classification changes based on newly released IHSAA numbers.

Thank you for all the time you put in to figuring this out. I can't imagine how time consuming it is.

I actually have a real job to do! I'm talking to the guy in the truck that is doing the scoreboard. Since some aren't wrestling people it's good to have someone with a little wrestling knowledge there helping them. Also, we are the eyes and ears for things like challenges and anything else going on at the mat.
This year I helped a couple other Indiana guys get jobs with ESPN. This was actually my 12 one working in the past 15 years.

Greg Ratliff reacted to Y2CJ41 in I am sharing this. Please take a moment and read this.
Couple things to address about the announcers.
First, the Bally(formerly Fox) broadcast Greg Rakeshaw does wrestling once a year. Knowing the collegiate wrestling scene is not in his wheelhouse. Obviously someone with knowledge corrected him with the Missouri thing. While the coverage is not the Big Ten student produced event, it is not an ESPN event either. They do a great job with the production and let the wrestling people do their jobs, which is what they should. Blake and coach Goebel do awesome for people who do it once a year. The others are fillers and know just enough to keep things going. I'm sure the other state finals events have just as many mistakes.
The matside announcers are not professionals at all. Having someone talking is way better than not having someone there or listening to what the table workers ate for breakfast. It's a long day sitting there, talking to yourself and trying to stay engaged. As with any of us, there will be mistakes made and since they are not professionals they will say things we don't agree with. If you are picking out a few things here and there out of 10 hours of sitting on the mic, I think they are doing great. Do you always agree with what a commentator says on an NFL or NBA broadcast, NO. It shouldn't be any different now.
If you want professionals on the call you will need to pay the money to have them there. I'm sure Flo would send a whole crew for the right price or you might be able to clone Mike, which might be cheaper...but scarier.

Sean McMurray (Portage) and Anthony Quiroz (Chesterton) competed in the Conference, Sectional, Regional, Semi-State, and State finals in 2009.
I got to talk about this while inducting Sean into the Hall of Fame Sunday.

Greg Ratliff reacted to KoontzDaddy in Is Jesse the best ever?
Best ever. We can talk about excluding outside wrestling, but how do you do that? What he has done as a high school wrestler both in the state and out of state is beyond what any other Indiana wrestler has ever done, or could've done. He almost won U23 Nationals as a freakin' 17-year-old!!! I'm not saying he'll be better than Nick Lee is now, but as a high schooler he is unmatched by any other Indiana high schooler... Ever.

Greg Ratliff reacted to Coach Mikesell in Indiana vs Illinois All-Star Duals
The top two senior guys will be invited to wrestle for team Indiana for the 28th annual Indiana vs Illinois dual meet. This year the dual will be held at Mooresville High School on March 20th at 1pm.
We are wanting to include a girls team. There are a couple different events going on for girls that weekend so we will have some spots open, if you placed at girls state and are a senior and have interest please email me with name, weight and contact information so I can get you on the list and we can get our team put together. We will take the top senior place winners in each weight.
Both boys and girls will get a 7lb allowance.

Greg Ratliff got a reaction from KoontzDaddy in Wristbands Instead of Lanyards-Am I the Only One?
No there was never a survey sent out. That is being discussed as we speak.
I can't speak with other people's direct conversations, but I do not know where the "the coaches wanted that" came from.
I do think that the idea of being open to having Gainbridge all day Friday meant the possibility of expanding the tournament down the road. But I am not sure specifically where "the coaches wanted that" came from.

Don't know if anyone mentioned it, but we got our state's 2nd and 3rd girl state qualifiers in history, as expected. O'Campo with a fall and a major. Crull with a fall and a dominant decision. Great job, ladies!

Holy Crap, Jared Dunn does it again!! He was down 11-0 to Seth Cowden, took neutral and hit the headlock for the fall! Jared Dunn of Princeton is a State Qualifier! 2 nasty headlocks to get him there.

Greg Ratliff reacted to ColdSkifan in Most Unexpected State Title Run
I'm not certain on the powder blue singlets. If I have my calendar years right, the night of the 2003 finals was a pretty bad winter ice/snow storm and I didn't get to attend. I actually started the trek over to Indy from Dayton that afternoon to see the finals, but then had to turn back around before it really got bad. Mother Nature...
Sure would liked to have watched MD's run of four in a row that night though, in addition to the Pribble match. I can only imagine that he would have had a lot of the crowd behind him being from such a small school.
As for what he's doing now, assuming this website is current, he's a chiropractor in Bloomington. Nice bio of him here. I go to a chiropractor myself and am thankful for the work they do and relief they can provide.
